That's not GTA, GTA 2 and GTA London.

No footage suggests a spit & polish job. Great memories at the time (well, the first two), but I'm long since over this series. If they'd remade wither of the first two I'd probably have bitten.

That's not GTA, GTA 2 and GTA London. Criminal that they've forgotten all about London. A modern GTA set in London might be even more exciting than a new Vice City.

I’d be up for another spin around Vice City but I’m not sure I’d be so into the other two.

Incredible trailer really got my hyped. Love the way it told us absolutely nothing about what it is, what games are actually included, what they look like, what upgrades there are, how much it costs or even roughly when it releases.
Rockstar are really on fire considering their "here's GTA5 on next gen" trailer this summer basically looked identical to the last gen version and again, didn't actually say anything about what we're paying for.

I'm confused. "Original Trilogy"? Did they fucking forget the series didn't start with GTA3? I'd only play Vice City again out of these 3. San Andreas in particular was pish. That's not GTA, GTA 2 and GTA London. Exactly this. Remake these and we're talking!

It would take something pretty special to make me want to pick it up.
Given that it's modern day Rockstar it'll be some lazy ports, probably based on the mobile versions, just higher rez with microtransactions.
All that said, I do feel a pang of nostalgia if the gameplay is made a bit more modern I'd be tempted to give them another go - GTA3 and VC in particular feel pretty clunky to play nowadays. San Andreas feels a bit more modern with it's actual aiming, but is the least interesting of the three games.
If it's cheap I might pick it up I guess. (It won't be cheap, I refer back to my modern day Rockstar remark)

drhickman1983They've been built in UE IIRC, so definitely more than a copy pasta of the the mobile versions. The thing is if they're too true to the originals then I probably won't bite. There are so many small and large QoL changes the games could do with.

Assuming it's the same base game underneath with a lick of paint rather than an actual remake. Highly doubt rockstar have the bandwidth to do a full rebuild from scratch of 3 whole games. My expectation is it's an Unreal Engine wrapper for the original game code to give it better controls/lighting with some redone textures etc and a higher framerate on newer consoles - especially as it's for Switch/Mobile too.

As long as they're not a complete shitshow then it's day one for me, I look forward to recreating my bike ride from Los Santos to Las Venturas via San Fierro. It took fucking forever on PS2 but I'll have to do it again.

From the old place:
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, to give the release its full name, will arrive for PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC at some point "later this year", with an iOS and Android launch due in the first half of 2022.
Rockstar promises "across-the-board upgrades" for GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas as part of the new release, and while it's currently remaining coy on specifics, all three titles will feature "graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements... while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals." More will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Surprised there’s much love for GTA2 and London. To my mind, they were both utter wank. Loved the original on PC though.
Would be happy to give GTA3 a chance for nostalgia, but no real interest in San Andreas. Vice City is the only draw, but less for the gameplay and missions, mainly for simply cruising about with the radio on.

I liked London, didn't like GTA2, the changes in GTA2 just didn't work for me.

Yeah. San An is probably my favourite. I would happily pay full whack for a modern remake of that.

'Remake' suggest a lot more work than would be feasible, plus there's the amount of stuff that's going to be changed, I don't think these 'Remakes' are going to make anybody particularly happy.
Missing music will be one thing but they'll probably take a hatchet to various things to avoid offending progressive puritans, certain missions may be going bye bye, spree killing prostitutes and vehicular homicide is one thing, but riding around on a moped called a 'Faggio' is probably not happening.

Than would be feasible?
They could remake the 3 from the ground up and still make a shitload of money as they release it across the next several gens.

I didn't play London but really liked the original game on PC (the PS1 version suffered from its lack of RAM) but agree that 2 just wasn't interesting especially in the multiplayer which was less chaotic than the original game's.

Than would be feasible? They could remake the 3 from the ground up and still make a shitload of money as they release it across the next several gens. Remake suggests updating things like models, then that leads to replacing animations for scores of characters across three games since upgrading models whilst leaving the animations isn't going to look great. Rockstar's animation wasn't the best, in games as late as Red Dead Redemption it was still on the janky side. Then there's all the vehicle models, all the buildings, GTA 3 in particular wasn't churned out by a tool every single street was tailor made and actually unique. It suggests a workload not typical of releases of this type. These type of releases are generally low budget, quick turnaround affairs.
If they leave stuff untouched it would be called a HD Remaster, this isn't Shadow of the Colossus replacing all the assets as 'Remake' suggests in three 3D GTA games is a massive undertaking.

I’d only want to play Vice City again but not that bothered either way. GTA aren’t games that you exactly enjoy, more endure
Chinatown Wars was my next favourite after Vice City, I’d play a new version of that

GTA v sold 150 million copies, they can pretty much do what they want and still recover their money. If they will or not is a different question.

I hope they have the original music. No point playing Vice City if we can't ride motorbikes up the beach in the dark to Broken Wings.
