I just cba with the inevitable shitshow it'll turn out to be - and GW know fine well what'll happen too and probably still won't enable captcha/MtO which'd whittle down scalping for the mob. I can see reddit threads of whining galore already as the website gets hammered...
I mean, pre-order, pre-orders are already up on eBay at silly prices, not even reflecting RRP.
Like FP, only really interested in the Termies, but after missing the Arbites and Ashes of Faith stuff, I'll just wait until seperate boxes appear after all this kerfuffle.

Their answer is ‘this isn’t a starter set’. Same with Indomitus. Newbies will be catered for by tiered starter sets at a lower price point down the line. Yeah and without such a complex array of characters and special rules. Like a starter set.

Think I might end up going in for a preorder. I’m in opposite land though, where I’m quite excited for the Tyranid bits and don’t much care about more Space Marines. See they haven’t chucked in any dice or measures etc. Such a crappy approach for any newcomers. Could go halvsies if you're interested...?

So I think I’ve snagged a copy. Out of stock in some the FLGS stores straight away. GW was estimating an hours wait….

Yeah, they were telling me over an hour, started giving an exact time when it was less than an hour. 11:40 by the time I was allowed through, looking forward to those Tyrannids.

I really wish they'd fucking set up the Leviathan queue as separate to the rest of the store. I wanted to look for some Eldar, but can't be arsed waiting an hour for the USA release time (which I wouldn't be eligible for anyhow).

Interesting that there still appears to be stock avaliable to preorder...
And the website queue is less that a minute right now

Actually seemed to work out okay judging by reports, just a few angry nods towards FLGS/3rd party only getting a third of their requested stock, but certainly no Indomitus.
Can we get back to producing everything else now ?

That is a hell of a model. Although the top claw is nailed on to snap off!

That is a hell of a model. Although the top claw is nailed on to snap off! I love the new miniatures design but by god do they have snappy bits these days. I basically had to rebuild Lelith Hesperax entire ankle with a pin in it and Drazhar's top knot.

Got the Leviathan set this weekend. Waiting for it made me realise that as cool as Stormcast Eternals are, my heart has always been with 40K. So here’s the revamped Termagaunt, five done, five more are primed and shaded with the pink, will try and do a bit a night to have ten done by the weekend. The flock is called New Zealand Lands by Geek Gaming. Need to work out how to stop the static grass sticking on the rim as I seal it.

That’s quick work! And good work too. I spend three weeks per SOB squad and it still looks terrible.

Thanks all. If you are interested in the mechanics lookup Striking Scorpion and Trovarian Miniatures vids, I’ve mixed and matched between them but it’s basically wraith one spray, really watered down pink contrast (using contrast medium). Carapace is the new Leviathan Purple contrast, eyes and tongue are contrast also. The only ‘trad’ paints are the wraith one, the black and the base, and there’s a light blue dry brush over the armour and around the black details. I always thought contrast was a bit cheat-y but it’s not, it’s just another tool. I got a magnifying light ring this time which has been a bit of a game changer. Danno tea was hours ago, it’s the only room big enough for a big table, I basically live in there as that kitchen is the office too.

Got a few days off with my partner still in work for most of it so have been batch painting 15 termagaunts plus the two ripper swarms from the new box.
Realistically I’ve made loads of progress but have had to stop at an earlier stage than I wanted. I wanted to just be left with the purple, highlighting and basing tomorrow and I’m a couple of hours off that at least. Shoulders are in complete knots from hunching like f#cking Gollum over the magnifying glass, eyes are knackered and I’ve started to make mistakes.
This hobby needs to come with a DSE assessment or I need to regress a quarter century to when I wasn’t physically a piece of shite.
Put a shift in though, proud of that and I know I’ve got all the juicy monsters to look forward to once the rank and file are cleared.
EDIT: Just remembered I built the neurogaunts today and did a bit of a clean too. Maybe it’s not so bad.

Actual Epic minis revealed in today's stream. They are all fucking Space Marines mind. Oh it includes Auxilia off the bat, with it being a Imperial army with detachments of both. I am now interested.

What are those things top right ? Funny looking Sentinels ? Lots of nostalgia nonetheless, and the move to round bases makes sense.

I’ll be very interested to see if they re-do the Imperator and make it not goofy.
As a kid the Titans and stuff caught my imagination more than anything.

Advice sought from better and more experienced painters amongst you please.
I’m on for finally completing these twenty Termagaunts today. Completely underestimated it and have learned lessons but will finish the process now.
So…varnishing. I’ve done a bit of Age of Sigmar before and tried the munitorum varnish. My experience of this was that it kinda spoiled the miniatures tbh, going on a bit thick (probably user error).
Now with regards priming with a spray, this is already difficult (looking at the weather I can’t prime my next batch until Friday) but it really does seem like you need to wait for the third Thursday when Jupiter has ascended, the moon is gibbous and the cockerel crows with this spray varnish stuff to avoid negative effects like frosting.
Is there a good, reliable, satin brush on equivalent? I don’t want to get an airbrush at this point. Is varnishing *that* necessary?
EDIT - I do have a bunch of AoS Sequitors I can practise the Munitorum on if there are solid tips for that as an alternative.

I've almost entirely moved away from spray varnishes as they're just too temperamental/risky and highly dependent on ambient humidity and temperature. My go-to method now (as suggested by Mr. Duncan Rhodes himself) is a 1:1 mix of AK Interactive Ultra Matte Varnish and Contrast Medium, you can use an airbrush or just brush it straight on (I tend to just brush it on most of the time as I can't be arsed to clean varnish out of the airbrush every single time).
The Ultra Matte is an excellent varnish on its own but it completely dulls down metallics, so mixing in the Contrast Medium brings it back up to more of a subtle satin effect. Allow it to dry fully and apply a second coat. Never has any issues with frosting or brush marks - just make sure you keep the coats thin to prevent it from running or pooling.

Zyrr just watched that Dunc video cheers. This looks the mutt’s nutts and looks like the solution to me! Thanks again. Is it recommended to keep a brush aside just for this? Can imagine getting cloggage.

Definitely use separate brushes, and nothing fancy.

Yeah just cheap synthetics are your best bet. You can pick up a pack of 50 of assorted sizes for less than 20 quid on Amazon. Handy for basing/texture pastes and PVA glues, etc. Or to chop one down a bit for stippling/chipping.
Just make sure you give each brush a quick test for loose bristles before you use them, as those mega cheap synthetics tend to be a bit flaky.

As someone who doesn't follow modern GW stuff (except in this thread), did they actually announce a box-set or a new Epic ruleset, or is it still at the teaser phase?
Also, what happened to proper Land Raiders? I always really liked the design of the Land Raiders, and they were pretty prevalent in Epic.

Yes, that's the new box set coming soon. It's not going to be the Epic we remember, though - It's set during the Heresy era, which means you won't get Orks, Eldar and other Xenos factions, it'll just be Loyalist Imperium factions vs Heretics.
And there are still plenty of Land Raider variants in 40k - less so in 30k though (where this is set), with vehicles like the Sicaran battle tanks (the ones in the middle of that picture) being more common during that time period. I'm sure we'll still see plenty of Land Raider Proteus though.

Yeah the goofy pre Epic 40K Land Raider still exists in Heresy as the Proteus, with a bunch of variants or elongated variants knocking around: Current plastic tank range
