Is it worth playing for the LOLs? For 'free' on GP, I would say yes. The core game is still pretty good and the bugs are actually pretty funny. If we arent getting a remake, this piece of shit is actually not a bad alternative. It probably is so bad its good. |

I watched a bit of the GTA3 one yesterday, 38 minute video just for that game alone. I know DF like to be exhaustive, but a quick 10min video just to say "this is shit, and here's why" would have sufficed. Yeah I was getting fed up of the video after 20 minutes; It was painful to watch. I do really enjoy DF content, but in this case they could have covered all 3 games in 40 minutes. It would have been nice to establish up-front if any of the 3 games are worth playing, and save everyone some time. They could have then done 3 further videos covering each game more extensively, if they really thought it was worth it. Not really the DF style. The thing is their videos are not reviews, they are full on breakdowns to showcase how well games run technically across various platforms. They might interject with some commentary on whether they feel the game itself is good or not but that’s of distant secondary importance. |

It’s a shame there are still no good GTA alternatives. Saints Row is probably the closest and I’m not a big fan.

Yeah, I've just finished watching. It was savage by their standards. I was unaware the Switch was that bad, I mean it's a fucking trainwreck. The more you dig into the crazier it gets, like the developer developed the original mobile version under a different name. That this is game is confirmed to be using the mobile version as a base. And the inability for a basic looking game not being able to run at 60fps on next gen consoles that can run stuff like Spiderman with ray tracing at 60fps. The sadly funny thing is that homebrew coders, without access to the source code, successfully reverse engineered and ported the original GTA3 to the Switch last year. And it looked pretty good. At the time, some people complained that Rockstar was "leaving money on the ground" by not porting the GTA3 trilogy themselves. |

I think GTA3 is free with PS Now? Might be worth giving the free trial a go if you're curious.
They're keeping Vice City purchase only though since they know that's the one everybody wanted.

The alternative is to just play the originals. During the DF analysis I was surprised at how often I preferred the PS2 version. It's sometimes soupy and smudgy but I prefer the tones which do more for the presentation than the dialed up contrast and detail in the definitive version, those colour casts and subtle tonal palettes hid a multitude of sins.
One thing is very apparent, the 'low-tech' solution can sometimes be the more visually pleasing one.
I think the future will be via PS2 emulation, the original game data with resolution and frame rate bumps, though there is a lot of work still to be done in getting the feel right. To this day I've yet to play an N64 game via emulation that looks like it did originally on a CRT and that puts me in mind of the PS2 GTA games where numerous visual compromises became part of the game's character.

Surely the SR3 remaster would've been a piece of piss to make compared to this? They already had a perfectly fine PC version as a starting point. It was a bloody good job regardless.
With this trilogy they had fairly wonky mobile ports to start off with and lifted and shifted them into a totally different engine.
That almost sounds like I'm defending GSG/Rockstar/Take 2 but fuck that! There's really no excusing the lack of effort they put into this.

I have to know if that was a typo or if you think GTA Vice City is GTA3 two and GTA San An is GTA3 three ?  Heh yeah I meant the GTA3 analysis video. Though technically you're right, in that those games are GTA3 spin-offs in a way. |

Saints Row 3 remaster is really good
Been playing GTA SA shite edition on gamepass and its the only main one I never completed (as it when it released it was my final year of university and didn't have time. Then year later I started it and didn't finish as not sure why, maybe it was too bloated of a game (which is what I finding now)
Such an old game really needed a proper remaster and not sure if the crappy devs added more bugs and glitches. Some missions are frustrating mess as the AI will melt your armour and health in seconds (the shitty jetpack levels are a mess of crappy controls and game design - you are trying to shoot and you lock onto random npcs) The army base and the enemy either run into fence trying to get to you or can shoot you from the other side of the army base. Awful flying controls and "shitty" improved gun combat
back in the day I enjoyed GTA 3 and VC, I don't think those games will be as frustrating as rockstar was pushing the game engine when they did SA all those years ago (although I remember 3 and VC had some horrible difficulty spikes) Such a shame these games were handed to a studio that had produced utter shit in the past, its not like Grove shit games were doing these "remaster" by them self as there was support studios helping (creating new textures with typos and even just replacing the old art eg the dig against those ps2 era true crime games with some stretched out clip art)

Yeah, it was the last "normal" one before they went a bit mad with the superpower stuff. 4 and GooH were still great fun, though. Think I'll end up spending the money I would've spent on this on the next SR game if it reviews decently. |

Apparently its from the mobile version the studio shat out (as phones can't do that effect very well or more like the studio have fuck all skill and talent) That rain effect made me ill when trying to do the quad bike chase. Modders on PC fixed it in a few days which says a lot about GSG (no doubt they high dived into their beans with their fish fingers for tea) |
