I have a feeling it’s a more…adult meme.
Things of beauty btw. I’ve pretty much done my leviathan half and am now building up the Xmas battle box with hive tyrant (got a spare torso for a couple up), norn assimilator 20 horns Gaunts and 10 genestealer - while making a start finally on my imperial nobility blood bowl team. Really should finish up the massive pile of ‘basecoated and shaded but no highlights’ models at some point…

I genuinely can't be fucked doing 10mm models up to a much higher standard than this, but for scale a contemptor dreadnaught vs a Warlord. EDIT: with less broken links

So, finished up giantess number 2 (except for the base):
Here's a glimpse of my madness - probably half as much again hidden away, and a large amount of scenery up in the attic too. Yes, I have a problem. The problem is not enough space.

I am jealous. Largely of the space, I may live in London. That unit takes up the whole wall of my box room, I'm lucky to have that room as my hobby room and office but I dream of having enough space to actually play a game as well. Ah well, I'm really not complaining, I realise I’ve ended up with a really sweet set up.

If it’s up to the standard of your last I’m sure it’s brill but that photo isn’t doing your giant justice, man that’s dark!
I spy an OG box dread and an Orky one, would love to have a look at those. Really regret not buying a Cassaferrum before they went out of print - that was always my very favourite model as a kid (and is why I have three in the pile of shame).

I promised pics. I deliver: Krieg. I'll be damned if I can find the shovel I have for the lead officer, but I know it's somewhere ! Flogging on eBay once I do... Scarsguard. Another 10 man affiliated squad for some Heresy killteams, themed to match their bigger bros. And these Voidboys will match up with some pre-WE loyalist Warhounds. Got some Iron Warriors and S of Horus lined up too. And the idea of making a fast, chequers style game to play with these 5/10 teams all on S.Hulk tiles. And I love this fella. He's my Abelard Werserian. Announce me !

Took a break from bugs as I’m waiting on a paint pot. Decided to just do one model so I could get my eye in on the squad but I might actually just do this for marines from now on TBH. Also largely did this the seemingly old fashioned way and did the majority of base colours as a first step - seems to be a bit out of fashion these days, and I wanted to see what it was like doing it this way - have to say I quite enjoyed it and I think it actually keeps the motivation up a bit as it all comes together in a consistent way.

Having been away from Warhammer for a long time, it's weird seeing the new figures of old figures that I used to have. They look exactly like I remember them... except then I go back and look at the old figures and they don't look like that at all.
It's like when they remaster a video game and you think 'pah, they haven't even improved the graphics!' and then you go back and look at the original and your eyeballs melt!

I remember going into a Games Workshop (as I think it still was) (and still should be) when I was in my early thirties. It was the first time I’d been in or seen a mini since I was a child and I ended up having a big debate with one of the guys in there as I was convinced they’d reduced the scale! Obviously my hands had just got bigger!
My then girlfriend got hit on whilst I was having this conversation. The line ‘and I’m training to be a manager of my very own Games Workshop store’ was used I believe.

I mean that’s sexy. Who wouldn’t want to be with someone like that?
Fine work on the termie btw. Very crisp. How did you do the panel lining? At the moment thinned oils seem all the rage for dropping in.

At the moment thinned oils seem all the rage for dropping in. With difficulty - my hands got bigger. In all seriousness, it’s just neat Basilicanum Grey contrast dropped in with a very fine brush. Any that spills over can just be wiped off with your thumb whilst wet. That’s also used on the metallics, which was Iron Hands Steel, then an overall wash of the Grey, then drybrushed back a bit with the IH Steel. It’s a pretty versatile pot. I also want to thoroughly recommend Apothecary White - the helmet is just Corax White with that painted over it, no additional steps and I think it worked great.

Oof. So it seems that all of the Ork Forgeworld units (except for the Gargantuan Squiggoth) have been removed from the Ork codex. Pretty big news as Kill Tanks and Grot Tanks are very common in Ork armies. I've got 12 Grot Tanks, 2 Grot Mega Tanks and 2 Kill Tanks myself - all of which are now in legends and won't be getting further rules updates.
What's crazy is that they're still selling a fair few Forgeworld Ork units and haven't officially announced that they're leaving the range, it's only folks with advanced copies who are putting the word out.
This spells potential disaster for the Aeldari Codex. They have a pretty sizeable Forgeworld roster that see regular play - if they kill the likes of the Lynx, Hornets and Shadow Spectres people are going to be rather disappointed/annoyed, I think.
I understand their reason for killing off most of the resin ranges, but it's still a huge shame as some great models will be disappearing.

