If I remember correctly I know elstoof isn't a fan of disc breaks on a road bike but I'm quite happy with how my bike looks now. Haven't actually ridden it yet though!

A Giant Revolt in what should be my size as just come in at my local LBS with a 105 set up. I’m really tempted by it. Been thinking about a second bike for winter for a couple of years now. I don’t really need it as winters down here aren’t too bad but it saves on wear and tear and was looking at something a bit more comfortable than my tcr on those really long rides. So it’d be more than a winter bike.
But I don’t know if I should just hold out for a defy. I got a romanticised view of cycling where I say I’m going to do this and that but I’m a creature of habit and most likely ever do club rides on it. I honestly don’t know how often I would take a revolt off road or bike packing. There’s lots of coastal path, woods and bridleways where I live so who knows it maybe something I end up really enjoying. Guess I could get another set of wheels for it.

Check the hangar is still straight and the inner and outer limits are correct. Despite supposedly “good” GRX and Ultegra mechs I still need to fiddle about four times a year to get things back to reasonable. Frayed cable!

Oh! I;’ve had that- it actually frayed and began to split right at the point where it met the outer, absolutely shagged shifting, couldn’t work it out for ages.

Happens to all shimano cables eventually. Best to replace them yearly

Where do we recommend to look online for second-hand bikes? I'm sure I used Bikesoup previously, but it was pretty limited (2018)

Broke out my new(ish) pair of rapha pro team shoes having finally been arsed to fit the cleats to them.
Liking them. Boa fit system is nice too. Certainly a step up from my scabby long-serving velcro closure pair!
New bike finally ordered too. Gonna be a painful wait for NBD, but only a months wait, so much better than the year or so it once was for some folks a while back!

How did you get on with sizing yourself up for a Canyon? It’s bad enough comparing geometry as it but canyon give you 99 more options. Makes my brain melt. Don’t they have weird seat post lengths or something? You ridden it yet? How are you finding it? I kind of settled on getting a revolt last week but looking at a couple of Facebook group’s I found through a Reddit post it seems there’s quite a few issues with the frame cracking at the top of the seat tube. This year they’ve gone for a d fuse seat post as usual but in a normal round hole to enable you to insert a dropper post (or 30.9 seat post). There’s a aluminium widget that sits in there when using the d fuse post and it seems something isn’t quite right as there’s seems to be more than the usual amount of people having issues. Not sure if it’s just a crack in the paint or the frame itself. So I might just leave it for now. Surprisingly the bike is still in stock so I might still go in and have a look/test ride next week on my day off.As a ridiculous high stack. 570mm for a small.

elstoof A Dolan tuono. Never heard of them until visiting friends who had a few of their bikes and the dolan bikes seemed pretty nice. Full carbon & they let you custom build most things. Not going absolutely nuts on groupset or wheelset, but have gone up from base on the wheels/tyres. It will be a massive upgrade on my old giant. I opted for tyres with tubes in the end, should maybe have gone tubeless, but i can change in time if i want. Hopefully, it's well worth the wait/expense!

Nice, Dolans are great. They’re absolutely massive in the track bike scene, you’re guaranteed to see a couple on any random visit to the velodrome. Wiggins used to ride them a lot

Not the OP, but I sized down from what their calculator told me (when it wasn't telling me my dimensions were incompatible). I used geometrygeeks.bike and bikeinsights.com/ to visualise the various dimensions

Thanks. Been using 99Spokes but bike insights seems more detailed- its a lot more zoomed in so can see the actual differences.

I'm 182cm with a 87cm inseam (if I remember correctly) and they recommended the medium. I've very little to compare it to but my old Hoy hybrid from years ago was Large and too big for me. Both my fixed gear and canyon are mediums and fit me much better. I don't think I could've went for a small. Had the actual bike almost a year now and zero complaints at all really. I'm sure the more discerning and experienced cyclist could give you some negatives but as a first road bike I've enjoyed every second that I've ridden it Edit: I'm 180cm with a 89 inseam and the medium fits quite well

Lovely bike, that! I ride a very similar-looking Canyon Ultimate SLX and love it. I wasn't a big fan of the VCLS seatpost or the feel of the integrated bars it came with so swapped those for some stiffer / lighter / less comfortable components and now it feels perfect.
It's almost annoying how good it is, as it's a few years old now and I can't see myself being able to justify a new bike any time soon.

Am keeping tabs on the updated Ultimate due soon, hoping this goes back to a threaded bb, could be my next bike if so.

I would prefer threaded too, but have also had 0 issues with the BB86. Get a decent BB press & removal tool and it's not really a big deal.

I've had no end of hassles with a PF30, really would prefer to avoid that standard at least.

I’ve got two bikes with it- one's the same, the other has had no issues for years. It’s a crap standard and completely dependent on manufacturing AND fitting accuracy. I like how neat it looks but I’ll take threads all day long.

Bit miffed: I paid a decent wedge at my L[-ish]BS to get my bike overhauled and serviced, and discovered on the ride back home that the rear derailleur is going to need fettling to get the shifting crisp, _and_ the handlebars aren't quite aligned with the front wheel.

Well Canyon is out for the next bike contender, they don't play ball with the cycle to work company I use. So, any suggestions for something Ultimate-like that isn't stupid expensive (Specialized/ Cervelo money)?

All the cool kids are buying Cannondale SystemSix these days. I guess a SuperSix would be closer to an Ultimate though.

They use PF30 now which at least gives you a chance of remedying an out of true shell with a screw together BB

Those Cannondales look nice, but not sure I'd want to own one. The Rose X-Lite looks OK, but Rose don't do the UK anymore, thanks to little Englanders, the absolute massive issue that is swapping brakes over for the UK market.
