nexus6Thanks for the compliment. Top of a bookcase for info! @oldschoolsavant Thanks for the info. Yeah I’m familiar with the sprue goo concept, maybe that’s the one to try, will hit the vids. @blue_mike - just watching the Adepticon video now. I haven’t got to Sigmar proper yet but the Chaos SM and Underworld stuff is all awesome. Not sure how much of it is new models but I will be sorely, sorely tempted by the Chaos stuff there. I was however expecting new Sigmar as they’ve been teasing this SIGMAR LIED stuff for a while now. Wow this new Sigmar Chaos mounted boss lady is an AMAZING mini More than anything though I’ve wanted this Irish fella’s jumper. Lovely knit!

Wasn't expecting a new version of Age Of Sigmar. GW are on a 3 year release cycle for all their games it seems. Which means a new Kill Team later this year too.

I don't know what the price of that is, but I know it's gonna sting

So the new Chaos SM Combat Patrol box - seems to be continuing a trend of removing a cool centrepiece (the Hellbrute) and offering a generally slightly less appealing collection of minis.
I really would like to collect CSM and thought they would be my 4th army, after orkses.
With the loyalists, I’ve basically collected 2000 points (bulk of my pile of shame) from Leviathan and three Combat Patrols - the (previous) Dark Angels, Blood Angels, and Space Wolves. With FLGS prices, this has been a great way to do it AND get three big centrepiece models I love - and Impulsor, Redemptor dread and the Invictus Tactical Robocop 2 suit.
Granted most armies you can’t buy three separate Combat Patrols for, but I really feel like the Chaos CSM box as was is a really tempting and cool way to start the race for 2,000 and bag a big model. I get that CP is supposed to be its own thing but surely I can’t be the only one that uses it as a starter/boost to collecting for the main game?
So with Codex Orks on the horizon I basically feel forced into buying their awesome CP before it goes out of print, despite being nowhere near ready for it. Sigh. Onto the credit card and onto the POS it goes. Why can’t they just leave things alone?!
I feel the term Pile Of Shame is really well thought out, as it makes the collector feel like a POS themselves!

The degradation of CP boxes seems more deliberate to me. Auspex has commented on most of them and highlighted a drop in value in terms of both pure cash savings and the amount of points per £ whenever a box is changed.
Removing the big centrepiece model from each set because "big vehicles are hard for some other boxes to handle" is a convenient excuse, except they could have just as easily made it so that everyone had either a vehicle, or a way of handling them, when updating the contents.
I'm hoping to have the cash for at least one of the battleforce boxes that were announced instead. Still no Helbrute (those are usually quite cheap on ebay though), but if at the usual £145ish price + FLGS discount they look like really good value. Definitely leaning towards the one with the Termis if I have to choose, not much of a fan of jump pack models since they decided that flight stands were not derpy enough and everyone had to be mid-prance instead.

It will be particularly interesting (and depressing) to see what they replace the Genestealer Cults and Drukhari CPs with as the current boxes are excellent value. You can literally buy multiples of these to make up the best part of a whole army with very little redundancy.

I’m surprised there’s any more models than are contained in the CP for those two armies TBH. Although dark elves and AI dwarves are a faction I don’t really get!
I think only old world gets dwarves ‘right’ in Warhammer. Fireslayers and whatever the airship boys are called in Sigmar ain’t it for my liking.

What about the new Pioneer Votaan ? That's an instant buy for me, having a GSC force and a few Squats they'll team up with nicely.
But then I build/collect for myself/aesthetic, and would probably resort to One Page Rules these days !

I actually don't mind the Votann and I'm slowly collecting a 2000pt army, but I'm more of a fan of the Necromunda Squats if I'm honest. They're much more in keeping with the original 1st Edition concept and just seem a bit more fun and characterful.

