Ah, the Proteus does look like a 'proper' land raider. After googling around, I remembered that the set I had was this one: Which was also Heresy and therefore marines on both sides. Lots of Land Raiders and Rhinos. But you could buy units from other races, so I'd imagine if it's a success they'll start introducing Eldar Hovertanks, etc.. pretty soon.

Yeah I had the 2nd Edition Space Marine box: Had Eldar, Orks and Marines in it. The 3rd Edition, Epic 40,000 was the best one though Space Marines vs Orks.

Was mine first edition? I feel like the art looks newer than yours.
I had Adeptus Titanicus too, and I think my mate had a bunch of those eldar hover tanks.
I wonder if my parents threw both boxes out when they moved last year?

Yeah the release order was something like: Adeptus Titanicus (late 80s) - Horus Heresy Space Marine 1st Edition also late 80s - Horus Heresy
Various White Dwarf articles linked the game together to make it a single system.
Space Marine 2nd Edition 91 (later re-branded Epic: Space Marine, also the whole thing was just re-branded Epic generally) They then added all the other factions around here. But it was more of a soft edition as it consolidated all the White Dwarf articles and such and soft set the timeline to be 40K not HH. Epic: Titan Legions '94 - expanded titan rules with the Imperator and Mega Gargant
Epic: 40K (so 3rd edition) 1997 - total re-write and basically the best set of rules, the last time they actually provided minis Epic: Armageddon 99? (4th) Which was just a rulebook which basically refined Epic 40K, mostly around how army lists were constructed, but the fundamentals were the same
2003 is also when the Horus Heresy card game came out, where they soft ret-conned the various design decisions in the 90s around Space Marines into being historical stuff from the Horus Heresy. So the original land raiders, rhinos, predators with curvey turrets, land speeders etc. all got cod-latin names and were made to be the mk1 models from during the heresy.

I had both Adeptus Titanicus and then Space Marine 1st Ed (with the famous Al Pacino Dark Angel on the front). But they did add Xenos factions through White Dwarf articles; e.g. the Eldar Phantom Titans got their rules for Adeptus Titanicus in WD 110 (Feb 1989).
I ended up with both Blood Angels and Biel Tan armies for Epic and quite a few of my school friends had armies back then: Orks, Squats, Chaos, Guard. Fun times.
Honestly, I'm all-in on the new Epic box - I have a tonne of the new Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica stuff (mainly in my pile of shame!), so it wouldn't take much to raise a full army. Plus, I might finally be able to finish a 30k Mechanicum force at that scale (I've bought assorted bits of Forgeworld Mechanicum over the years, but never actually built a proper playable army for them).

The Forgeworld 40k Aeronautica kits have gone on last chance to buy, with the majority selling out already. I realise Forgeworld only have limited capacity for casting, but they've effectively begun killing Aeronautica in favour of Legions Imperialis.
Bit of a shame the two systems couldn't co-exist - at least for a while. I wonder if they'll start winding down some of the plastic kits?
Edit: Yep, all the plastic 40k Aeronautica kits have gone last chance to buy as well, with most gone already. Fuck's sake.

Just when I thought I was out...
Long story short I sold all my Warhammer stuff, including paints, brushes, conquest magazines when my second little boy was born. I knew I wouldn't have time to build, let alone paint them.
I just paint, so buying an army box doesn't make sense to me as I won't want to paint so many similar minis. I suppose I could just sell the extras but don't need the hassle.
Do you guys know of any facebook groups/forums where they swap or sell individual minis.
I use to get some off eBay but after Brexit they've gotten a bit more expensive, and Aliexpress models take so long to come

Good bunch. Generally * having dealt with Aussie customs just once, would never ever ever ever do so again

If you’re knocking around the West Yorkshire region at all, this place is pretty great: mirfieldminiatures.com/Don’t know for sure, but think they might post too.

