My missus and her sister watched the live action Beauty and the Beast the other day, and spent a good 15 minutes arguing about how quick Belle had got her horse and how had the horse got there in the first place etc.
Y'know, in the film with enchanted singing tableware (although ennobling it as singing is generous in Ewan McGregor's case) and an 8-foot talking beast etc etc.

The thing is, if you’re engaged and the film is good your brain has better things to do.
Like Spielberg movies are riddled with continuity errors and general goofs but nobody cares. Like the first scene in jaws has a continuity error in virtually every shot. Pretty much every cut has different lighting to the one before it but nobody notices because it’s amazing.
You will now, though. You can’t unsee it.

You will now, though. You can’t unsee it. I managed to absolutely ruin Muse for someone by highlighting Matt Bellamy's intakes of breath on every line, and now it's all he can hear when he listens to them.

Muse are that abnd that I genuinely can't understand how anyone could like. Absolutely awful.

Thinking is overrated anyway. If I start thinking too much I might realise that I'm fast approaching 50, have already had one heart attack, have no friends and am stuck in a dead end job with no prospects beyond a regular paycheck until my inevitable death. Leaving Las Vegas is the film for you :-)

I think I discovered where my intense hatred for muse comes from, I suffer badly with Misophonia and hearing that breathing has made me want to kill him and his whole family.

Redemption
I generally enjoy watching Statham in action, and this remained the case, but despite having a few good scraps it strayed (almost) into serious film territory. And I enjoyed it more for that - don't get me wrong, it won't win awards, but it mostly worked. Decent film all round.
7/10

Porno - 6.5/10 Entertaining enough horror comedy about sexually repressed Christian teens in the 90s who unwittingly release a succubus at the cinema. I haven't turned away in horror at a film in years but the exploded nutsack tourniquet certainly managed it this time.

Alien Covenant
As before, there’s a half decent functional Alien movie in this film but its crowded out by having to include a Promotheus sequel alongside it.
If nothing else it looks great.

If nothing else it looks great. 4/10 I would have respected it more if it had *more* Prometheus ties in it. Instead of having confidence in the thing they had made before, it felt like they'd panicked and said "well fuck, everyone hated it so... it's a new planet, there's no Engineer things, the woman from the first movie died and let's never mention that again". (disclaimer: I actually kinda liked Prometheus, despite the dumb stuff in it)

The Empty Man
8/10
Great horror film which straddles a few sub genres - best to go in without spoilers either as it er goes places. Worth watching the first 20 mins “prologue” alone as it’s almost a self contained film which sets up the mythology and will tell you if it’s for you or not. Deserved better than being dumped out to the cinema in 2020. Currently on Disney+ of all places!

I watched Jurassic Park on monday and cant help but stare at the wandering robot arm in the raptor egg scene now. Took quite a few watches for it to kick in, though.

If you give Hellraiser 2 a 6, you're not leaving yourself much to work with for the rest of the series That rather assumes I have any intention of watching any of the direct to video sequels.

Reanimator
Golly Barbara Crampton had some amazing... personality. I have never been so jealous of a severed head before. Jeffery Coombs hamming it up, ridiculous schlock and just fun.
Did I mention Barbara Crampton?

Goodfellas
Never seen it before. I saw the late scene in Casino when I was about 9 and it put me off of gangster flicks for a long long long time, wasn't equipped for that sort of violence.
Brilliant throughout. Appreciated that fourth wall camera monologue at the very end, which foreshadowed Scorcese's later work (esp Wolf of Wall St).
9/10. Not a 10 because what is?
