Maybe I'm just having a weird moment but I'm actually enjoying the new Hammerfall album.
I can't say I've really enjoyed any of their albums since No Sacrifice, No Victory, they just lacked something - on the face of it this doesn't do much different, but it seems to have a spark that was missing from their last few albums.
I mean, it's still cheesy as fuck and the lyrics are still very much obsessed with raising the hammer and rhyming lightning with fighting, but if that doesn't make you want to tear your face off it's pretty fun.
I'm also still amused that Joacim Cans reminds me of Julian Barrat as Dan Ashcroft.

Yeah a real shame. I'm sure they have their reasons, doubt it's as simple as "they're being dicks" but he was a great fit for the band musically. I have a strange gut feeling Deftones are going to call it a day soon.

Chino does have a new Crosses album due this year so at the very least I suppose Deftones will be taking a solid length break.
Ohms would be a heck of a way to go. Their best since White Pony and still in regular rotation here.

The new Sabaton is ok for those that like that sort of thing. There's nothing new on it, and whilst better than Great War, they do feel like a band that's run out of ideas and energy.

Dave Grohl is releasing a metal EP, as the fictional band who appeared in that recent Studio 666 film.
It sounds okay. I mean, bit derivative sure, but it does sound like it could have come from the 1980's thrash scene so it seems fairly period correct. Might actually have a listen when it's released.

New Blut Aus Nord is going to be pretty sick based on this. After the more easily digested Hallucinogen, this track has taken a bit of a turn to the weird again, but still has some elements of the psychedelia the last album presented.
I just love that kinda droning throughout.
Sick artwork too, do like a nice cosmic horror.

Never listened to these guys before, was expecting black metal but that very much isn't. Then I listened to the first track of their previous album Hallucinogen and it was... nice (a bit Alcesty perhaps?)
Interesting band, will keep an eye.
Still a long way off but getting excited for Enforced and Blood Incantation in June. Pretty much two of my favourite current bands. Covid better not fuck this up!

Love the artwork, descriptions suggest a halfway house between cosmic psychedelia and industrial horror? In other news, now the sun is out I'm blasting Macabre Omen and old Motörhead. Proper feel-good stuff, y'know?

Also, I think it's remarkable that BaN released "The Work Which Transforms God" and then continued to find new heights. Utterly incredible.

@goatapocalypse
"halfway house between cosmic psychedelia and industrial horror" would be a fair description, at least of this track 👍

One of the heaviest songs I've heard
Both literally and lyrically. Hits like a truck. That riff at the end is so chonky

Alright I'm drunk so let's talk about Cultes des Ghoules black metal masterpiece Henbane youtu.be/Se90eQhC7D0Utterly fucking poisonous and demented. One of those very rare albums where you're like, Wait, actual human beings made this? They didn't just leave a tape recorder by a portal to a hell dimension? Easily in my top 5.

Odem Arcarum: German Black Metal. Not that well known I think, but definitely worth a listen.

Gibson are doing a series of hour long shows called 'Metal And Monsters' on their YouTube channel.

Returning to the latest Gojira album, having been initially into it and then a bit lukewarm, it's a bit of a stadium-metal beast. Looking forward to seeing some of this stuff live. They've really melded heaviness, catchiness, technicality and a sort of nice spiritual vibe. Might have gone off it again tomorrow, but until then

Did Jonathan Davis deflect the shot with his scatting?

I quite liked this, the singer's voice *slightly* reminds me of Lisa Gerrard so the whole thing comes across like a doom metal Dead Can Dance.
I mean they're not as good as Dead Can Dance, few bands are. But then, Dead Can Dance don't have scuzzy riffs so it's all good.

How the shit did the fact that Rammstein are releasing a new album at the end of April completely pass me by until now?

Seems like Revocation is releasing a new album in Autumn. One of my favourite current bands, I'm excited to see how they could possibly top The Outer Ones

Some more doom I stumbled across. Some nice analog synth sounds, few hints of psychedelia.
And Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard is a pretty cool band name.

still trying to work out how much I like this (solo "black metal" project by Matt Heafy). I'm mostly just unbalanced by the knowledge that the harsh vocals were supplied by Gerard Way. I'm happy to say I enjoy some My Chemical Romance albums, but Way has never sounded this harsh. Ihshan provides some guitar noodling too.
It's a decent 7 or 8/10 I think.

Messa are great, both Belfry and Feast for Water are brilliant albums that I return to time and again.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum: Apparently not metal, but I still think at least this song fits in here best.

Ooooh new Negative Plane out this month negativeplane.bandcamp.com/Stained Glass Revelations is one of my all-time faves, along with The Archer Takes Aim by sister-band Funereal Presence. Really looking forward to this.

Not really heard Negative Plane before at all to be honest, but I like how that new songs sounds quite a lot. Has quite a retro kinda sound, in the best possible way. Actually proggy and psychedelic. And I like actually hearing the bass in the mix. Will have a listen to their other stuff.
Anyway, came here to post a couple of things I've been enjoying.
First: Véhémence - Ordalies. I guess it's black metal but the tones and melodies make me think of some melodeath stuff, reminds me of very early Amon Amarth at times. Pretty cool, maybe a tad cheesy but I'm not opposed to that.
Secondly: Cailleach Calling - Dreams of Fragmentation
Members of Dawn of Ouroboros and Botanist. it's some kinda cool black metal. Or post-black metal. I don't really know the difference. But it has some melody and some very nice synths here and there. And Chelsea Murphy's vocals are just amazing in their harshness.

DISCLAIMER: They may not qualify as 'metal', but I'm going to put the question in this thread anyway. Purists, feel free to yell at me! Can anyone recommend another band like The Dillinger Escape Plan? Thanks in advance.
Just giving this a quick bump - any other recommendations (aside from Pupil Slicer, who are indeed pretty good)?
If it helps at all, I'm thinking specifically of Dillinger's first album (and the similar-sounding songs/bits from those that followed).
