Ok I'll be the guinea pig for the MGS Collection. I think it's a bit similar to the Silent Hill Collection, but perhaps not as bad. They're still great games, and absolutely playable. There's value in it for me as I'd like to get all the trophies, especially in MGS1.

Like I said they're still absolutely playable, and I can't really tell whilst playing MGS2 that there's a major difference to the HD Collection. I think my major annoyance, which they still haven't addressed is the button press for holstering the gun, which is an L3 press.. isn't great.

With Konami continuing to ransack their back catalogue and Metal Gear and Castlevania out of the way, surely it's Silent Hill's turn next.
With the terrible backlash to the last 'attempt' at re-releasing anything Silent Hill I'd hope they'd be more careful this time. It's a pretty low bar to clear, with some of the early games into the three figure range on the resale market, even a bare bones presentation of the first three or four games would be attractive just on a value proposition.
They'd win extra points with fans if they actually treated stuff like the NTSC US and PAL versions of Silent Hill as distinct versions of the game and included both so that fans can try both out, or stick with their preferred version.

A friend of mine complained that on Switch, when going from portable play to the TV, the resolution would not refresh to 1080p. I didn’t realise all versions of the game were running at 720p. At least I can tell him it’s not actually a bug. Haha
I’m still tempted by the 2 MSX games, though.

I was reading into why the Cowabunga Collection was so good, and it was Digital Eclipse who developed it, and they have made their own engine. Is it that surprising that Konami are pumping out shoddy remasters. Their dev studio wing must be nothing compared to what it was.

M2 did the MGS conversion, they do good stuff. I don't think it's the development teams, it's Konami's tight fisted way of doing business.

Yeah, M2 always seem to be thorough and treat the games they're working on with respect.
Their Sega Ages releases on the PS2 are the gold standard. Galaxy Force II? Here you go. Original flavour, also have a neo version with some improvements. Also have the Megadrive and Master System versions, whatever version of Galaxy Force II you played it's right here, reproduced with nothing messed around with and you can have the neo version as an extra.
We'd be very fortunate if Konami got M2 to do the Silent Hill games, I wouldn't expect anything super fancy in terms of replacing graphics, but some of us don't want clueless mongs ripping out the original assets and just replacing them with totally different assets they think are better as Bluepoint did to Demon's Souls.

I'm playing through MGS1 for perhaps the first time in 15 years. I'm so used to playing the others, so having auto run everywhere is a nightmare. I played through Twin Snakes a few years back, and that was too easy with the quality of life improvements. It would have been if they had found a way to introduce walking into this. Everything else I'm alright with, but the amount of times I've triggered a camera by mistake..

Anyone seen any news on this MGS2 patch? Read that the cutscenes suffer loads of slowdown etc, I badly want to play it after smashing MGS twice but want to experience it properly. Been two weeks, hurry up!

Digital Foundry mentioned the slow motion cutscenes, which remain at 15fps because of how they were made. Do you mean those?

Yeah I think so, Eurogamer did an article about the patch and mentioned "severe slowdown in cutscenes" in MGS2 or something along those lines, and that it was the biggest thing to be addressed across all the games...!

Crazy how they managed it on the base Genesis without Mode 7.

Wasn't that a Ubisoft game? I dread to think of what they'd do with it these days...

They published it but the dev wasn't part of Ubisoft.

That arena mode, which was a bit like Destruction Derby, was amazing. I think that was exclusive to the PlayStation version, but it alone was worth paying for!

Are the remaster images the ones on the right in each pair? Because if so... that looks worse than the original to me Not that the reverse would be that much more flattering tbh, but still...

I did read in the article I posted on the other thread about they were adding some additional content to the game. Not sure if that's BS.
"The listing also said there’s a new treasure hunt across the planet revealing details about jades past which is exciting. I actually thought when this leaked it would be a straight port of the hd remaster so them putting actual work into this and having new content is very welcome."

Isn't that suppose to be part of the Deus Ex or System Shock universe or have I made that up?

Actually I think Deus Ex and System Shock are anyway, or were suppose to be. Think I read JC was suppose to become Shodan
