Can't get it on youtube, but Hendrix's cover of Daytripper is amazing Yeah, another good one. What I loved about the 60s is that they all just covered each other, gave songs away and all sorts, all (or mostly) for the love of music. No arguments about royalties etc. Frustrating. Sounds of the 60s with Brian Matthew was brilliant for highlighting this. Where would Elvis have been without covers?! Here he is closing out his Vegas show with a song made famous by Dusty Springfield (though her was a cover too) Dusty herself did so many blinding covers, but this probably has to be top

Comedy cover with a crap ton of talent I kinda end up preferring over the original (thunderstruck - steve'n'seagulls, original ac/dc) That's a cracker, and reminded me of this gem

If we're going down the "comedy" route, you can include a large chunk of Hayseed Dixie's output.

Steve Earle, covering the Supersuckers' Creepy Jackalope Eye (with a little help from Eddie Spaghetti)

Thanks to dogbot for reminding me... He didn't even do the last two verses. It's a perfectly sufficient cover, but I think what makes me saddest is that people genuinely think it's his song. Hey ho.

Mark Lanegan has done a rich variety of covers over the years, not least:
Shares little in common with the Gun Club's original, but is still superb.
Anything off "I'll Take Care of You", honestly. But particularly that one as well as the covers of the Leaving Trains' Creeping Coastline of Lights or Tim Hardin's Shiloh Town.

Weirdly again I come in to post something and it's just been posted. Cash's version of Hurt is the definitive version for me and no mistake. He really made that song his own.

White Stripes - Jolene (edit) Listened to it again. It's actually magnificent. You can really hear the hurt in his voice. It's chilling.

Hurt is amazing, the whole of American Recordings IV is excellent, but for me this is the standout

This still sounds good, though I actually prefer one of the remixes from a few years ago:

I prefer every version on Jeffrey Lewis’s 12 Crass Songs to the originals

Does it still count as a cover if Dolly's singing it?
And another PTX one, I prefer their version of Sound of Silence to Disturbed's
And sticking with acapella, Voiceplay's version of Oogie Boogie's Song is better than the original (and that last note)
They recently did a pretty nice take on the Halo theme too
But this is still the best cover ever

Seen The Wipers mentioned a few times in this thread, reminded me that Nirvana's cover of D7 is fucking banging I'd forgotten about that. Brilliant, I actually prefer it to the original.

Remixes you say? Pretty sure I crapped up a thread with dance remixes of pop songs back at the other place, so I'll try not to here...
Ok maybe just the one, self indulgent pick because I had this record and played it out plenty in my DJ days

Another great cover from the King himself:
ELVIS - Bridge Over Troubled Water
Say what you will about Elvis, the King was a very talented man!

BeetrootBertie: While I really enjoyed listening to original White Rabbit in the latest Matrix Resurrections trailer, I truly hoped it would end with Warrel's voice

That's reminded me that Nevermore did their thing on their cover of "Sound of Silence". Quite a more drastic change compared to Disturbed's version.
