Hang on - The Ghost Story, A Ghost Story, or Ghost Story? A Ghost Story. Comment sneakily edited to correct the mistake.

Vivarium - Mark Zuckerberg and English Actress #37 get trapped in a magic housing estate. Its alright for a low budget... sci-fi? Thriller? Horror?... I dunno, but its fine. Its low budget so some of the effects looks pretty bad but I suppose that does add to the slightly otherworldly look to the estate.
The problem, really, is that the entire movie is set around two people in a weird yet kind of relatable situation so you are constantly putting yourself in their situation which makes it really hard to empathise and the central conceit revolves entirely around everyone always acting against their best interests. It also makes a few other jarring decisions to make its story work because its very on-the-nose as a metaphor for other things.
Starts off well, tails off pretty badly 5/10
PG: Psycho Goreman: Similar to the above, weirdly. The 'who are the real monsters here?' sub-plot almost makes it unwatchable. Its kind of funny, kind of stupid and Rich Evans has a cameo but the girl is *so* irritating its like nails down a chalk board.
They do nail the power rangers/sentai vibe, though. The monsters are really cool.
6/10
Hellraiser 2: Hellbound - My secret shame is that I do prefer this to Hellraiser (prefer, not think is better). Its just so gross and stupid. The monsters are cool, the effects veer from bad to genuinely disgusting and how they roped in the guy who plays Channard, a trained shakesperian actor, I will never know but he is an absolutely superb bad guy.
7/10
(yes, I have just got a shudder sub)

I noticed Possessor was on Shudder the other day, really good if you haven't watched it yet.

That’s one of few ‘home premiers’ I paid for last year. It’s pretty hardcore.

Never Let Me Go A fairly brisk version of the book, but it captured the mood well. Not sure why I did it to myself, but thought it was beautiful and bleak. Recommended if you’re in the mood for a good cry. Always am...

The Predator
There is nothing good about this film. It looks bad, the plot is a mess, it makes no sense in terms of series lore, the characters are dreadful, no one can act and its really boring.

The de-aging they did on Gary Busey is phenomenal, though.

Candyman
The new one. Just a bit meh really. Hard to give alot of insight as I just found it mediocre all round. The main guy is quite good I suppose? Just....meh.

Boss Level Frank Grillo should just stick with moody films. A Mish mash of loads of films not done very well. 5/10 sums up modern film, easy to make, instantly shot

Next-Door Nightmare
Creepy old woman tries to replace dead daughter with new neighbour. Quite enjoyable but they really skipped on an ending.
5/10.

Full Metal Jacket (first 45 mins). 10/10. So good. I'll watch the rest at some point but had an urge to watch Pile and the drill Sargent.

A Quiet Place part II - 8/10
Exactly what we were in the mood for. Nice and tense and doesn't overstay its welcome (feels like a 90ish minute runtime should be applauded in this day and age)
Must've missed something from the first film, though. Why don't they just walk on the grass?

Tucker and Dale vs Evil
Just as amusing as I remembered it. A fun take on the teen slasher format, that loses it's way a bit towards the end, but still most enjoyable.

Hobbs and Shaw - 6/10
Delivers exactly what was expected. 2 hours of entertainment to sit back, switch off and go along for the ride.

Willow
I first saw this when it was released in the cinema, and is still one of the few films I've watched more than once in the cinema. It's not a great film, but it's always a lot of fun to watch.
8/10

Godzilla (1998)
Its not Godzilla but on its own terms I think it still stands up as a solid late-90s action/disaster blockbuster. Surprised at how well a lot of the special effects hold up. I enjoyed this.
7.5/10

Tron Legacy - 5/10 Great look, effects (apart from Clu) and soundtrack. Rubbish story, terrible script and a wasted opportunity sadly.

Alien Covenant - WTF/10 Been a long time since i first watched this so had forgotten most of it. Has its moments but ends up being utter bobbins, why on earth would they try to recreate the end to Aliens in this! As with The Terminator they should just give up on this franchise for good, we got 2.5 good movies so let it die.

Kingsman - The secret service and Kingsman - The golden circle (Courtesy of Disney+) Both solid 8/10 mindless entertainment. It's James Bond meets Guy Ritchie meets John Woo with a dash of Deadpool. Me and my boys had a couple of real laugh out loud moments.

I enjoyed the first one a lot, albeit that it doesn't really stand up to lots of repeated viewings. But couldn't get beyond 20 mins of the 2nd, pure garbage imo.

A Quiet Place: 9/10 A Quiet Place Part II: 8/10 I like these a lot. Just pretty lean, fun monster movies with some tense jump scares. Really liked seeing the origin in the second movie, and while it's a bit weaker overall and has a very sudden ending I thought it added enough of interest to push it all forward. Not sure Part III is needed but we'll see.
Wrath of Man: 6/10 Didn't really feel like a Guy Richie movie. Completely unoriginal, but entertaining enough to fill the time.
Nobody: 8/10 Speaking of unoriginal... this is literally John Wick again if it occurred 20 years later in his life. It works for largely the same reasons, and Bob Odenkirk sells it brilliantly.
The Green Knight: ?/10 I'm really torn on this. I respect what it does a lot, and there's so much of it that I like on reflection. The acting, costuming, design, cinematography are all great, but I found it hard to get through and I don't think I really enjoyed watching it. Vikander's accent is also awful. Everything I like about it would be 9 but on entertainment value it'd be a 5, so 7/10 overall?

Saint Maud Calling it a horror film does it a disservice. I read it described as being a case of not knowing if what is happening is real or in her head but it seemed pretty obvious it wasn't real. Still a great film with the main role played really well. A bit towards the end did get a jump out of me and the final scene is... memorable. Loved it

Think Saint Maud is more of a chiller than horror. One to watch if you like things like Rosemary's Baby and other unsettling films.

I enjoyed this for 95% of the film but seeing Christopher Lloyd lumbering around shotgunning people at the end was just stupid. He was moving at 1mph. Also Rza was quite unconvincing in that action scene.
