You can use a fine pen for text.

Sakura Pigma Micron Fineliner pens are great for text. You can either get a set of black in different sizes, or a set of different colours (inc. black) all with .05mm tips.
I use them for simulating text in books or on purity seals, etc.

Beautiful work @drakesmoke! I spent the morning painting cowboys (as you do) and will finish them up tomorrow morning before work - going to be playing Dead Man's Hand at the club tomorrow evening so I need to get a shift on to complete my gang.

It’s Ludo from Labyrinth. Mrs is a huge Bowie nut. I think from seeing Bowie’s huge nuts in the tights he wore in said film if we’re being honest.

Is the text sculpted in already?

Is the text sculpted in already? Nar. I’ll either need to be brave and have a go or leave it.

I haven't done it in well over a decade but it was easier for me to carve my squiggles then pinwash and recoat the "paper" bit. Could try practicing on some leftover bits/sprues with a dremel if you have one?

I'm honestly considering filing off any purity seals. They don't really suit the tone of my chapter at all.

Work in progress, still testing colour scheme. Even with a size 000 brush, I'm finding eye lenses quite difficult to paint, and they need going over again.
Primed the Intercessor with Storm Grey this time (by hand, rather than spray) and it definitely made a difference to the number of coats of Caledor Blue required for the shoulder and the weapon casing. Did a coat of Abaddon Legion Black contrast paint over the grey, but it didn't really come out very well, so I ended up going over it again lightly with black base. Drybrushing Dark Reaper Grey over the armour edges seems to be too subtle. Looks alright up close in person, but the camera doesn't really pick it out very well.
First Intercessor I've built, so first time I've really seen the height difference between a Firstborn and a Primaris.

The old models never really showed the difference in height between regular marines and humans like the imperial guard iirc.

That new Age of Sigmar box looks like a very sexy package.

Mike, I’m assuming a senior moment with the naming but if not, Abaddon is a base paint and not a contrast, which might be the problem if you’re not mistaken in your typing.
Honestly, I’d suggest you try Dawnstone or similar as a highlight for the black.
Yep the Sigmar box looks pretty awesome doesn’t it, although I’ve never loved Skaven. I think it’s cool how you get scenery with it.

And I think I need to practice more with contrast paints, it was just looking streaky.

Contrast paints aren't at their best when used on Marines. Too many large, textureless surfaces.
Two coats of something lighter, like Basillicanum Grey might get you closer to where you're aiming. But with two coats, how much time are you gonna save over a base, wash, highlight scheme?

I need to get better at photographing my minis, but anyway, here is my latest batch of cowboys, going to be using them on Monday for my second game of Dead Man's Hand Redux - it's a cracking game! In the middle we have retired banker turned vigilante, The Loan Arranger with his sidekick on his left The Compound Kid. Not forgetting to his right, Tip O'Rarey, Irish gunslinger extraordinaire.

Sneak peek. Have done this in sub assemblies so today was getting the arms done. Beer belly/front plate tomorrow. Have ordered a 005 brown micron pen to try and tackle the text, although that doesn’t arrive until Sunday. Quite proud of this one, have really pushed some new tekkers here.

For text, work out your spacing and do the hardest letters first. Get to where you're happy with the trickiest bit, then have a downhill run.

That looks awesome. I wish the $usd wasn't so expensive right now!
I can't believe he went through that whole video without making or squishing one though!

I kinda feel like we all just kinda skipped over the fact that in Age Of Sigmar, The Horned Rat has officially ascended to being the fifth Chaos God.

Here's the link to the new box. Me likey. There was a Sigmar RTS in the XBox 360 I loved, and one of the playable races were the Skaven. I'd have a sniper unit bury itself so it couldn't be detected, and use a scout to lure enemies into the sniper's range. It was great. So I have a soft spot for those wee ratty bastards.

I have to admit the newer models are pretty cool. And I liked the fact that in the Soul Wars plot, Nagash’s pyramids would have worked if it weren’t for those pesky, gnawing rats. Maybe I’ll come round and inevitably buy this set lol.
Edit - I used to think Tyranids were shite too