I think I've still got Wave Serpents from when they were a resin forge world kit for the Falcon.
Obviously they were in the main codex as the only dedicated transport. As GWs attitude to the eldar range is the same as ever. Well it was good during 2nd edition. Fuck Space Marines.
Ah my night spinner is probably also an original Forge World version.
Though none of those new FW ones like Lynx's have ever been in the codex. Only ever been Imperial Armour, which you always buy knowing it may not be fully legal or supported.

So here is my first (unbased, counts-as) unit of 20 Black Orcs with great weapons. I have another 20 with shields and hand weapons waiting to be cleaned up and primed.
Not the best figures or paint job but they'll look good with the rest of the army I;m slowly putting together. I accidentally pre-ordered some Boar riders and another Orc mob so now can run either a full Orc or full Goblin army, or most likely a fun combination of both. I do now have 2000 points of painted greenskins, and I can more or less put up an opposing 2000 point Empire army (with plenty of counts-as figures from my historical stuff) - admittedly with almost half of that in allied Dwarves and Ogre mercenaries - still, it's a nice feeling to know I could have a nice looking battle at some point!

They look splendid Fork.
So it’s probably a bit daft but I’m collecting all codexes/codices for this edition just for the sake of it and because it’s nice to get all the flavours I won’t get through really ponderously reading the Horus Heresy.
Got the Ork and Custodes ones this weekend.
I’m finding they give me a bit more appreciation for armies I’ve never been bothered by too.
Anyway, just read the story that casually drops a female Custodes into the frame that has caused all the furore. I actually find the quality of narrative in a codex to be generally a bit less than the better Black Library stuff I’ve read but this was superb - really good twists and quite darkly funny with it too.

Spent a couple of hours trying out various colour options on a test model to see what worked and what didn't.
After quite a bit of trial and error, I have a first-born beaky marine who has a few too many layers of paint on him, and he won't match his brethren.
On the plus side, I am pretty happy with what I've worked out. Trying to get an even coat of Caledor Blue over black primer required too many layers and obscured the armour panel detail, so rather than priming the whole lot in black, I'm going to have to prime the left shoulder pad and weapon casings in white, then hopefully one layer of the Caledor, then run a wash of Tyran Blue Shade into the recesses.
As for the black armour, I tried highlighting the edges in Dark Reaper Grey, but it was a bit too bright and applied a bit too thickly. Then tried painting over the majority of the armour plates with a layer of Corvus Black, leaving just a tiny hint of the Dark Reaper at the edges, then a layer of Abaddon Black over it so there was a gradient of Dark Reaper/Corvus/Abaddon.
It doesn't look too bad, but the highlights are too subtle. So I think I'll try a 50/50 mix of Dark Reaper and Corvus for the highlights, and just do those over the black primer and let that be it.
Helm lenses I did in Temple Guard Blue, then a small amount of Tyran Blue Shade, and a tiny dot of White Scar in the corner, and that came up perfectly and I was really pleased with it.
All metal bits of the armour and weapon were done in Leadbelcher with a wash of Nuln Oil afterward.
I am dreading trying to paint pale skin, plus I've had this idea that as a Raven Guard successor chapter, their gene seed has mutated further to the point where as they age, they start looking like they've got poliosis, so I'm going to have to learn how to paint two-tone black/white-blonde hair.
On the plus side, I won't have to be painting any eye details, because they will be jet black.

A good two tone highlight over Abaddon black is Eshin Grey and Dawnstone.
If you want a blue looking black Fenris Grey can help it read like that for spot/extreme highlights (or just the main highlight colour).
I’ve seen that Midlands guy (Tabletop Ready I think?) use Corvus and to me it did probably look towards being too subtle.
Good luck - priming different areas in different colours sounds like a lot of hard work!

I've just struggled through Deathfire, book 32 of the HH. Arbitor Ian and Mira Manga were doing a book review of Valdor Birth of The Imperium so I have picked it up in actual physical paperback and just about to start as a bit of a palette cleanser before getting back to the HH proper.
Looking forward to it.

So far I've been spraying most things black while they are still attached to the sprue, so I guess my plan is to keep doing that but clip off the bits that need white primer first and do them seperately.
Although, on the subject of the shoulder pads, this has taken my interest, seeing as I haven't come up with a chapter badge design yet:

My first GW plastic Orcs done:
I only had metal orcs from them before when I stopped collecting GW stuff at the end of the 80s, so I hadn't realised how big these guys were going to be - still, I kinda like their goofy gorilla gait so I'll be building a few more. My pre-order stuff didn't arrive today so it'll not get here until Tuesday now - I might get another 10 of these Orcs built and painted by then maybe...
