I think everyone knows Dave was in Metallica, mainly because Dave keeps mentioning it in nearly every interview he has. But it's cool, he's totally moved on. Totally.

Tbf it seems generally it's the interviewer asking. He shouldn't care except if he wanted the bigger pop fame that Metallica have. Album wise Megadeth is comfortably ahead of Metallica.

New Megadave is ok to me, it's much better than the last one due to it being less full of bland chugga chugga and Dave's thinly veiled anti-immigrant rhetoric. It's lacking a lot of the fun that their classics have though, the playfulness of Rust in Peace and Peace Sells etc. It's not boring though, unlike Dystopia. But it does all blend together a bit by the end. Could do with being a bit shorter if it's going to be this way IMO.
More interesting releases this week for me are the new Blind Guardian and Aeternam records. How Aeternam aren't signed yet is bewildering.

I dunno, Metallica have made their missteps but I very much prefer Metallica's good album's to Megadeths.
Though tbh unless I'm feeling nostalgic, I usually just end up listening to Sodom or some of the thrash revivalists if I'm a thrash mood.

Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets have a level of craft and epicness to them that's just hard for anyone to match to be honest. Rust and Peace sells are just fun, tight thrash albums that barely put a note wrong. They're both exceptional pairs of albums for different reasons, but Metallica's duo just kinda transcend being "just" thrash metal I think.

Holy hell that was good overall and that final two minutes was one epic way to close out the album.

I don’t mind Megadeth but they’re easily my least favourite of the Big Four.
They were never as fun as Anthrax, as extreme as Slayer or as catchy as Metallica

Respectfully disagree - whilst totally agreeing with your points about those Metallica albums. I think the two big Megadeth classics have not just a technicality, but a nimbleness and a swing not common to the genre that elevates them over, say, your average Exodus disc. I love me some Exodus but it's quite basic punk attitude thrash by contrast. RIP in particular OTOH, has a bit of jazzyness in the rhythms to me. The new album also seems to get this, I haven't heard it in them since System Has Failed. I agree that Dave could do without some of his lyrical and personal stances. It does spoil things somewhat, not to the extent Pantera ruined their legacy though. But I hate NWO type crap which is really common in metal. I think back in the day it was probably just a cool, edgy story to put to stuff but now it obviously serves as dog whistling. Megadave loves a bit of illuminati crap. I also believe that the Metallica thing *is* brought up by interviewers. Personally, I'm glad it happened as we get both catalogues.

Metallica and Megadeth are both totally awesome and quite different IMHO.
Megadeth have the jazzy technicality and attitude
Metallica have the epic songwriting and groove
Exodus are good and all, but not in the same league as either.

Really nice 4 way split on bandcamp between Wraith, Black Knife, Graveripper and Unholy Night. "Blackened thrash n Roll" would be the best way to describe the overall package. Or the split's name "Faster Than the Fucking Devil" is also a good indicator of what to expect, maybe. But all the band's bring something different to it. If you like quick, dirty, scuzzy stuff it's worth a listen at least. wisebloodrecords.bandcamp.com/album/faster-than-the-fucking-devil

Has anyone else noticed the Megadeth album cover looks more than a bit Bloodborney?

Not listened to the new Megadeth yet. Too busy listening to Blind Guardian's latest. It's probably their heaviest for about 20 years, with a very Somewhere Far Beyond sound to it.

Oh shit, Anaal Nathrakh (with a live line up featuring members of Akercocke and Voices) and Sigh are playing the Scala in December.
Sighs first UK gig in 12 years and the only date.
And the statement Dave put out suggests there's unlikely to be anymore Anaal Nathrakh gigs in the near future.
Fuck it, I'm going. Not sure how I'll get there or where I'll sleep, logistics can wait until tomorrow. But I've purchased the ticket.

Embolded by spaffing far too much money on the Anaal Nathrakh / Sigh gig, I'm also going to see Liturgy and Dawn Ray'd next month.

New Darkthrone in October.
I know they can be hit and miss but I'll always have time for them. There's just something I like about their unpretentious, just making music for the sake of it attitude I like. The last album was a hit and tbh I'm not sure this will be as good, but it'll be a purchase for me for sure.
Very fun introduction video.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of all their albums but Fenriz is excellent value. He should do grim Cameos.

Went to see Machine Head and Amon Amarth at Wembley last night.
Both bands absolutely killed it, Amon Amarth had a range of massive set pieces and lots of pyro, Machine Head's live energy is still absolutely unreal and the crowd was great too.

Turns out the support act for Zeal and Ardor's UK dates is going to be Heriot. Which is nice.

Quite like this new Sumerlands. I mean, it's very 80's, kinda cheesy, but pretty cool.
Wonder if the album can sustain my interest. Their first album had some cool bits but flagged a bit. I like this song though.

The first half of that Sumerlands album is killer, but the second half is dull. Looking forward to new material though.

Returning to "The Painter's Palette" by Ephel Duath. Kind of difficult, but I'm starting to like it more again.

Discover WEEDIAN on Bandcamp, basically a series of Doom/Stoner compilations. There's loads, each of which can run to 2 hours per compilation - most are themed by country. And they're all name-your-price.
Ultimately it's Doom/Stoner metal so it does blur into one. There's only so much Iommi worship you can make before it starts to sound a bit samey. But a few tracks stand out. The "Trip to Japan" compilation has intrigued me the most.

More awesome black metal. Like, really awesome.

Are Slipknot allowed in here
New album 'The End, So Far' released yesterday.
Jim Root has been critical of the recording process, stating it was rushed, he felt uninspired and then it's apparently sat for a long time when everything was tracked months ago.
It's growing on me but it does seem a step down compared to the prior two post-Joey Jordison albums. I though 'We Are Not Your Kind' was excellent and it does seem like they haven't met that bar.
I will say it's getting more under my skin on subsequent listens.

I like Slipknot. Last album was actually pretty solid.
I was vaguely aware that were doing something new but didn't know it had been released. I'll give it a listen at some point but I've already got a load of things I want to listen to so it's not high on my priority list.
