It’s all lies Mrs Vortex, look in the back of the shed!! No. There's absolutely nothing to see at the back of the garage except some tools and junk. And it's, uh, messy and... Dangerous? So definitely don't look there or stay there too long.

Arse. Turns out the work scheme only covers £1k instead of the £5k I thought. Limits my options somewhat considering I was going to use it for accessories too. Suppose I can always apply for the full £1000 and just pony up the rest myself. They changed the rules so you can't top it up now, unless you find a friendly bike shop who'd accept cash for the difference maybe. I would ask accounts if you could use another scheme (can recommend Green Commute Initiative, no end payment and no limit) they are really easy to set up at the employer end, and they are just fobbing you off if they tell you otherwise.

First one back since late October this morning. Not sure jumping straight into a 60k is the wisest thing I've ever done, my legs were absolutely shot about 35k in. My gootch took it surprisingly well though.

Need to get a turbo trainer or indoor set up to keep you going through the winter Decks. It helps massively, now once it's warm enough I can just fire out as normal, as opposed to before when it'd take a while to get back into it.
Admittedly, I am not there just now as I am currently still struggling after my recent dose of 'rona. Did one zwift event two weeks back and had nothing in the tank at all, last week's was a bit better and I could give a decent-ish effort for the odd sprint, but staying in zone 2 for longer than about 5-10 mins was tough. Hopefully, this week will have a bit more fitness returning too.
This getting ill shit is annoying.

I've kind of fell into the pattern of just hammering weights at the gym in winter and then just building my cardio back up in spring. Only took a couple of rides last year to get it back.

And to be fair the cardio side felt pretty good, it was just my legs that were fucked. I had to push it up a hill at one point which was just the worst.

Whatever works best for you-I'm sort of the same tbh.
Gym 3x a week and 1 or two indoor cycles a week to maintain some semblance of cardio. I'd like it to warm up a wee bit more up here before I remove my real bike from the mothballs though!

Had a moment yesterday which will perhaps make me swallow my tongue: I was waiting at a junction, and a minivan wants to turn right, so flashes to let me out. As a I pull out in front he starts his turn, then toots at me. I flash the 'v's in return. I hear him stop and reverse, and he comes after me. 😬 Drives up alongside me and is saying something through the window, before he stops and gets out… 😬 …and he apologises and we shake on it! Still, a bit fucking weird.

Literally do t have a single ride without an angry car twat at some point. Had one a couple of weeks ago do the whole “you doan even pay road tax” bullshit for an added idiot bonus. Glad it worked out OK 👍

It’s weird the driver agro thing, I deal with it maybe once or twice a year while others apparently every ride somehow. I did have a bus driver who wanted a fight a few weeks back, he didn’t take kindly to my comments on his driving after cutting me up for a stop, that was funny

Ended up a chasse patate today behind either some old dude on an e-bike or a Lance Armstrong regen. Working very hard to go 20mph into a headwind while this dude stubbornly remains 50m ahead cruising effortlessly at 50rpm.

Halfway through a ride, some of which is on a cycle track along the Tyne. So I was going a long at a fair old pace and there was an old guy coming the other way. It took me a while to realise he was blind. So I was maybe 5 or 6 metres away from him and I thought it best to slow right down to give him plenty of space. Only it's pretty wet so my disc breaks let out a massive obnoxious honk and the poor guy nearly shit himself. I may as well have crept up behind him and blasted an air horn into his ear. I don't know who jumped higher him or his fucking dog. I did the only only thing I could and just kept peddling.
The good news is after after 5 rides I'm finally getting my pace back.

My pace is coming back after a fashion, still heavier than I want to be but my legs are beginning to look like they used to. 74.5kg now, aiming to get to 72 by the end of the month

Just finished a 70k there and the last 20 was extremely rough. Gootch still isn't were it needs to be.

Don't tell my wife, but I think I'm close to pulling the trigger on a cyclescheme gravel bike of some description.
Anyone got any views on a cannondale topstone 1 or 2 or ribble CGR shimano 105 variant probably, as it'll likely be mostly roads with some light track shit?
Neither bike brand are ones I've had before, but both seem to have reasonable bang for low-mid-range buck.

They’re v good to ride, friend had one. Not sure about mounting points etc so I’d check that if you want to mount bags etc and sleep like a hobo.

Likelihood of bike packing is minimal I guess, it's mostly just a fun, pick and go bike with a bit of summer work commuting on the side that I'm after, unlike the full lycra job of the mid-life crisis carbon one. It'll mostly be for 40-50k explorathons around country roads and tracks and with the odd run down to the shops etc.

Which is a bit more gravel/ bikepacking friendly (clearance for 650bs, more mounts etc). It's been fine anyway, it's my touring/ winter/ gravel bike now, very good vfm. They offer a 30 day trial, which could be quite handy.

Went out with a small group for the first time in years, I expected a bit of a noddy ride from what I knew about the club. Turned out to be a 100k i had to cling on to for grim death at a 30kph average. Just what I needed really, feel like I’m coming back to some sort of fitness

At the other end of the spectrum, I've had a relaxed 20km bimble out in the countryside after a gym session.
Saw a heron fishing in a stream, plus a load of lambs bouncing about like a bunch of dafties in some fields.
Would recomede.

I managed to do a measily flat 40km.
Had a rubbish 2 months where I've not done much exercise but I've been living lavishly with food... Felt a bit jiggly this morning and stood on the scales of truth...
I've put on bloody 8KG in 2 months and now up to 92Kg. My end goal was 80Kg........... lots of cycling needed and cutting out snacking.

Not 105 gearing in the end, since i fucked up the certificate value not expecting to pay delivery on top, so dropped to grx400. Specced up the wheelset a bit instead which will hopefully offset that.
