Malevolence's new album is pretty decent even if the power ballad in the middle pumps the brakes on the full aggression a little. But still, decent Pantera esque grooves.

I actually quite enjoy this, in one song it appeals to my Nu-Metal, Power Metal and Folk Metal traits. Still waiting for a band that can do that and also make it all Blackened. Its only a matter of time though.

The new Blut Aus Nord album is on YouTube in full. It's certainly not an easy listen. Unsettling. In many ways it does sound like what you might expect a Blut Aus Nord album about the HP Lovecraft mythos to sound The songs are all painted with the same palette, so it's very much an album piece. No individual track has really stood out after a single listen, but I suspect that's down to me not picking out the intricacies yet. But it feels more like an album to sink into. Intriguing stuff all in all. Always 50/50 on Blut Aus Nord but I'm quite enjoying this. Just on the right side of Lovecraftian chaos and sonic assault.

Apologies, more Bloodywood, but I'm basically going to be onboard with anything where the first line is about putting a fist through the face of a rapist.
Although I have became aware that there's more than a few Nu-Metal tinged bands coming up now. Which I don't mind as I kind of enjoyed that shit, but realising I'm old enough to enjoy even a small Nu-Metal revival is odd. I FEEL OLD.
just to add - Bloodywood literally have no label, last I checked. which would mean it's punk AF.

Dolorian: Bit of a weird Black/Doom/Ambient-band.

Been in a thrash mood with Kreator's latest landing tomorrow, and discovering some new stuff. Enjoying Warbringer.

Been on a bit of a thrash and crossover tip recently. Never really listened to them properly much but I'm liking Sodom quite a bit. And Municipal Waste are banging.

Deathevokation - As My Soul Gazes Skywards youtu.be/vqfBKqtqxo4Final one for the night. Absolutely adore this song, from a proper kvlt underground album that no cunt seems to have heard of.

Well this scratches a Bolt Thrower itch.
Only really heard this because I was on a bit of a crossover thrash tip recently, and Iron Reagan did a split EP with these guys.
(I mean I'd still rather listen to Bolt Thrower to scratch this particular itch, but if I exhaust their stuff and want more this could be viable.)

Wow. What are the chances. Two great bands beginning with K releasing disappointing albums last Friday. 🙁
Kreator - The good tracks were released as singles. The rest is pointless.
Keldian - What the fuck happened? This is the power-prog metal sci fi extraordinaire that gave us Life and Death Under Strange New Suns (a Mass Effect tribute) a few years ago. It may grow on me but this is the most disappointing change of direction since Opeth's Heritage.

Blood Incantation and Enforced next Friday. edit: gig at the Underworld that is, not new albums!
Unbelievably, clashing with High on Fire and Dvne which I'm gutted to miss. Seen HoF before a few times though and I have a feeling there will be lots more chances to see Dvne again in future. Still considering a trip to Bristol on Sunday to catch them then!

Another one for the not-metal-but-not-far-off category:
A Botch cover by a cast of luminaries, including Kurt Ballou (Converge), Dimitri Minakakis (best era of The Dillinger Escape Plan), Andrew Gormley (Rorschach), and Ben Verellen (Helms Alee, and brother to Botch's own Dave Verellen).
As Sunn O))) used to say, maximum volume yields maximum results.

I go back and forth on Sigh a lot. Not even sure they can really be called metal at this point but they have a foot in black metal but have just forrayed into all sorts of shit (good shit). But sometimes they lose me.
This new track is pretty dope though, very prog.

This is definitely not metal, but I found it interesting and kinda neat that the Zeal & Ardor guy also has a totally unashamed yacht rock project. Video features actual boats.

Gave the last one by Minsk (Post Metal) another listen last weekend. Still blown away by the first three songs every time. The rest of the album always seems kind of weak after that even though it isn't really.

New Spiritbox single sounding kinda different, for lack of a better comparison almost Garbage-esque. Like Shirley Manson did metalcore. But still has those moments to remind you who you're listening to. Rest of the EP is good too.

Holy fucking shit if you get the chance to see Blood Incantation and Enforced live then fucking do it... Two bands at the absolute top of their respective games. Destroyed the Underworld last night. Absolutely unbelievably good!

I've wanted to like Imperial Triumphant mainly because I really love their art deco aesthetic, and I can tell there's something interesting going on in the music, but I've never really cracked it previously. The discordant jazz influences created a bit of a barrier, can't lie.
But I do kinda dig this new track.
(it's also a rare avant-garde black metal jazz track that features fucking Kenny G on sax).
