2024- 0.7 games per Series S ☹️ Could well be! "Download disc 2 (and delete disc 1)"

Yeah, it's interesting that I'm not massively more enthused for FH5. It looks absolutely stunning, but then so did 3 and 4. And arguably 2 and 1 in their day. It's going to be an iteration on the theme of the most recent two, in a new locale. I'm not going to beat myself up about not completing all the content, I'm just going into this one as a fully casual dive in and out kind of experience without any real impetus to advance. Yeah these games rely on enough time between each one I think.

It being on gamepass means I will play it but I wouldn't of purchased it day one as its so similar. The devs need to be careful just iterating on the same game (as its so small in terms of changes)

All the footage i've seen so far is mainly based in the desert biome, which is a setting that bores the arse off me in all racing games. That and it is all a bit samey, but yeah i'll still give it a go 'cos it's on gamepass.

Mate will have it day one on GP so I guess I'll find out if it's the shove I need to fork out for a Series S

Spent a lot of time with 4 and have been really looking forward to this as it looks stunning but the wind has been well and truly taken out of my sails after reading it's more of the same. I suppose you could say that about most racing games though.

Didn’t they think of doing the Deep South at one point? That would be interesting. Driving through swampland.

I suppose you could say that about most racing games though. I spent an age with FH3 and loved it to bits. Then I bought FH4 and only probably played it for 10 hrs or so. It all just felt like I was retreading old ground. I will try FH5 due to gamepass, but I'm going in much more cautiously this time. Ubisoft get a lot of stick for the Far Cry Series, and rightly so, how each new one now just feels like a new skin. Well the Forza Horizon series is now exactly the same and should receive the same scrutiny.

Yeah that's true but how would you change it? It isn't obvious what you could do.

There seems to be very little coverage on the mutliplayer or how if anything has changed.
As others have said I prefer the setting in England and still have countless races to do in the last Horizon game. Despite the openworld setting and connecting so many drivers in freeroam, arranging races or even just finding players has felt like a pain.

I didn't play much online but someone earlier in the thread mentioned progression in unlocking cars might help. I used to like the investment relative to progress.

4 was my first as I dudnt do consoles, I think 3 2as on Windows as well but Aus didn't appeal.
Rinsed the hell out of 4 but can see how "4, but on a different map" is less appealing.
On the consoles it can be justified with next gen graphics but on pc I bet the difference between 4 at max settings and 5 at the same will be much smaller than between xbone and series s/x.

arranging races or even just finding players has felt like a pain. To me this is a side-effect of fragmenting the game into ever smaller game modes. In FH2 you could arrange the group adventures where you'd go storming across the map from one race to another. In 4, suddenly the adventures were split into Ranked/Unranked; the Eliminator thing arrived at some point; you've got the Forzathon events; the ability to start a race from any existing location et al.

Totally, all the adventure modes were fine and dandy but that was kind of it. Its a arcade style game, but when the map is so great I don't always want to play car football or just race hypercars going 300mph.
Forza 4 had a pretty brilliant recreation of Edinburgh, Lake District and everything else.. But if you wanted to have a quick race in C class cars down the royal mile channeling some Project Gotham 2, there wasn't any real way to do it. Considering the amount of options and content, it just seems like a strange oversight.

Ditch the god damn awful "festival" and cringe characters, that would be a good start.
Streamline the whole thing, I dont want to drive miles to my next event, I just want to get into the race.
Get rid of the cookie clutter map and bring back some sense of progression. I couldnt care less about the car unlocks when each new car is worse than one i unlocked hours before.
Actually, just give me an old school Burnout game.

so Forza Motorsport, then? I dont do Sim racers, only arcade racers. If I wanted a simulation of driving a car, I would.....just get in my car and drive.

I don't get why people that want linear progression of cars don't just use all E class for the first round of races, then D class and so on. There is nothing stopping you except your own self control.

Kind of hard to resist when they hand them out so readily.
This time around you get free versions of the cover cars from any previous Forza games you've played, so will have a 2017 Ford GT etc straight away. Plus you get to keep the cover cars for this one after using them in the opening mission.

Isn't the whole point of the series being a power fantasy with driving supercars and whatnot however you like. If you want some progression then yeah okay do Forza Motorsport.

I sort of feel like reviews are pointless for this one, good as they're all saying it is. It's building on a hugely successful series that have all been good, it's looked great every time it's been seen, and 90% of people are going to be playing it for "free" anyway.

Yeah I couldn't care less about reviews. This is one of the most fun racer series I've played since Burnout. I doubt it'll disappoint.

Caved in and got the premium upgrade pack. Think I'll be making a quick trip to NZ on my lunch break!

Yeah, I picked that up as well. I might visit NZ after work, I don't think a lunch break is long enough to get there and back.

Just read the EG review which seems very fair. I will play this (because Gamepass) and it’s great that they’ve done a good job for us humble Series S owners, but Oli’s comments about the lack of structure and icon overload on the map definitely ring true for my experience of FH4.
It’s just too easy to feel overloaded and lacking in any structure and direction for what to do next, just because there is SO MUCH to do next. I was enjoying the stunt driver story and then just seemed to lose my way and not know where to go next…
That’s not really a big complaint though. I’m sure it’ll be great fun and maybe a fresh start will draw me back in.

I agree, I feel I've scratched the surface of FH4 and I love spending time in a recreation of Britain - especially as it's "my" bit of Britain, basically just the north and Scotland (aka "the good bits"). But it is a bit overwhelming.
Maybe it's just me and the way I play games, but I like a dilineation between "campaign" and "side-quests". I felt FH2 had this quite nicely, where I understood what the "story" was so to speak, progressing through the different types of races. With FH3 and 4 it's all felt quite open and just picking whatever race or event, which is great in one way, but I like to follow a path knowing I can veer off at any point.
What I'd love in FH6 is if there was a "career mode" with a definite route of progression, and you could filter the map to only show the "career route" so to speak. I think this would give people who want one a bit of structure, whilst not closing off any of the open and supplementary stuff, which is obviously Horizon's bread and butter.
Anyway! Looking forward to playing this one as soon as I can.

Thoroughly looking forward to this. I didn’t play much of 4 as I had no real desire to spend my time driving around this shitheap, but Mexico looks rather appealing.
Bring on the sexy driving times.

But first week in a new job and a coworker is on my friends list so probably not the wisest move. Will nip down in a moment and change region at least so I'm ready to go.
