Dead Sushi: Im just watching 'we think you might like' movies on amazon prime at the moment as it, sadly, seems to know me quite well.
Basically, The Evil Dead but instead of deadites, its sushi. Sushi becomes evil and tries to kill everyone in a shitty spar resort and only the beautiful sushi chef can save us.
Actually quite funny. The sushi chef befriends an egg sushi as the evil sushi bully it for not having fish.
7/10 (its probably more like a six but I did enjoy it)

Watched Fear Street part 3 (Netflix) earlier this week, it was ok, same (lack of) quality as the other two. More glad it’s over than anything, not completely worth the time investment 5 out of 10
Yesterday I saw Free Guy at the cinema. Possibly the most videogame-y movie ever made. I can definitely see the comparison with The Lego Movie, Truman Show too. I really enjoyed it, the supporting cast was good, it was funny and warm hearted. I’d even say that some of the people that made it “got” gaming culture as there a few in jokes there. Possibly a little generous but 8 out of 10

Fear Street 1978.
At least the tunes were time appropriate.
I did enjoy it more than the first one though. Part 3 tonight.

The Big Lebowski.
Going against popular opinion but I saw it at the flix and found it very dull.
Not The Cohen's best/10.

I'm on leave and how I spend my leave is parked up on the sofa watching Star Trek TMP and wondering what it must have been like to watch this on release in 70mm, it must have been majestic.
All the usual comments, but I have to underline just how fucking good Jerry Goldsmith's score to this is, with entr'acte and everything. The re-introduction to the Enterprise, which people hated at the time, is absolutely beautiful. I don't care that the sequence goes on for fucking forever (Trumbull's model work is nothing to be sniffed at either, also considering how rushed it was). It's absolutely sublime. I would say it's the best thing he ever did, but he wrote so many other amazing scores it would be a disservice.

He did pretty well to dislodge TOS theme as the de facto 'this is star trek' music. They still use it as a sting to remind people what they are watching. Apparently, for TNG, they were tossing up whether or not to remix TOS theme or go with this shite www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzpeulsbv8o&t=42sBut ended up going with the Goldsmith Enterprise Porn Theme because it kicked so much ass.

Yeah, that's genero network 80s/90s TV action series muzak. It could be SeaQuest or anything (altho actually the SeaQuest theme slaps).

Regarding Lebowski, for shits and giggles I have been ordained by a random bloke on the internet as a Dudeist Priest. I also have a PHD in Rockology from the Abide University.

It doesn't sound like anyones sort of film.
If you enjoyed that though, you should definitely check out Rubber.

Censor 75/100
A film4 production (so low budget) horror film about a BBFC employee who goes off the rails. Nice and short at 84 minutes. Features a line I use with my wife from time to time "lets get you out of these wet clothes".

Bad Ass
I think I enjoyed this more than it deserved. Danny Trejo is generally worth watching, as is Ron Perlman, although he's barely in it. The story is ok and plods along, the fights are rubbish and show how old he is, but it just worked for me.
7/10

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Director's Cut) - 8/10Glad I decided to watch the DC too, it still has issues but it's much better than the theatrical cut. Shame there's no HD release of the DC, but apparently they've begun working on a 4k remaster.

When I saw the title I thought "I bet that was made by the Robogeisha guy". And it was. (you should watch Robogeisha, it's brilliant)

What’s with all the “I Am A…” usernames?
Anyway. I started watching The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf but turned it off. Remember how in The Witcher games and books they’d be bouncing off all the trees and firing Dragon Ball Z blasts from their hands? Me neither.
Something very off putting about the voice cast too. Perhaps anime isn’t the best way to present something based on a Polish series of books.

What’s with all the “I Am A…” usernames? Mods making good use of their powers. Seems to be the same idiot or two who keep reregistering and inevitably getting banned.

Cadaver
The premise is a bit silly and the characters going along with everything doesn't make much sense but I really enjoyed the visuals and atmosphere. There's points when it starts to feel surreal and dreamlike but then the story brings it back down. I do find myself thinking back to certain moments and scenes and wondering if there's someething deeper going on but the ending wraps everything up in a pretty mundane way. If they'd left things more vague, it would have been a much better film

The Green Knight 65/100
Stylish, beautifully shot. Think Midsommer levels of pretty shots with slow panning cameras, but darker and more medievel. 20 minutes too long.

DID YOU KNOW that the director of The Green Knight also directed EG-favourite A Ghost Story? You can tell from the scene where the green knight farts all over Gawain.

Mulholland Drive - 30/100
Kept watching waiting for a decent payoff until it ultimately just shit the bed. Some seem to really love this film but there’s far better ways to spend 2.5 hours than this.

I'm a fairly big Lynch fan, but my interest level in his last few films peters off quite severely. I don't mind Mulholland Drive but aside from a few good moments, it's a slog. Inland Empire really tested me.

I started watching Infinite last night and even though I’m only about 30 minutes in I just can’t be arsed. It starts with a po-faced explanation of the setup/exposition and then so far has done nothing but painfully drag it out and rehash it as if it didn’t just tell us what was up. It seems to have been fully made and then added a “stupid people won’t understand this” narration like Blade Runner or something.

Never Let Me Go
A fairly brisk version of the book, but it captured the mood well. Not sure why I did it to myself, but thought it was beautiful and bleak.
Recommended if you’re in the mood for a good cry.
