Turns out Kai Hansen is an antivaxer and AfD supporter. That's a shame.

Had a weird urge to listen to Sikth, so had a look at their newer stuff (That's still five years old now) I liked it. fun pop fact: one of the singers (the most deranged sounding one) apparently did the voice acting for several characters in Disco Elysium. That’s really cool! I always thought there could be a small crossover between some metal vocals and voice acting. Will Ramos in particular springs to mind with his super demonic vocals

I get the impression from some other threads that some FGer's really dislike Korn, but I like them.
Been listening to their new album over the weekend. It's decent. Not as good as The Nothing (which I genuinely think is up there in the top 5 albums of theirs), but good. Has a good Issues / Untouchables vibe at times.
Really like this track, just sounds quite genuinely sad and melancholic. If the chorus's chord progression was tremolo picked over a blastbeat it'd be a decent depressive black metal track. Or maybe I'm just talking shit.

I saw Slipknot touring their last album with Korn in support and I honestly thought Korn blew them off the stage.

Shiiiiit, totally forgot the new Amorphis album is out today. Fucking hell. I meant to order the vinyl. What are the odds my local shitty HMV will have it in? Will run up after work.

Fuck it, got the Mrs to order it on her Prime so I'll have it tomorrow. Don't trust that HMV as they've never had Amorphis in their vinyl section before. I get access to the MP3's immediately but going to hold off and get my first listen on the vinylly goodness. One of my favourite bloody bands ever. Can't wait.

New Amorphis album is a belter as ever. Hope they switch up the formula a little next time though. Google photos reminded me it's now been 3 fucking years since I saw them live in Camden...

I do like Korn but they are a bit cringe to me, mostly because I connect them with my mid to late teens, wearing silly jeans with big chains and spraying blue shit in my hair.
Musically they're great fun.
Nowhere near as cringe as Slipknot or Limp Bizkit either.
PSA: New Venom Prison, Cult of Luna, Rolo Tomassi and Zeal & Ardor all out in the last couple of weeks and all brilliant.
Anyone else due to see Gojira in a few weeks, are things generally going ahead at the moment?

New Amon Amarth. It's very Amon Amarthish. No surprises just some solid, viking-themed, NWOBHM-tinged melodeath. It's fun and I like it, and Hegg's growling is still just great.

Oooh I'm right in the mood for more Aman Amarth, even though they'll never top Twilight of the Thunder God.

Missed this. Yeah. It's fucking amazing. The thing is, as much as I think it would be good to switch the formula up, they do it SO well... I'd love to see them live.

Arjen Lucassen put out a new record under his Star One project, wasn't even aware it existed but might give it a go.
It's as amazingly cheesy as expected.
I guess the thing that sets it apart from his Ayreon project is it leans slightly more into the metal / hard rock side of things, and lyrically it's not some epic sci-fi narrative, but rather, as with the earlier Star One albums, each song is based on a sci-fi film.

The original Star One album was how I discovered Arjen. Almost everything he does is amazing.

That new Zeal and Ardor album is pretty fantastic.
I knew it would have some spiritual neo-soul / black metal madness but it's a lot more than that, it jumps around metal and rock genres quite willingly. Some tracks remind me of Sepultura style tribal metal (Run), others Deaf Heaven Blackgaze (Emersion). Frankly, there's even some Korn-esque nu-metal bits (I Caught You).
But somehow it all just works, whilst keeping it's own very unique sense of identity. Gagneux's voice is ridiculously varied, going from the spiritual blues/gospel harmonies to black metal shrieks, via moments Tom Wait's-esque gravel.
Anyway, it's very good.

Unsurprisingly, new Immolation is banging.
Nobody does the massive dissonant sound like they do. Love their style, definitely one of my favourite DM bands.

A little early on this, but Blut Aus Nord's new album is out on May. Vindsval promises it will "definitely not" sound like Hallucinogen, which I assume rules out the Memoria Vetusta sound too.
My favourites of theirs - The Work Which Transforms God aside - tend to the more melodic side (Memoria Vetusta II is probably my favourite album of all time) but I'm eager, nonetheless.

It's good that Vindsval likes to experiment and push their music in new directions, but I really loved Hallucinogen so I'd have been up for another like that.

Just out of interest, does anyone like The Body?
I hear them getting raved about but I guess I'm still not far enough down the rabbit hole to hear anything but shitty horrible noise.

Lol Blood Incantation - doing a variation on Sleep's Dopesmoker by moving to a big record label, and turning in a full ambient album for their first release. Just as well I love ambient music as well as Blood Incantation! Just hope they play some metal when I go to see them live in June

This seems rather good.
Indonesian black metal, concept about a mother who survived the Indonesian mass killings in the 1960's and her fifty years of life following the horrific events that saw her son kidnapped, tortured, killed.

How about some Filipino death metal?
Whilst the riffs and sound is great I really like this track because I think it's about Final Fantasy 7. Jenova is referred to as the calamity from the skies in the game and I think the lyrics refer to the stream of life at one point. I mean, it's death metal so frankly I'm not sure what 96% of the lyrics are. But in my head it's about FF7. I'd actually be disappointed if that isn't the case

I have been listening to them for a while, but it's very hit and miss. I usually like the choir involvement the most. I have also been listening to another one by Wormfood. After the preceding album I wouldn't have expected this, but I do quite like it.
Edit: Oh, and Abraham have released a new album very recently in case anyone is interested. Post Metal/Atmospheric Sludge or some such.
