Yeah this doesn't really seem likely to be something that's going to be resolved quickly. That said I don't know any of these guys so maybe they'll talk it out and get to a better place. Seems as if Keith may have made some big changes to his lifestyle that aren't currently working with the band's tour and there's obviously some kind of communication breakdown. If this is where they go out then at least musically it's on a high (as they have been for a good 10+ years now). Absolute legends of the game, the lot of them.

There was a big interview on the Kerrang website when the album came out that made it sound like Keith has basically reinvented himself even since it was recorded. Divorced, getting clean, moving 100km away to live in a camper van. He sounded super positive about it but I guess it hasn’t fit well with being a touring hardcore band Edit: this is that interview www.kerrang.com/behind-blue-eyes-the-radical-rebirth-of-keith-buckley

Added quite a lot of stuff to my library this month:
Dormant Ordeal - The Grand Scheme of Things: Great Tech-Death that is more toward the regular Death end of the spectrum. Really liked their previous album, and glad this is good too. Sunless - Ylem: Great Prog Death metal, has groovy, sludginess to it. Mystras - Empires Vanquished and Dismantled: Curious mix of folk and black metal. Production is kinda weak, but great tracks. Black Soul Horde - Horrors From the Void: Great epic metal, definitely check it out if you love stuff like Atlantean Kodex, and stuff like Manilla road. Tower - Shock to the System: Classic speed metal with some really awesome vocals. Stormkeep - Tales of Othertime: Thrashy epic melodic black metal. Tons of fun. Kinfe - Knife: Blackened thrash that lives up to stuff like Hellripper pretty nicely.

Keep hearing Stormkeep mentioned.
Gonna have to give their album a listen this weekend. From the description I'm imagining Dissection but without the unease of listening to music made by a bad person.
edit: gave it a go, pretty decent - less Dissection more Heart of Winter-era Immortal. Good fun, reminds me a bit also of Havukruunu

What a shout on that Dormant Ordeal album. Just the kind of tech black metal I like, kinda similar to Revocation which I love. Absolutely brutal.

Shown at the Game Awards last night, the upcoming rhythm shooter game Hellsinger has brought in talent like Randy from Lamb of God, Matt from Tribium, Alissa from Arch Enemy and Tatiana from Jinjer. Could be fun, people aren't wrong saying it looks like one of those fake games you would see in a CSI episode lol

Very Doom 2016 vibes too. It screams of being the kind of game I’d play the demo of but never commit to the full product, looks fun though.

Can't really agree with that, that felt like a long intro that never went anywhere. I see this is not a new artist, were they less trap/hip hop before? Not much black metal left in that.
Definitely interesting though, might check out some other songs and see if they appeal more to me.

Sure, not that Black Metal anymore, but there is a huge amount of more "standard" BM bands anyway. I certainly don't know any other bands that sound like this though. I wouldn't say that more standard BM bores me, but it's rarely this weird.

Bit of new Napalm Death. Nice vintage ND sound to this one.

Anyone able to get into London this evening and fancy seeing Bossk and Dvne at the Highbury Garage?
Should be brilliant, gutted I can't go because of illness but if anyone wants the tickets, you can have them (free).

Not been massively into into the few other "blackgaze" bands I've heard tbh, but I think I like MØL. Their Jord album more than their new album, though that's decent too.

I don't know why, because they really aren't that similar, but my recent dalliance with MØL made me think about early In Flames, so I revisited their stuff.
They were pretty good. They did lose me after the Clayman album , but albums 2-5 were pretty damned solid and had some great tracks.

Been trying some of the bands on Bandcamps "best metal of 2021" list.
I rather like this, made me laugh with joy at the angular brutality of it all. Might have to give their album a listen.
Love the squicky band name too.

This is pretty great, I think. And the title sounds like a drink that I wish existed.

One of the older songs by Smohalla. French Avant-garde Post Black Metal.
Burst: Some Swedes that started out as Hardcore and turned more towards Progressive/Post. One of their last songs.

This new Trivium album...
First listen: "this is some cheesy bullshit"
2 days later: somehow feel like I must listen to that Trivium track again... *Bursting into song* "I'm crawliiiiing, crawling through the feast of fire"

This new Trivium album... First listen: "this is some cheesy bullshit" 2 days later: somehow feel like I must listen to that Trivium track again... *Bursting into song* "I'm crawliiiiing, crawling through the feast of fire" I'll need to give that a listen. They're a band who I couldn't stand initially, back in the day, but seem to have done alright since. I'm kind of intrigued by the project Heafy has done with Ihshahn, supposedly black metal of some sort, think it's out next year now. (I'll admit that when doing a quick fact check to make sure I hadn't imagined the entire thing, I couldn't quite remember Matt Heafy's name and I ended up searching for the "black metal project by Matt Healy", who was the singer in that 1975 band. That would be a very different thing).

Like I said I couldn't stand it when I first heard it (made me think of recent Machine Head, which is not a good thing), but then a few days later I really wanted to listen to it.

I always thought of them as baby’s first metal band when they were first around (I think I was an undergrad, so a dick) but Heafy seems like a solid guy and I’ve had that BOAT RUDDER song in my head for weeks

My memory of them is that they started out as black album-era Metallica worship? I know I saw them as warm-up for Slayer at one point. I know they've slightly changed their style through the years, but towards what? Towards heavier, or softer? I assume better based on comments here and elsewhere. I'm thinking maybe it's time I gave them another chance.

I don't mean to say they've turned into some kind of extreme metal band or something.
They just do standard "metal" well, with catchy choruses. I guess the same kind of thing they've always done just got better at it?
Elements of Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, Killswitch in there.
