It's basically Entourage. In as much that there's a central character that everything revolves around, yes. But not much else imo. Yeah that's surely an extremely superficial comparison. Pretty misleading as shorthand. Entourage was about a young man from the NY suburbs making it in Hollywood, having loads of doors suddenly open and living a life of total excess and privilege whilst his mates and brother sponged off him. Maisel is about a young mother from Manhattan having a minor breakdown after finding out her husband is cheating and accidently discovering a genuine talent for stand-up. As this is the conservative 50s, she is doubted by everyone except her manager and has to maintain at least the pretence and appearance of a normal family life. I loved both shows but Entourage was basically a teenage boys w*nk fantasy about getting rich and having threesomes. Had some great lines and very funny moments mind you. Maisel is a lot more sophisticated. The period setting is really believable and the dialogue, characterisation and performances are just on a different level.

Ah, my bad.
Talking of Amazon, I stumbled across the Pluto TV app on Xbox the other day. It looks to be most of the films from the shitty end of the genre lists, Syfy channel rejects and c-movies. There's some ok stuff on there if you can be bothered to look for it though.

Got FreeVeeeeeee working again, but good god there's no good way to browse it or search it. There's some decent stuff on there, but you need to be lucky to stumble across it. Or find it again.

Pluto allows me to wallow in youthful memories.
Baywatch, Jump Street, Happy Days, Dr Who, Twilight Zone, MacGyver, Married with Children etc.

But not much else imo. you've got a star(lette) a manager, and recurring love interest who is as annoying as hell, lots of career successes and setbacks, a career nemesis... I could go on. I mean it as no criticism, entourage is one of mine and the Mrs favourite TV shows.

brokenkey that's the same for lots and lots of shows though. There's rarely new ideas - what is new with Maisel is the period and set up for the time. Loved Entourage too but mostly for the vicarious living. Maisel has layers more depth imo. Moar Maisel imo.

What is going on with the bond stuff? They have just bought the rights, put them on for free in barely hd instead of 4k and now they are removing them?

Because they're cunts.

It’s possible they won’t go, they did the same with Justified recently where it said it was leaving and then it didn’t.
But still, Amazon and Bezos are cunts.

Not seen much in the way of sources for Bond coming off Prime already, am I missing something?

Not seen much in the way of sources for Bond coming off Prime already, am I missing something? There's a 'gone within 30 days' section in Prime and they're in there.

Anybody else watching Terminal List?
I'm up to episode 4 but so far it's brilliant even though it's treading a familiar formula.

Sell it to me, as the trailer made it look like some incredibly generic soldier wank fantasy.

Captain of unit deployed when mission goes to shit and he's one of 2 to return.
Heavily concussed and unsure of actual events plus outside manipulation to skew said events to paint him as delusional.
Eventually they come for his family and he decides to create a terminal list of people to hit as payback while slowly uncovering more and more of the conspiracy.
As I said, well trodden but the action and combat scenes are very well done, Mexico and downtown SF in particular
Very very good and one of the people he just took out was satisfying as fuck.
Tried to keep it as vague as poss to not spoil anything

As much as anything, it's a terrible title. Just makes me think of some poor person with a terminal illness.

Everything else he's been involved with has been pretty average. I have a high tolerance for mindless action but it's hard to care about anyone. It's got a Deathwish vibe that feels a bit dated.

I'm not getting the mindless action angle at all (maybe once scene in Mexico), it seems to be very much a mashup of bourne, 13 hours soldiers Benghazi, angel has fallen etc
Definately liking the format of stretching a film out over a series of episodes

The first few episodes were very good, hinted at being not the usual shooty shoot stuff, but by the end there's bullets and bodies everywhere.

Terminal List got some horrendous reviews, 1/10 stuff, which I’m glad I didn’t see beforehand as I’m enjoying it so far. Couple of ropy moments and it’s a little Tom Clancyesque in some ways.
But on the whole, decent I think

Yeah, saw one of the 1/10 reviews and decided to skip it, then saw the recommendation here and had a quick look at IMDB episode ratings... Might have to watch it for myself to find out.

Bah, Prime membership going up by £1/month or £16/year. The yearly option only saves 88p now so time to move it to the rotating subscriptions pile.

Just saw that, up 1 euro a month for me.
Still I think it is good value for money when compared to the others. Next day and sometimes same day delivery are a lifesaver and just about justify it alone. If today wasn't a random day off for me I'd be fucked but have a bunch of stationary coming ready for tomorrow.

I'll probably switch to monthly at renewal next June. £95 is too big a chunk of change to save £12.

Inspired by Squid Game, I'm watching Battle Royale on Prime Movies. It's "free with ads". And after 20 minutes and two 40-second ad breaks which were about as intrusive as they could possibly be, I'm very close to buying the 99p ad-free version. A lot of these steaming services use intrusive ads, fuck that, I don't want to watch an even shitter ITV. Realise this is from the wayback machine, but I am bored

rob - You might as well switch now in case you forget. Or just cancel and let it run out and decide if you want to sub again in June. I've let mine lapse as I rarely actually need anything next day, and if I do I can just order it elsewhere. They seem to throw £1 weekly trials at me all the time, so can always just grab one of those if I need anything urgently/want to binge a show.

I found Amazon’s free with ads not too bad during my Babylon 5 watch but then all the ads were in the places they would have been during the original broadcast. Only they were 30 seconds or less long instead 4 minutes long (or longer All4 and ITVHub)