I like the Votann, I used to play squats and I'm frequently dumbfounded by the paradox of 40k's setting and it's function as a war game meaning that in the far off future, army leg it to kick the shit out of each other. It kinda' works for the Broh-fash imperium. But almost all factions insist on employing techniques long since redundant in the current day (because it's a war game). So I thematically lean toward shooting armies (because they make sense)

I don’t think the Votann are bad models or anything. In fact I watched a battle report a few weeks ago and quite admired them (a really good last stand scenario vs Tyranids).
It’s just the Squats of old did have that trad high fantasy thing I think they should have. Always remember thinking the Land Train in Epic was awesome too and very thematic. Gee Dubbs people have said in interviews they didn’t like the cliches and the humour in them though haven’t they.
Instead I think Votann almost look like mini marines. And I don’t get why you’d have armoured vehicles with vulnerable bubble canopies - although their vehicles *are* cool.
So it’s not that I think they are bad models at all, they just don’t give me that dwarfy goodness I’d want from them - and part of it is that the range is too small I think.

My citadel paints are fucked :/ Haven't opened them for years and they're clumped up and nasty
The vallejo paints - same age and storage - are fine after a good shake

I'm finding the Pebeo acrylic range from Hobbycraft quite good.

Got any lahmian medium Danno? Depending on *how* fucked it is that can bring it back to something less tarry or viscous, although it’s a compromise and the medium is expensive in itself of course. I did it with my old wraithbone pot recently, just tipped a healthy measure in. It hadn’t gone solid yet but had turned halfway to rubbery.

I find that one pretty much exactly the same as Citadel base ones so far. Granted I've only tried it quite sparingly, but it is so much closer to the old Enchanted Blue colour than anything in the current Citadel range. It doesn't quite dry with the same texture, but once a coat of varnish is on, it's all good. Also, forgot to mention, they do them in both matt and gloss versions.
EDIT:
I am very tempted by Kill Team Cassius. For once, they are the same price on GW, Element and Wayland.

No, but I was looking at a 3rd party option anyway (I forget which but it was definitely mentioned in this thread). They have gone very very weird though - I have three pots of Rakarth Flesh. One looks alright, one looks like something from an unflushed toilet, and the last is both of the above but in separate parts of the pot.

It's incredibly frustrating. I sat down to paint for the first time in aaaaaages and just got noped.
All my fault really. Shake your paints especially if you aren't using them. The difference between Citadel and Vallejo/Scale 35 is stark too - one is awful, two ain't.

I made the paint mistake recently too (following a large break due to my thumb/wrist surgery last year) I hadn't touched my paints so the Instar ones I first bought to get me back into the hobby are a mixture of fine and ruined. None of the citadel ones went bad though which is nice.
I found an untouched pot of 'ardcoat, I recall my thinking being I'd use it on completed miniatures to stop them being chipped, or the paint dulling, but I now think it's a bad idea as they'll probably look shiny? Anybody used it?

These are a cool idea, if you wanted to have your miniatures look like they were up to their ankles in water/mud/swamp/slime/chemicals/blood/other with Technical paints:
I don't know if I'd even bother with the black standard base as shown in the pictures, just plant the feet in the hollow base and fill 'er up with technical paint. Or maybe use some kind of 25/32mm flat round insert in the bottom to show through any transparency effect.
Danno could use them with CSMs, have Khorne Berserkers look like they were splashing their way through lakes of the old claret?
@drakesmoke could use them for Tyranids emerging from some kind of purple ichor spawning pool or acid pit?
---
Nah, I didn't just spend nearly a hundred quid on more stuff from Wayland...

Orcs and Gobbos have landed in the Old World!!! I had a 2000 point army back in the day so I need holding back from going all in and everything. I don't have anybody to play with so it'll just be for painting (slowly) and nostalgia.
If they release the goblin fanatics again I'm not going to be able to resist.

I managed to resist the orcs this week and just picked up their supplement for the time being (along with the new Beta-Garmon campaign book for 30k, a couple of squads of Velataris and a plastic Malcador *COUGH*).

They're cool, but fuuuuuck me that's steep for a base! I didn't buy those bases, tempted as I was. I did however buy a couple of scenic ones that look like ruined statues. And a load more paints. And some Green Stuff. And the Primaris Chaplain On Bike.

Those bases plus some UV resin, tinted with a shade or two...
I'm staring at my Death Guard box'o'bits now, thanks. Thought I was done today buying 20 Solar Auxilia to cobble some Traitor Guard to go with some natty torsos I found.
