It's NOT the best films made, it's ones that mean the most to you. In the same way packet stuffing, gravy, sausages, and Yorkshire puds isn't the best meal but it's a favourite.
Original Planet of the Apes (mum loved it - I do too. We watched it so many times).
Weird Science (my sister and I occasionally bounce quotes from it off each other - we watched it together about a month ago again for the first time in maybe 25 years, trashy fun).
Back to the Future (some sentimentality, it is tighter than a mermaids brazier though - classic), but really I remember seeing it in the cinema with mum and sisters and the trailer at the end for both parts 2&3 were shown immediately after. I was so excited. The car was flying!
Ferris Beuller (spelling?). On repeat once we had a VHS player.
Nostalgia thread then.
Terrorvision - Google how bad that was. But it was taboo and I was about 12.

Amelie is up there, as is most of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's catalog.
The Godfather might be no. 1.
Raging Bull.
In the Mood For Love, and everything Wong Kar-Wai does.
And top it off with Coming to America.

And top it off with Coming to America. Amelie is bloody lovely and also evokes positive nostalgia for the time I first saw it. By proxy now on my list.

2001. Stone cold.
Terminator 2. Thought it was badass when I was 14 or so, but when I was young I also liked Jurassic Park, Independence Day and whatnot. Terminator 2 is the one that withstood the test of time, I can watch it today and still marvel at how fucking brilliant it is.
Life of Brian, Holy Grail, Jabberwocky. No matter how often I watch them, they still put a smile on my face.

Magnolia Introduced me to several things I still love: Paul Thomas Anderson, Aimee Mann's music, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and long ass movies about how your parents fuck you up.
The best Tom Cruise performance.
There's a bit where all the cast start singing for no obvious reason other than mood.
It's pretentious and overreaching, with an over the top performance from Julianne Moore that shouldn't work but does. It's great.

The Abyss - absolutely blew my mind watching it as a kid. Effects, action, submarine bumper-car chase scene, it had everything an 11 year old could wish for.
Desperado - Top quality action film, teenage me quite appreciated Selma Hayek too.
Alladin - best Disney film, RIP Robin Williams
Memento - probably hasn't stood the test of time to be honest, but it's one of those films where you feel a bit clever for understanding it.
Labyrinth- it's a cult classic for a reason. The scene in a tunnel with approaching knives gave me nightmares but I still watched it every chance I got.
Delicatessen - haven't actually seen it in years, but I remember it having some great characters, music and moments. Plus it's French so you get to feel a bit cultured recommending it.
District 13 / Banlieue 13 - "that parkour movie", just does its thing, but does it extremely well.
Edit- hadn't twigged that Delicatessen was by the Amelie guy but it should have been obvious in hindsight. Amelie is also very much on the list.
Also thinking of foreign language films I remembered another:
City of God - fucking fantastic and chilling

Two films that I watched with my dad when I was a kid, both still amazing:
Duel - Spielberg's first film, about a faceless homicidal truck driver stalking a traveling salesman through rural America. Just so tense, and the film that got Spielberg noticed and led to, well, everything that followed.
The Boys from Brazil - just an amazing cast: Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, James Mason, and an early appearance for Steve Gutenberg. Nazi Hunter Ezra Lieberman (Olivier) on the trail of insane Nazi madman Josef Mengele (Peck)

"I'm going to dropkick your fucking dog" is probably the best Tom Cruise line in any film ever. This film gets nowhere near enough love. Read a great article how it was written to fit the Aimee Mann soundtrack, not the other way around. /Goes to check it there's a 4K HDR release

Is it really that good? I still haven't seen it because I love the original so much and I'm scared It is the perfect sequel and doesn't tarnish the original at all. It's incredible that you love the original but haven't seen this. If you have the tech it's also one of the best examples of a 4K HDR release you can buy.

Aside from a few minor caveats mostly involving Jared Leto, I can't imagine a better sequel. It was absolutely storming on a huge screen with massive sound. It is inevitably diminished via home viewing.

Personally, I didn't like it all, which is why I'm wary of the new Dune. Also, not a fan of that Chalomet kid.
