I was gonna say that it's a bit weird to release a box set with two armies, because most people are going to have one main army.
Then I remembered that Blood Bowl, Epic, Adeptus Titanicus etc.. all had 2 sides, which let me play with my mates.
The difference, I think, is that those were about 30 quid each and the sides were relatively small, and in the case of Epic and Titanicus, could be repurposed into one big side. That and I was a kid and I had mates coming over to my house to play with. And they were only 30 quid.

I just wish they'd do a launch/starter box that isn't Marines. They've plenty of other choices of Imperial forces to focus on, Admech, Sisters, Knights, could even have Guard Vs an elite Chaos/Xenos force.

Yeah, they should produce the book and dice and stuff separately, and allow you to bundle them with 2 armies of choice. They could just dictate what starter force requirements you get if you're buying 10th Ed., and then you could just choose what you want to collect.

I'm a bit surprised they don't do a couple of different starter boxes.

They've not been 30 quid in a long time. 2nd Edition 40K was £35 on release in 1993 (also it was the first box set for 40K). Epic Space Marine and Blood Bowl were £30 from memory but you got less stuff in them. Which accounting for inflation and all... Someone seems to have gone around removing all the free pdfs of 90s White Dwarf but I'm fairly sure 3rd Edition was £50 on release in 1998, so that's 25 years ago.

They always do rules and individual army boxes separately a little while after the big box, so they’ll be there, just not at launch. New rule set versions launches are almost always for the hardcore devout official league type players, everyone else just carries on with the previous versions until things trickle down and settle.

Didn't they say they were giving away the core rules for free online this time? Not that I care, if it's not a big book I won't read it. I suppose the proper comparisons for the old starter sets are these onesThey're a bit hard to compare to the old ones though. - 2nd ed, was literally the only place the get the rules, templates etc. £35-40 quid from 94-97. 20 mono-pose marines, 20 orks and 40 gretchin. Cardboard cut out vehicles - 3rd ed, £50 10 marines, 20 dark eldar and 1 plastic land speeder. The Dark Eldar were some of the worst models GW ever put out, some new plastic scenery. - 5th/6th also £60? They start adding cool new sculpts and character models. But you don't get the full rules anymore. Also christ the miniatures are so much more impressive these days and you get a nice little variety. Though always Space Marines. But 2nd still seems best just because it had all the background books and everything.

As cool as hover trikes are, I wanted something more familiar: And as I had some WFB Dwarf bits in a bag, I continued on a theme: Votann are nice, but I prefer some "too stubborn to be eaten" Squats. Just got to turn that APC into a Matrix-style hover ship now, as I wait on parts for the Madcat/Timberwolf.

'The Priapus Orbital Battery was developed by Archmagos Cawl, both to protect the approach lanes to Terran security stations with multiple, independently targeting lascannon emplacements, and to closely resemble a fucking enormous gut stick.' - box blurb.

If I was Lion el'Jonson, I'd probably be pretty pissed off about his manner of returning.
Of the post-Heresy confirmed Loyalist Primarchs, Guilliman gets to wield a flaming sword that destroys daemons entirely and gets briefly inhabited by the Emperor Himself to burn the fuck out of Nurgles' garden worse than anyone probably has for millions of years, Corax embraces his warp nature to the point where he can become a creature of liquid shadow and a flock of ravens and cause Word Bearers to know actual terror, and what does the Lion get to be?
An elderly forest ranger.

He must get really annoyed with people he speaks to on the phone thinking his name is Lionel Johnson too.

Am I the only one who always misreads it as Al'Jolson and imagines him singing Jazz and dancing?

Dark Angels are just too dull for any working brain to retain accurate information. The Heresy books about Caliban and Luther and monsters in the forest just go on and on and on. I can't even remember which faction is which. Who cares. 10,000 years later they are still hunting the fucking Fallen, so they can't be very good at it.

Nice work. Deliberate animal print trousers, or just the way the paint is ?

Nice work. Deliberate animal print trousers, or just the way the paint is ? Deliberate. Were I to do another, I'd probably do pink/purple leopard print so they pop more against the green.

As well as the stamps appearing, John Blanche apparently retired from GW yesterday. Father of all the grimmest and darkest grimdark, he will presumably be interred in a blood and gore soaked coffin made of the skeletons of other skeletons. Or something. A necrotic salute from me anyway.

I kinda assumed he died years ago. Good to hear he's still going. I always loved his art style.
He did some badass Lord of the Rings illustrations as well.

To Leviathan goes up for preorder next Saturday at 10am www.warhammer-community.com/2023/06/04/sunday-preview-leviathan-approaches/Given GWs recent track record I fear this'll sell out in about 15 seconds, although they are insisting that they're making a huge number of units... Apparently this'll be up for sale for just £150 which seems to be phenomenal value given its 72 minis, 10th edition rule book etc etc However, even at that price, I'm just not excited for Tyranids and will probably just wait for the new terminators to come out on their own...

It’s probably contributed to everything else being out of stock for the last 6 months. I do believe them when they say it’s had a huge number of copies made. Think someone estimated (based on shipping details) around 200k copies for North America, and you’d imagine they’ll probably shift that in the UK too.
I’ll be there dead on 10am Saturday, finger poised. Can’t leave it to chance to find stock!

Think I might end up going in for a preorder. I’m in opposite land though, where I’m quite excited for the Tyranid bits and don’t much care about more Space Marines.
See they haven’t chucked in any dice or measures etc. Such a crappy approach for any newcomers.

Their answer is ‘this isn’t a starter set’. Same with Indomitus. Newbies will be catered for by tiered starter sets at a lower price point down the line.

It’s a pretty lame answer though, and for the sake of an extra few pence per box would save some inevitable disappointed kids.
