I've just realised we're doing this in the fireworks thread. What the fuck? It's alright. No one can hear you over the ammo dump noise and combat zone house shaking. š

Certainly in some American circles at least, the term 'Oriental' is seen as improper itself.
I dislike fireworks intently these days. It's a narcissistic and selfish thing IMO.
The wee dog hates it. She must be busting for a pee by now but won't go out. Our daughter isn't keen either. She's taken it better this year by to her credit trying to look after the dog but during a particularly loud bit I found her hiding in bed a bit upset, albeit not crying which is progress on previous years.
There's some kind of trauma attributed to a Disneyland display where there was heat from pyrotechnics when she was very young. She's ten getting on for eleven so not all kids like them.
I can imagine a lot of ex services and refugees having a tough time too.

Anyone who's particularly noise sensitive can have real issues with them. Also, an anti-COVID march in London tonight and they were apparently letting them off in the crowds and throwing them at the Police, too, which could be incredibly dangerous. It's definitely time to revisit the pyrotechnics laws in this country.

It's a little alarming how close that article is in tone and language to some of the classic posts. Well, apart from the disclaimer at the end. Most users are a tad better than that. I like how they still frame it as āOrientalā.

I like how they still frame it as āOrientalā. It was as recent as 2016, but it was still the Sunday Sport, so I'm faintly surprised that they went as far as they did

Dog finally had a wee about ten minutes ago. Like a powerful horse. Poor wee mite. Finally stopped for now. Doubtless the local hooligans and hoodlums will set off odd ones through the night.

Big public displays run by professionals can be great. Selling boxes of explosives to every arsehole in Tesco's so they can let them off for days on end like they do round our way is fucking stupid The only sane answer.

I can imagine a lot of ex services and refugees having a tough time too. Yeah I work alongside two vets who suffer as the noise from fireworks triggers PTSD. One hides in his wardrobe and the other hits the booze and sleeps in the bathtub. I like fireworks at an organised event such as Alton Towers but otherwise I don't see the point anymore especially as a cat owner.

Explosives should not be available to a general public guilty of Brexit, voting in the current government, exponential transmission of a lethal disease, and this Relevant

I think my dogs have a different hearing spectrum, they ignore fireworks, but can hear a carrot being peeled while asleep 2 floors up.
Given the misery they cause some folk though, maybe just pro displays would be better. I do like them though.
My 17 yr old was shocked to learn that we used to play with them as kids. It's just the "neds" that do that now apparently. Was not impressed by my tales of a mortar team who would aim and fire rockets from a plastic drain pipe at girls who we fancied houses. Not sure why that didn't work.

Our cats don't seem to give a shit... We used to live by a fairly busy road, so I'm guessing they just got used to sudden loud noises. In a sleepy village now so I half expected them to get used to the quiet, but nope... They still don't even bat an eyelid thankfully.
Definitely think they should be kept to professionally organised events only.

Some of sound like people who move in next to a pub then try and have it closed down due to noise.
- You know fireworks will happen - You know cats and dogs arenāt keen on fireworks - You get cats and dogs anyway - Itās the fireworks fault?

Yeah, it is.
It's bullshit. "Fireworks happen, so you shouldn't get pets."
Fuck off.

I find it odd that in their desire to ban fireworks folks will point to the guys that very same society traumatized ,for the sake of shooting at foreign people to increase profits for corporations, as a reason why the other 99% of the population should be denied them.
āYeah, explosions make a few dudes who volunteered for the laying job of shooting foreign people to increase corporate profits freak out, so we need to ban fireworks.ā

Unless they are a veteran of World War 2 Iām not giving someone a massive amount of respect purely because they chose a job which allowed them to play with guns and tanks and kill human beings and mot only not get in trouble, but get a pay raise.
