A shop near me has the Hive Tyrant kit for €30. I'm tempted, but don't really have time to paint these days.
Is it worth it? I'm not up to date on how much it'd go for through sellers other than GW

A shop near me has the Hive Tyrant kit for €30. I'm tempted, but don't really have time to paint these days. Is it worth it? I'm not up to date on how much it'd go for through sellers other than GW It’s a great model - and it goes for thirty quid at the indies over this side of the pond. Not sure of current exchange rate but that’s definitely a discount from GW. You might be surprised at how small it is as Hive Tyrant or Swarmlord but it’s a proper centrepiece as a winged variant and one of my very favourite models. You can also order a resin torso and build one of the other variants. Pics of all of this including a painted Flyrant are on here from me somewhere. If you get it and would like to paint it in any colour with a bone sort of colour flesh, just spray it with wraithbone spray and use a pink or purple contrast thinned with contrast medium as a wash. Some strategic building up of raised areas with one pass of wraithbone from the pot will then sort out a large part of the model - that’s all I do for mine. The work on that model was in the wings and weapons, for which I can provide tips too if you want to save time and not have to experiment.

I’ll be picking up the big sisters box next week if I can. Need jump troops (only have the two (unbuilt) squads of monopose seraphim so this box will give me a decent couple of squads of those once mixed and a unit or two of zephyrim).

I think I’m doing Sisters and Orks next after I finish 3K of Nids and Marines. Something just clicked where I decided I really loved the Sisters after never being particularly bothered by them. Think they have an amazingly gothic look and I love the walkers and the horrific stuff about them. Not sure on the big box but I’m going to definitely snag the newer CP which I think fits well with the old. @blue_Mike cheers for the heads up, I’d like the Big Mek solo.

GW has a serious 3d printed problem. The quality is easily on par now and I'm standing in a store looking at 22 quid cultist characters. Cultists. For 22 pounds.

It really has come on in leaps and bounds. I ordered some heads and scenic bases from Spellcrow through Wayland Games and the quality of them is stunning.
They have Nurglings.

The Chaos models they have are really cool in general. This nurgle champion/demon prince is amazing:

Quality wise they may be fine but they lack the art direction/quality that GW have. They all look knock off GW, which lets them down quite a bit and keeps them looking inferior.

Has there been any word on the release date of the new AoS version and box? I’m quite pumped for it. That new Spearhead mode sounds great.

Not officially, but rumours suggest July.
If I had to guess, I'd say a 13 July release would be perfect for marketing as 13 is the sacred number of the Skaven. I also wouldn't be surprised if they do a 3 week pre-order window, which would make 22 June the day pre-orders went live.
This is total guesswork and could be completely off the mark!

I kinda want the mini for my Sisters army but what kind of book sub-title is "A Celestian Sacresant Aveline Novel".
Like I get you want the unit title to search for on the Warhammer store on the book somewhere... but fuck me.

Standard pulp fiction titling isn’t it. Which is what BL is!

I dunno the standard of writing often seems below the average. Though I've not read one in a while and mostly just giggled when my friend who works at BL sent me snippets of awful sentences.
But they do just put "An Eisenhorn Novel" on stuff, not "An Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Eisenhorn novel" on the books.
Sometimes I just think they only want to advertise to the faithful. Rather than get new people in.

Are there any legitimately good AoS novels? Whilst I’ve got a bunch of stuff for it I know naff all about any of the lore etc.

I don't know myself. My standard for pulp has always been Bernard Cornwell / Terry Pratchett. I read some early Gaunt's Ghosts novels and basically went "Well it's a sci-fi rip off of Sharpe, but he can't write as good a sentence as Cornwell". So I just go read a Sharpe novel instead.

I can’t speak to Cornwell but Pratchett is far too good a writer for me to consider pulp. Edit: I’d list stuff like the Jack Reacher books, Da Vinci Code, and whatever that horror hack that isn’t as good as Stephen King is called as pulp. Enjoyable enough page turners if you want to turn your brain off but zero artistry in character, dialogue and description. The few BL I have read are wildly varying in writing quality. The one about the killer Word Bearers ship is one of the worst things I have ever read and didn’t even qualify as a page turner. I get what you are saying about the title now. Maybe because she isn’t an established character, maybe inconsistencies within the publishing people, maybe as you say a blatant advertisement to sell that mini.

Better than the 40K one I’d say, although AoS is a lot more compact in terms of baggage. Maybe try and source them on EBay or wait to see what the new book is like. Should think they will be quite cheap as they will be mostly useless soon!

I mean they're really good genre fiction (Dan Brown is just trash), but never really go past genre fiction. They're just very well crafted genre fiction. Where as Left Hand of Darkness is genre fiction but transcends being merely that. But genre fiction is a bit weird as real good examples of it are more like proper literature. I'm not wedded to "pulp" but am not sure of the exact term for high quality enjoyable read, that I don't particularly think of being mind blowing or that interesting.

I just finished a sisters of battle audiobook. It was ok, but it really struggled with the dichotomy of wanting the main characters to be heroic and the fact that the sisters are closed-minded zealots.
I think its mistake was to pit them against other humans. The first half was a decent mystery, but once it all kicked off it went a bit Mitchell & Webb - which didn't really work with the characters we were supposed to be rooting for.
One minute they're shocked about a murder or a violent religious ceremony, the next minute they're aiding in the slaughter of an entire city just because its leader was a bit of a prat.
Pitting them against blatant big evil demons seems like a much safer bet.
