Glad to see the best thread lives on. Watched Spectre yesterday, the best Bond of them all (/s), there were two instances where the shitty static image detection of my LG GX made the movie literally nearly unwatchable by turning the backlight way down. Would changing the logo luminance setting from high to low improve things? What the hell was motionless on a film that long? Nothing, and that's the problem. If the scene is dark, the shit algorithm thinks it's a static picture, even though it's changing all the time. No AI or Eco settings active, disabled all that shit. Will try with the logo setting on Low.

I guess right at the start is when it is saying "hi there, this is what I am and this is the picture mode & sound mode I would like to use". I think I was on the menu screen when mine baulked. My previous TV was a Samsung (not 4K though) and I never had any issues with it. Odd isn't it. It is definitely only at the start, or when you're changing input between one source and another, which is obviously also the initial handshaking session. I'll have a faff

Cheers folks, I’ve just bought an LED strip and plugged it into a spare USB port so far, really do like just a low level warm white light behind the TV. Working on really flattening the wall so far but can paint it several times to get it right. Will probably try a mid grey first then.

This totally didn’t work. The ship computer voice comes out of the Atmos and the center speaker, and the center overrides the atmos effect. It does sound a little higher but it’s still not really enough to properly sell the effect.

There’s definitely more separation of the channels with the Atmos in effect, so it does sound *better* but it’s not giving me what I want from it. I have 2 speaker presets set-up - 5.1 and 5.1.2 - so I can easily swap between them and rewatch scenes over and over.
The 5.1 is simply just louder from the front 3 speakers in comparison. The 5.1.2 creates more separation of sound from fronts, and you can hear the difference with some of the effects playing from the .2s which allows the front L and R to focus on specific effects without just squashing the sound together. It’s subtle but it’s there and I do like that aspect. What I’m lacking is the overhead direction.

That's a shame. Sounds like it's giving a bit, but not enough directly overhead.

Any Sonos Arc fans here ? Yep! Swapped my 5.0 bookshelf speaker system + receiver for an Arc with 2 Ones, and haven't looked back since.

I have a LG c7 that has screen burn, lines and shadows all over the panel. I contacted curry’s and they are replacing the panel. Can anyone say if the replacement panel will be any good? Also are modern oleds better at preventing screen burn? I like the look of the C1 a lot but refuse to pay huge amount of cash again, for a tv that only lasts 3 years.

Yep, from about the C9 onwards the LG oled TVs are a lot better. The panels themselves are better, but also they now have logo dimming and refresh cycles amongst other things to help alleviate any risk. You can look on rtings at their load test of oled TVs (C9s I think) that have been stuck on the most damaging input types they can think of and their conclusion is that the risk is almost non existent these days.

That's a shame. Sounds like it's giving a bit, but not enough directly overhead. I ended up buying another set of Atmos speakers and I'm currently installing all 4 up near the ceiling. This better do what I want or I've spent a lot more money and time rewiring my entire room for nothing. Excited to try them out, but likely won't be done until Sat.

I think I mentioned in the thread THAT PLACE THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED that my LG 55CX was playing up. Sometimes the screen wouldn't come on. Sometimes there was a green mist effect on one side of it. Then it'd be fine for weeks.
Anyways, long story short, the intermittent bouts of it borking got more regular and I started going through the support process. First with CostCo, in case I could just get it swapped out, but they in the end put me on with LG who (after about three weeks elapsed of getting in their system and booking an engineer) came and attempted to sort it today.
"What's the problem then, me ol' china?" <<<< this is how all engineers speak "Intermittently the screen just won't come on, but there's sound. Sometime's there's agreen mist effect down one edge." "Oh. Sounds like the screen's fu... on its way out." "Ah. Back to the factory then for a fix up?" "Naaah, I've brought one in me van."
24 minutes later: new screen.
No idea if that's gonna fix the problem but, despite the few weeks wait which would've been galling if it had been 100% borked, I can't knock them. Great service, and didn't make me fight for it at any stage.

Noice, fingers crossed. I'm currently running 44m of speaker cables around my room in all new trunking.

Good news Phattso. I've got the same TV from the same place, so that's one less thing to worry about. I'd heard Costco were good at after sales.

All wired up nice and tidy, and working as it should. Played with settings a bit to get more of what I want but I still can’t get the computer at the start of Star Trek to come from overhead. It plays from the center channel so I just don’t see how it can be so directional. Either way, general soundstage is much wider and the surround effect is far more pronounced. It’s like sitting in a bubble of sound.

I’m envious. I’d love to be able to wire in some decent sound.

If I ever own a house, I will build finally build the 11 channel Atmos hidden speaker setup of my audiophile dreams. By then 100" OLED screens will probably be an affordable reality. You enter the room, it is empty except for some seating, visitors will think for a moment that they shouldn't have followed me into the basement because they'll now be tortured to death in this black hole with sound dampening walls. Then after the most OLEDdest picture ever has brought a tear to their eyes, they'll finally hear all the channels from all directions and they'll go Also, it will be cool for 90% of content I watch, namely some shitty YT videos upmixed to Atmos.

No, I don’t have overheads, I’ve got height surrounds.
With them all up on the wall it does sound higher but the voice primarily comes from the center channel, so it will always come from the TV direction first. I’ll do a proper watch of the whole movie soon and see if I can spot anything specific.

Ah right, sorry, thought they were directly overhead. Yes, sounds like your main stage will be coming from the front then, albeit higher too

Yeah I had a small 5.0.2 Atmos setup a while back. I didn't mount them slightly in front of the listening position pointing straight down, but slighty behind it and pointing forward at a 45 degree angle. The following photo is from the back right surround mounted to the wall and one of the KEFs mounted as the right Atmos speaker:

I’ll throw up some pics tomorrow. I put them all up this week, a single screw each and then cable trunking to hide the wires. Was really simple to do, just time consuming to tuck all the cables away nicely.
