NYCC had a Star Trek panel that had Lower Decks, SNW, Starfleet Academy and Section 31 onboard, was clear the Lower Decks panel would like to do more but who knows what'll happen, they showed the first episode to the audience and people at home didn't see that but they have uploaded a clip. Still very hmm about SA but it's been renewed for a second before even a trailer has appeared so they must be confident about it and the Section 31 panel actually made me think it's a possibility it'll turn out alright. SNW sounds like it's going to be great but that's pretty much expected.

I assumed Strange New Worlds would be out sometimes this year, seeing as they have been putting out trailers and clips for ages. It isn't until next year.
Hope Paramount+ do another year for £35 deal over Christmas (and that it isn't just for new subscribers).

A compilation of every complaint I've ever had about Picard/New Star Trek. Worth a watch if you have a spare 4 hours. Got around to finishing this, and my main takeaway (other than the fact I'll apparently happily sit and listen to people moan about stuff on youtube for 4 hours) is that the new Trek guys really wanted to make new Babylon 5, but they were stuck with Trek instead. But they seem to have missed the fundamental difference in tone and structure between B5 and Trek. And they also seem to be not very good, so they'd have screwed up B5 anyway. Plus Psi Corps >>> Section 31. Though star trek B5 exists. It's called Deep Space 9. Which is so much better than Picard it's hard to fathom.

Just started a full watch of TNG. Seen plenty of episodes before but I don't think I've ever done a complete run though
I was going to watch one of the newer series but decided I might as well go back as they all seem to have a mixed/poor response, other than the cartoon one, which doesn't appeal to me
Starts off a bit rough with stuff like the weird sex planet but I think it's suppose to take a little while to find its feet. Never really got the love for Picard as he has always seemed a bit cold and grumpy to me. Much prefer Sisko and Janeway. Hoping he'll grow on me more watching the whole thing
Interesting to see O'Brian briefly in the background early on without showing up as an actual character yet
Wesley's a bit annoying

I’ve been doing the same recently and up to season 6 now.
Season 1 and 2 are about 30% awful, 50% ok and the rest decent. Season 3 onwards picks up significantly but I think helps when you’ve endured some of those early episodes.
I’ve only skipped through a couple of episodes where they’ve been atrocious, a few have been fine as background watching but not much more. Picard does improve over time, he’s a bit of a dick at the start and seems to be angry with all his crew for a while.
Planning a DS9 and Voyager binge after this as I’ve probably only watched a couple of dozen episodes of both.

DS9 is the only one I've watched all the way through and I loved that. I've seen a fair bit of Voyager but not finished it so will probably do that next
I think Voyager was the current Trek when I was a nipper so I've always had a soft spot for it

Season 1 is mostly all a bit rubbish, with the odd glimpse of what it will become. Season 2 is also a lot of bad, but there are some stand out episodes that make it worth watching.
Seasons 3 and 4 are where it really peaks and you have a bunch of really good episodes, with the odd mediocre one. 5 through to 7 the mediocre ones start becoming more frequent, but by then you are mostly just happy hanging out with the characters, as well as the production is all very slick, so even the bad episodes have some enjoyment to be had.
Definitely get what you mean about Picard being a bit cold. I would go with Sisko personally as my favourite Commander/Captain, but TNG was my Trek when growing up (although it would have ended by the time I was really watching it), so I have a soft spot for Picard and the Enterprise-D crew.

Yeah DS9 is far more consistent and arguably the superior show in many ways than TNG but for me TNG is the purest essence of Star Trek.

TNG is the hippy dippy soul of Star Trek, DS9 is closer to what it would be if that soul encountered reality (i.e the rest of the galaxy).

The quality given the number of episodes is so high compared to now where you get 10 episodes every 12-18 months. I’ve no idea how they managed it in the past, even though there’s definitely some episodes where you can see they were cheap and easier to make (almost no effects and few sets). I just don’t get why it’s not done more now when volume of content is so desirable to the streaming services.
I’d rather have 25 episodes where a few are shit than 10 where there’s an overall plot that’s not great and still some episodes that are rubbish.

Yeah, even when Star Trek is bad, it's still at least entertaining. It's a fun show. The structure of it means that any weak storylines are generally kept to one episode, so it doesn't really impact on the whole. You never know what's coming next and there's no need for constant drama or cliff hangers
I like how they can't just add a viewing mode like Geordi's visor to the ship's viewer, so they have to send him to a different part of the ship to have a look out of a window whenever they want to scan something

Season 1 was much more in the vein of the original series. I'd agree that TNG is much more my idea of a pure star-trek show. Boldy going to strange new worlds each week.
It was a good show to watch at 6 o'clock while eating dinner.
---
I've had the discussion about episode counts before, and I'm always the other way around. I don't get how they can financially justify making all these 6-10 episode shows, where they must have to spend a fortune on design, sets, sfx, costumes, etc.. only to use it a handful of times. When old shows would get 22 episodes out of that stuff. (rewatched a bit of Tenth Kingdom recently, which was a 'mini-series' despite being 10 hours of tv - making it longer than most 'series' these days)

Season 1 (and 2?) is still under Roddenbury’s control with some of his unused scripts from the late 70s Phase 2 project, isn’t it?

The structure of it means that any weak storylines are generally kept to one episode, so it doesn't really impact on the whole. DS9 is still my favourite of all, but honestly this is one of its weaknesses, foreshadowing the issues of current Trek (if to a lesser amount). Late DS9, especially S7, has several arcs that I really wish they'd dropped after one episode.

Lower Decks S5 has been good so far.
Don't think Toby Huss has had a a Trek role before, nice to hear his voice.

Am I the only one that does this? After work, TOS is on the Legend channel. I get dinner started, set an alarm, and sit down and watch. At some point I get distracted, realise that the food meds playing up. Come back, hit play and think why am I watching MaGuyver? I am losing time.

That episode of TNG where a bunch of kids are abducted from the Enterprise annoyed me more than it should
You're all terrible people and are absolutely not good parent material

Damn, 30 years (although IMDB says it was out in '95 in the UK).
Like all TNG films, it isn't very good, but does hold a special place for me as it is when I became a full on Trekkie. Saw it when visiting family in Belfast. Went on a cinema trip with an aunt and cousin. We were supposed to see something else, but it was sold out (I want to say Homeward Bound, but the release dates don't match up - was something similar though). So, we got tickets for Generations instead as it was just starting, and my brothers and older cousins were seeing that.
7 year old me was totally blown away and loved it all. Don't remember hugely watching the film (other than the Nexus sequence and the opening), but I do remember excitedly recounting the plot to my mum afterwards. I had seen Trek before and liked it, but wasn't a dedicated watcher. After that though, I was there every 6pm BBC2 whenever it was on and would buy VHSs whenever I could.
Was just watching the trailer on IMDb and they really do just show the whole plot (including the Enterprise's warp core blowing up):

I really dont understand why they don't set a new series during the Enterprise B or C period. It's pretty much a blank canvas if you ignore memory beta.
Plus I have a soft spot for the Excelsior class and the burgundy uniforms with the turtle neck.

Though a bit like knowing Pike's ultimate fate you know what happens to the Enterprise C. But the general time period would be cool.
