From Abraham's new album. Took me a few listens, but little by little I started liking it more and more. Nicely varied and interesting.
Still don't really know what to do with Immutable, but I have only listened through it two times.

DISCLAIMER: They may not qualify as 'metal', but I'm going to put the question in this thread anyway. Purists, feel free to yell at me! Can anyone recommend another band like The Dillinger Escape Plan? Thanks in advance.
Just giving this a quick bump - any other recommendations (aside from Pupil Slicer, who are indeed pretty good)?
If it helps at all, I'm thinking specifically of Dillinger's first album (and the similar-sounding songs/bits from those that followed).
A quick search turns up stuff like: - The Hirsch Effekt - Psyopus - The Crinn - An Isle ate her - Car Bomb - Toothgrinder
Quote from reddit:
"Some of my favorite "mathy" bands are Botch, Converge, Sikth, The Safety Fire, Equal Minds Theory, Torrential Downpour, Toothgrinder, Exotic Animal Petting Zoo, Car Bomb, Psyopus, Rolo Tomassi, Destrage, See You Next Tuesday(Psyopus with more Death Metal/Grindcore), Dionaea, The Crinn, Carnivores At Grace, Every Time I Die(southern influenced), The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Sectioned, Cave In, Protest The Hero, Enabler, The Chariot, Coalesce, Ion Dissonance, Hunab Ku..."
I haven't listened to most of these, so no clue how similar they really are. And some of the bands in there don't sound like Dillinger at all. I mean Cave In?!?

ToomuchFluffyThanks so much! I've heard a good number of those bands already, but there are still plenty that're new to me. I'll check 'em out ASAP. One of the things I've found is that "mathcore" and "metalcore" tend to be used interchangeably, which confuses matters further still. I tend to think of Botch (for instance) as a metalcore band - drop-D tuning, chugga-chugga riffs, long songs, and so on - whereas I'd apply the mathcore label to The Dillinger Escape Plan (on Calculating Infinity, at least) due to the more technical nature of their songs. Unfortunately, most "mathcore" bands seem to follow the Botch template rather than the one Dillinger laid out, for whatever reason... and, of course, I'm looking for the bands that fit the latter mould. Thanks again.

Not really sure how I've managed to avoid listening to 1914 until now.
I think they're fucking amazing, listing to their last couple of albums has given me that tingly frisson feeling several times. Very strong Bolt Thrower influence, but more blackened.

No problem. I have recently been listening through snippets from various bands that are labelelled as "Post Hardcore" on one website and they mostly are just stock-standard Metalcore bands. That seems to be kind of in line with the conventions, but at least to me it suggests something broader than just Metalcore. This kind of confusion is the exact reason why much of the time I struggle with knowing what genre any given band really belongs into.

I know every metal band to have ever existed is playing but I’m pleased to see Ghost finally step up to headliner status. It feels like forever since someone ‘new’ took a top slot and they’ve been contenders for a couple of albums now.

Green Lung announced as tour support for Clutch in November.
I’ve been extremely gig shy since covid hit but I think I might take a chance on this one

Danishmendt: Industrial Blackened Sludge according to Metallum. Kind of strange, but I do quite like it at times.

Disillusion (Melodic/Prog Death Metal): Their lyrics are a bit on the weak side, but otherwise good for a fun and interesting listen. The song is from the recent third album. It's "Back to times of splendour" (the first album) in the opinion of quite a few people apparently and the songs are long and complex. The second album "Gloria" had shorter songs and I think ideas were more self-contained. Bit more experimental as well.

Imagine a band who combine the sound of Ozzy-era Sabbath with the sound of Dio-era Sabbath

Been listening to the new Rammstein album.
It's alright. Not great. I really liked their last album, but Zeit just lacks something for me. It's entirely fine but the album starts and finishes and then just vanishes from my memory.
It's elevator music.

Thanks for sharing! I was aware of their collaboration with Orphaned Land, but had not listened to them before...

I think they released a single a while back and there was talk of another album, but it never materialized. Not sure why. I believe this was supposed to be a trilogy.

Been listening to English Dogs recently, punk-turned-metal band from the mid 80's. Fenriz has expressed his enjoyment of them on more than one occasion and I think you can hear the influence of them in Darkthrone's crustier stuff.

Quite upset that High on Fire and Dvne are playing the same day as Blood Incantation and Enforced.
Already got tickets for the latter, will probably stick with them as I've seen HoF before and will probably have lots of chances to see Dvne in the future... but still...

Trevor Strnad, frontman of The Black Dahlia Murder, has died. The official posting references contacting a suicide hotline if you need help.

Damn shame. I was never a huge fan of his band but the guy seemed like a great dude, and involved in lots of stuff around the metal community. Big loss and tragic for everyone that knew him.

The new Blut Aus Nord album is on YouTube in full.
It's certainly not an easy listen. Unsettling. In many ways it does sound like what you might expect a Blut Aus Nord album about the HP Lovecraft mythos to sound
The songs are all painted with the same palette, so it's very much an album piece. No individual track has really stood out after a single listen, but I suspect that's down to me not picking out the intricacies yet. But it feels more like an album to sink into.
Intriguing stuff all in all.
