With Reacher you have to turn your incredulity detector to minimum but in the latest episode is getting even more difficult a truck full of high explosive missiles just drives off into the distance with no additional escort or even a co-driver and the very end of the episode was far too predictable in how it was shot. I'm really not enjoying this season as much as the first.

Wheel of Time S2 is more of the same, I guess. To start with, about one third is dog shit, about one third is poor, and about one third is good. Usually linked to whether Rosamund Pike and a very few others are onscreen or not. As the season goes on all of these segments improve to the point where it's just about worthwhile to have watched it all. Really awkward to measure. If you like the start you'll probably like it all, if you don't like the start, well you still might like it by the end. The ultimate YMMV.

Oh yuck...
An update on Prime Video Dear Prime member,
We are writing to you today about an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting February 5, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than ad-supported TV channels and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional £2.99 per month* that you can sign up for here.

I haven’t had the email yet, does it say anything about refunds? I read they will pro-rata yearly subs if people cancel because of this change.

No mention on refunds but it sounds like you can get the sub back for what’s left.
The email is just bigging them up and oh yeah fuck you subscriber we want another £2.99 a month.

Yeah, that's been the case with Prime cancellations for a while. It'll give you the option of ending on the last day, or you can get a refund for the remaining days. Even offers it when you've signed up for a 99p weekly trial and go to cancel.

Oh nice, didn't know that. We don't really watch enough Prime or order enough shit from Amazon to justify the cost anyway so this seems like a good opportunity to get rid. How do non-Prime deliveries even work? Do you have to pay, or do they just take longer?

I think there's an order limit of £20 before you get free shipping, and yeah delivery is usually estimated as a few days later (but often arrives the next day for me anyway)

Its a weird one. Because I'm a shut in, 'free' delivery is why I took out prime and why I keep it. Prime Music was nice but then they made it unusable but I never really used it. They made the free magazines worse, but I never really used them. Prime was nice and then they made it shit but I do actually use it quite a lot.
Does it a bolt on changing make me cancel? Maybe, which is bad business for them as I would have kept my account chugging on if I had never had Prime Video in the first place.
I dunno. Give me a Prime Prime. A cheaper version that lets me opt out of the shit I never use and just get have the delivery.

It certainly needs more options of what you're getting, everything for one price when you may not want some aspects is okay when the price isn't too high but they've bumped up Prime to the level now that it's getting to be at the maybe not bother stage.

Be nice if they could inform the consumer what these ads will actually entail.
3 minutes of ads before the show/film starts but no interruptions during it? I can live with that.
Couple of minutes in the middle? Frustrating but more palatable than multiple interruptions.
4 1 minute ads during an hour long programme? That I'd find very annoying.

The ads start in North America the week before here so we will get an idea of what to expect, why they can't be more upfront is a mystery.
Well not that much of a mystery, they don't want people pre-emptively cancelling.

If its anything like Freevee its any or all of those options and you’ll not be able to guess which before you start watching

So, according to my prime statement:
117 - Packages shipped at no extra cost with Prime Delivery
933 - Movies and TV shows watched with Prime Video
70 - Songs listened to with Amazon Music Prime (100% the mrs asking Alexa to 'play Christmas music')
No books read, games played, podcasts listened to or photos stored and printed. Im averaging two parcels a week, so that's not bad and its a decent chunk of TV, though, but I suspect 900 of those are the mrs watching Big Bang theory on a loop.

Didn't know there was a Prime Statement! Much like Nick, I use it mostly for delivery as loads of other places charge extra for delivering here. And the subscribe and save does save quite a bit.
Be good to know if ad-blocker/pi-hole works. Think my sub runs out in August so have time to make a decision.

Its really sad. I buy a fair bit of vinyl online and I hate myself for always using them but they do auto rip and free delivery. I would love to support indy record shops but even when they have sales on, delivery *always* bumps it over getting it next day from amazon.

On the plus side, I now give the CCP all my data by buying the marketplace tat from Temu instead at a fraction of the cost. Needs must and all that.

I'm:
75 - Packages shipped at no extra cost with Prime Delivery
0 - Movies and TV shows watched with Prime Video
0 - Songs listened to with Amazon Music Prime
I actually thought it would be more packages than that.

151 packages 379 tv and film (mostly The US Office I suspect) 1842 songs (because I had a 3 month free sub)

Be good to know if ad-blocker/pi-hole works. Think my sub runs out in August so have time to make a decision. I'd assume the adverts will be served directly from Amazon themselves so it maybe tricky to block. If someone could make an extension similar to how YouTube Enhancer blocks YT ads that would at least mean my PC would be okay, I tend to watch most Amazon stuff that way. NA getting it first should mean we get some idea if it's blockable in advance at least.

How do you get to that Prime Statement? I can't find it.
Now I'm mostly working from home, next-day delivery isn't that much of a big deal as chances are someone will be in when they deliver. I used to listen to Prime Music quite a lot as I'm not a big music listener and it made an acceptable poor-man's Spotify substitute. Then they made it terrible and I ended up keeping Apple Music after a free trial. I've got a significant Kindle backlog to get through and the free books rarely seem worth reading. So the handful of Prime shows and movies I watch are the only real reason to keep it and now they're making that shit too.
They've gone from a handful of mediocre services that wouldn't be worth paying for individually but collectively added up to being just about worth the price of entry to a bunch of crap with practically no value whatsoever.

Hmmm I'm down to 4 deliveries but 150 TVs/Movies watched...
One of those deliveries was a Black Friday i7 CPU which I got a chair leg and they've still not refunded me the money as they lost the fucking return package in their warehouse.

We are the outliers and have the video only Prime sub for, I think, 5.99 a month as we don't buy enough to justify delivery extra cost (and what we do buy is over £20 and free shipping anyway). This ad stuff may lead to cancellation though. See also, Disney doing similar shit.

125 packages and 2182 movies / shows.
Am I allowed to go against the grain and say I'm happy with Prime, and will probably pay the extra for ad-free? One of the reasons we use it so much is it's the only major service on Virgin Tivo V6 boxes, so it's just that bit more convenient than the Firestick.
I have at least started buying some of my books from an independent bookshop my sister lives near, who wrap them nicely and send a lovely hand-written card (I'd rather save the money TBH...)

The music is good if you use their echo speakers. We have one in the kitchen/office. You can connect Spotify to it but you have to say additional things to make it work.