So that's my Tau and Eldar fucked then. My natural aversion to Space Marines was weakening a touch just to play Epic again, I'll wait to find out how the rules work. If they're close to Epic 40K/Armageddon cool, maybe. But just yanking the Xenos minis has made me so much warier.

So much nostalgia in that Space Marine stuff, especially the art work. It’s very cheesy Operation Wolf type stuff looking back. WIP: Have had to strip the wings entirely because I made a stinker of them, re-based from a pot and tried again and made another stinker. Don’t try and wet blend contrast paints. 50 mins in 99.9 per cent alcohol and it’s all scrubbed off with a toothbrush. When the rainstorms die down I’ll rattle can the wings and hopefully be close to finished (just going to work the wraithbone back in on the flesh on this). LegendaryApe, I believe The Outpost offer trade in on unwanted minis so might be worth browsing any pre-owned stock they have. If you’re after Age of Sigmar hit me up, I’ve got a bunch to sell when I can be arsed.

Will do when I get round to it. I just had a look at The Outpost and so I think their second hand is currently theoretical, no stock!
If you’re interested in 40K and don’t want to drop the money on the current big box, they are releasing at least two slimmed down versions soon. Also the current Leviathan box in the UK can be had for 30 per cent off if you can find any stock at FLGS but I do suspect only the core GW shops have it left (£150 GW price over here).
Look at the Combat Patrol boxes also depending on your budget - you can now get a complete small force for most factions for around £90 which look like a very attractive way to model and paint different factions to me. The Ork and Imperial Guard ones look really great in particular.
I fully intend to build on the Marine and Nid stuff from my box to 2000 points and then I think Combat Patrol is what will keep me involved in the modelling side. I’ve not actually played a game of this since the nineties, when it was bedroom carpet, cardboard box building and about ten figures each!

Thanks! All great tips. I was looking through those boxes. It would have to be a smaller one, as I couldn't face painting so many of the same type of unit.
There are no hobby stores nearby where I live so maybe online..
Could be cheaper to pick up a 3d printer on prime day to print the odd mini whenever I felt like painting

What sort of stuff are you looking for L.Ape ? Excess sprues/minis galore over here, and might shake me into building something custom too. Sounds like you're after a fun mini or two to paint rather than play. So much nostalgia in that Space Marine stuff, especially the art work. It’s very cheesy Operation Wolf type stuff looking back. More "say hello to my lil' friend". It's lifted straight from it, but always made me laugh imagining Dolph playing the role. Maybe all this deepfake/AI will get there one day.

That's precisely it, to be honest. Just one or two cool minis, and shape, size, universe, doesn't matter. Just want to paint, there's no hope of any of them being played on a tabletop, just want to paint and relax

Well there are those blind box marine characters available. That's a cheap way of getting 1 mini. Keep an eye out in future, I'm sure there'll be a Hatchet Partworks follow up to Imperium on the way some time, the first issue will likely have at least 2 minis.
Mighty Lancer games also sell second hand stuff, not sure if they'd ship to ROI though.

If you fancy painting some fantasy, then the current Warhammer magazine in circulation is Stormbringer. You can order a single back issue from here: hachettepartworks.com/en-en/warhammer-age-of-sigmar-stormbringer/It's a bargain considering you can get a full £30-£35 unit or a single £20-ish character per issue for £8.99. Once this magazine has nearly ended its run they'll do a new 40k one (most likely with Marines v Tyranids), but I wouldn't expect it until next year. The 2 previous 40k magazine runs are Conquest and Imperium - you can pick up many of their individual issues on eBay still, but I wouldn't imagine you'll pay under a tenner now, unfortunately.

That's great information, thank you drakesmoke and Zyrr. I had some of the conquest magazine, but my local newsagent doesn't do it anymore...they don't do any partworks at all for the last year or so. It's a bit of a pain, as it's a relatively large town. I'll look into ordering online, if they ship to ROI
