Some of those on the MU-says-no list are a bit weird. I mean I'd say Slipknot count as metal these days. And I'd say djent is a sub genre of metal.
I do get their point about not allowing everything in, but the line the drawn is a bit odd.

Schaffer was not only present at the attempted insurrection but was charged with two offences relating to the incident and pleaded guilty, I think there was some plea deal so not sure how the sentencing ended up. I have to admit, I kinda liked some of the stuff he did with Hansi Kursch in the Demons and Wizards project they had. Didn’t Dee Snider call him a big pussy traitor because he took a plea deal and selling out your friends isn’t metal even if they are domestic terrorists?

Snider was mildly critical of Schaffers involvement in the failed insurrection, but he seems more annoys that Schaffer took the plea deal.

Is it wrong that I enjoyed Iced Earth more than Twisted Sister?
I only had Alive in Athens but there was some decent chunky Maiden/Priest worshipping thrash on there and TS are just fine as a singles band but even there its only a couple of hits I’d ever listen to if they came on.
I don’t activity listen to either anymore.

How good your music is has little to do with how much of a cunt you are though eh?
Although it can ruin it a bit - I can't listen to Pantera any more.
I can listen to Burzum though even though Vikernes is even worse... I guess the music being instrumental is way more open to interpretation whereas Pantera has Phil's personality front and centre.

Pantera were pretty much the first heavy band I discovered for myself but I can’t really listen to them anymore either.
I think its different going into something like Mayhem or Emperor knowing that Varg or Faust played on the album because you’re going in knowing exactly who and what those bands were.
With Pantera or Iced Earth at the time I discovered both neither was a “political band” or really had any particular politics associated with them. Seeing Schaffer storming Washington or Phil being Phil is becomes a bigger issue in retrospect.*
*artistically, obviously being a literal murderer is the wirst in reality.

Whilst it's disappointing to find out a musician you liked has dopey views, it's kinda weird when somebody like Axl Rose, who had some very dodgy lyrics at times and by most accounts is an arrogant twat, ends up being anti-Trump and seems to have sensible views on Covid.
I'm not going to suddenly like him, but it's just odd. If I'd considered it I'd have probably have him pegged for an alt-righty type.
None of this is new, as such but went down a procrastination rabbit hole after seeing some pics of Axl's recent performances where he looks... Well, like a 60 year old trying to act young.

One In A Million had a pretty good tune!
Lyrics aside.

I'm not sure if it was someone here who put me on to these - but if so - thanks muchly :-) If not, then I guess it's only vaguely metal, but carries the same energy and intensity :-)
To be fair, the video is a bit pants, but I'm sure they had fun making it :-)

I'm liking the new Monolord album more than expected. I mean, I like them anyway, but new album has exceeded expectations. Not by much, but it just seems a bit more focused, and I think it leans slightly more into their 70's psychedelia and rock influence at times.
Wont change anyone's perception of them and ultimately it's still fairly derivative doom/stoner metal, but fairly good at what it is.

New Mastodon album is easily their weakest.

New Mastodon album is easily their weakest. Interesting, so far I'm liking it about as much as Emperor of Sand and more than The Hunter or Once More Round the Sun. I've seen it criticised as slow or meandering, but I just like the vibe more than those albums. And there are a couple of heavier songs which are corkers.

I think their latest is definitely their least accessible in a while due to being rather more experimental. But it suffers from the same thing as any other double album, which is that if you cut half the material out it'd be a much better single album. I mostly like it though.

New ETID last week, and new Mastodon tomorrow. My musical tastes of 10 years ago are having a good time! I know its not fair to compare them but so far its the ETID album thats grabbing me most. Mastodon feels like something I need to take a long walk with so I can listen without distraction.

I honestly got used to The Hunter pretty quickly. Nowadays I quite like it. Not as much as Blood Mountain or Crack the Skye, but it's too different to really compare it to those.

Hushed and Grim is definitely growing on me. I’m enjoying it being more of a midpaced chug than full of big hooks like the last few. No real standout tracks for me yet.
Its no Leviathan or Crack The Skye but its solid.

Agreed! I've learned by now with Mastoodon not to assume I know what to expect, even after a few singles. They really haven't released a bad album, but when the Hunter first came out I was pretty disappointed.
Even Crack the Skye wasn't what I really wanted from them at the time (and what I wanted, in my foolish and naive youth, was basically just endless reiterations of Leviathan)

A new Obscura EP was released yesterday. It's good! Yes, really liking this! Back to the best line-up they had that churned out Cosmogenesis apart from Hannes Grossman. Big Hannes fan but the guy they've got seems good!

I think my Mastodon top 3 of Leviathan, Crack The Skye and Remission will never be broken but I still dig what they do.
Metal album of the weekend though, is probably this pure Sabbath worship

The Obscura stuff sounds good, but it's all in lead up to a full album on the 19th Nov which I imagine will add 4-5 other songs on top of what we've got.
