I saw those Jim Root quotes the other day. Weird timing to be dunking on the album the week it comes out. Its a solid album too from what I’ve heard so far.
Was meant to be see Anthrax and Municipal Waste tonight but I’ve hit covid like a brick wall. With a positive test and a raging headache.

This Slipknot album should probably be a Stone Sour one.

I should be seeing Anthrax and the Waste on Saturday in London. Can't fucking wait. New Lamb of God next week. Haven't really liked anything they've done post-Ashes of the Wake (a few great singles excepted) and still think As the Palaces Burn is by far their best work - still sounds savage today and the new stuff is just a bit bland. They still kill it live, seeing them later this year (Dec I think) with Kreator and Gatecreeper.

Yeah I'll dutifully buy the new LoG and like the last few albums probably enjoy about four songs off it. People slated 'Resolution' but I think that's the last time they were varied and great.
I'll always find them listenable but I thought the most recent album was extremely front-loaded and bland. Having loads of guest-star singers is often a sign of creative struggle IMO.
Slipknot - I like it more the more I listen. I think it's actually a fine album, but it's just not as gripping basically as the last couple. I'd probably file it alongside something like 'All Hope Is Gone', it has very similar, 'slightly over-polished whilst still solid' vibes. Still a decent listen.
I actually had a skip through some Stone Sour last night to check the comparisons and nah, I don't get Stone Sour vibes from it, it isn't that naff.

Sorry to hear about you being sick, Simple. I bet Anthrax would be a great gig if they get the sound mix right. Such a chunky, fun and tight band.

Fucks sake.
He’s making it very difficult to dip into the Alive in Athens boxset I’ve got of theirs.

Good time to post this again then
I did listen to a few Iced Earth albums, without loving any.
I think the one I liked most is one that's not seen that favourably, namely the Framing Armageddon album, with Tim Owens on vocals.
I did enjoy Schaeffer's Demons and Wizards project though.

I liked the Ripper stuff, I think he did two albums with them. I didn't care for their original vocalist at all. Now I doubt I'll ever listen to them again. Have you heard the band/album Charred Walls of the Damned? I may have the name slightly wrong. Ripper sings and the main writer/producer was that zany metalcore producer, I wanna say Jason or Justin Suecof? Drummer was a big DM name I think. Really good album. EDIT: Jason was right. Drums by Richard Christy and bass by Steve DiGeorgio. Quite a line up.

If by original vocalist you mean Matt Barlow, I beg to differ, Matt is a force to be reckoned with and exceptional during live concerts. That's not a dig at Ripper, although I'm kind of biased when it comes to replacement of iconic singers (like Halford for example) Must check out Charred Walls though, thanks for suggesting them!

Awful shame to hear that the vocalist for Crystal Lake had to stepdown due to adjustment disorder. Hope he gets the help he needs. Sounds like the band will carry on with a new vocalist, but those are big shoes to fill.

Amazon just broke the street day for new LoG. Have not had chance to listen yet sadly. If anyone has it on pre-order fingers crossed! Of course it's now leaked. Not by me.

Have had a couple of listens to LoG but only as background to typing at work on earphones.
There's some gnarly riffs and stuff for sure but not their best IMO. It's overly loud in general and the drums are particular offenders. LoG always sounded crisp at their best but this just sounds like a mess of kick, snare and cymbal with some guitars riding underneath. Sounds like every drum hit has been replaced by samples. Honestly a bit hard to listen to.
I spotted an obligatory hardcore punk part. No songs have massively jumped out at me. I think sadly they've been on a creative downwards trajectory since the last album with Chris Adler, which is when they started to get a bit dull for me.
It's still OK and I'm sure it will grow on me.

I'm enjoying Ellende's latest at the mo. I really liked Triebe, and this one does more of the same, mixing black metal blasts with melancholic post-rock vibes. ellende.bandcamp.com/

Gave this album a chance as Tidal recommended it to me. Not sure how many here are into melodic metalcore but I found Eulogies For Those That Are Here by Counterpoints was a pretty decent listen.

I've just got round to listening to Ghost's 'Impera' and I'm really enjoying it. Very 80s, very catchy.
Even the singles I heard a couple of times on YouTube when released sound catchier now, although I might not have been in the mood for them back then.
There's some repetitive choruses which feel a little lazy to me (Hunter's Moon and Watcher in the Sky), but there's so many other ear worms.
I don't know if it will sustain long-term listening (I tended to like their other albums a lot initially too, then drop off them) but for now I've got the melodies bobbling around in my head most of the day.

That's a shame, I wasn't into the last 2 albums and their change in direction but Warp Riders is one of my favourite albums. Nothing but riff after riff.
And to add to the sad news, the vocalist for Rivers of Nihil has left the band too. Bass player to fill in lead vocals who does the screaming anyway and they still say they will continue and have a new release apparently.

The Sword put out Warp Riders and apparently immediately ran out of ideas. That album is banger after banger and then everything after was dire.
The new Autonoesis record is killer:
Thrashy, proggy death extravaganza.

One of the best albums of all time that. Definitely a big part of what got me into the more experimental side of heavy music.

Alissa's clean vocals are too good to be hidden away behind Arch Enemy songs. This is a fun little listen if nothing spectacular.

Darkthrone - Astral Fortress and Sodom - 40 Years at War (a compilation where they have rerecorded one song from each of their albums) out today, so that's my weekend listening sorted. UPDATE New Darkthrone is great. Kinda similair vein to "Eternal Hails......", still very doom metally, but actually leans a bit more into heavy metal. Gives me Celtic Frost, Black Sabbath, even Dio vibes. All whilst being very Darkthrone. Couple of black metal tremelo riffs here and there. I'm liking this a lot.
There's also a song called "The Sea Beneath The Seas of The Sea" which as well as being 10 minutes long without outstayings it's welcome, has a title which makes me laugh. Which is the intent I think; Darkthrone humour, up there with the double elipses in the title of "Eternal Hails......"

That new Darkthrone sounds right up my street.
The new Worm EP is pretty cool. Not sure what they are exactly, progressive blackened death doom I guess? The last track, Shadowside Kingdom is 3 minutes of atmospheric intro followed by 3 of symphonic black metal excess.
Just in time for Halloween...
Edit: on the subject of Darkthrone humour, the album cover is someone with a Darkthrone jacket just doing some casual ice skating. I love how they're taking the piss a bit, but not a pisstake band.
