GamesMaster - The Reboot

Caught the end of this last night, with the wife who rolled her eyes a bit.
Was surprised how much they re-created good or bad (Studio, Trevor, Challenges and guests)
Rab was a great choice and his unique additions were my favourite bits.
I don't know Frankie but she seems a much better choice for TV than (our?) Ellie.

Hope they hold the core ground and slowly expand/update it with more eclectic Challenges and features.

Yeah, it's been surprisingly entertaining stuff so far. Rab is fantastic as expected, Frankie seems decent. Ty seems to be trying hard I suppose, so bless him for that.

Just caught the first one. I liked it. But some notes.

I think there is a third wheel within the presenters but seeing as one is about to pop it’s not a bad idea.

Was good to see them carry on some legacy from Games World and good to see Big Boy Barry again - he’s not gotten any smaller. He could have done with some time on the mic as most people just thought he was the little lad’s massive dad, not a minor 90s celebrity.

And either have guys scream as they’re being thrown in the pit or don’t. The half hearted scream was funny once but it’ll get old quick.

I like that they’ve kept some janky edges to things. Being budget was always part of the charm

It had someone cosplaying as quiet from MGS, so depends on how comfortable you are with sexy flesh on display.
A lot tamer in terms of violent games this time though.

I think the video games TV magazine format is so easy to get wrong and I'm just really happy this works. And it actually feels like GamesMaster of old. The VR thing should have been a challenge rather than a feature, but I'm guessing the logistics of setting it up in the studio just didn't work out. I thought the reviews were implemented really well.

Probably best to just play it safe and treat it as the post-watershed show that it is.

Without meaning any spoilers I think the Deathloop challenge is broadly fine unless the kids are very young or very impressionable. Certainly compared to COD and MK11 last week

That's probably the best approach. I was just hoping to save time by avoiding watching it twice.

The first episode is on my youtube watch later list, but I don't know if I can bring myself to watch it.

I'm maybe weird, but with the original series of GamesMaster, I liked everything BUT the gaming challenges.

I liked Dominik Diamond's vaguely disguised pessimism - he seemed like he hated the show, he'd barely rehearsed, and it was all some kind of bad dream... which fitted the show's premise perfectly (wasn't he meant to be trapped in this strange reality?)

I liked the quickfire, to-the-point game reviews, by people who seemed to live and breathe games.

I liked the feeble kids getting publicly humiliated and shunned, after asking the GamesMaster for help.

I'm just not sure the new series will capture any of this, if it's even possible in this day and age.

Exactly, I can't get that 45 minutes back, and I may never mentally recover if it's 45 minutes of watching people shouting and playing games badly.

Plus it'll sully my fond memories of the original series. There's a lot to consider.

What if you (and I'm just spitballing here) start to watch it, and if you don't like it turn it off? That way you won't necessarily lose 45 minutes of your life. As it's on YT, you could combine it with another task ie. taking a shit; masturbating; positioning an elf; bringing soup up to temperature etc. That way it's not necessarily even wasted time at all.

It's okay Alison, wunty speaks the truth. I can't deny his wisdom any longer. I'm just going to have to face my fears and... watch it. Wish me luck everyone.
