I'd love a remake of the first two to go with the revamped Wild Hunt, speaking of which, it can still be yours for just £7 for the GOTY version in the xbox sales. Completed the latter two on "Dark" and yeah, an hour or so in with a bit of a gear upgrade and a couple of spells and there's not much you can't murder relatively easily in either of them. I've never played the first one, how has it aged compared to the other two? Does it still hold up or is it a bit creaky now?

My guess is that it'll be before December. We should probably pare back our expectations of what the upgrade will be. It could be just like the Cyberpunk upgrade of a 4k 60 mode with fast loading or ray traced shadows for indoor locations at 1440p.

On Series X you can already play it at 4K by just choosing 60fps performance mode. That was always dynamic 4K on One X, so using it on SX just lets it stick to the higher bounds. So it'd be a big disappointment if it were only that, but that would also be a big improvement for PS5, where it's currently locked at checkerboard 4K 30fps.
I can see them touching up some of the textures, but I do agree that I don't think it'll be a massive improvment. Ray traced lighting will probably be involved, but that takes such a performance hit for negligible tangible results that it'd be not worth it, IMO. and there aren't enough reflections on the game to go that route either.

I think it'll be a nice graphical overhaul - if memory serves, they hired someone who made a PC mod that improved textures etc. - as well as having shorter loading times and whatnot, but that's probably about it.
Oh, and there should be some Netflix-themed DLC for those fans of the franchise who like the TV show. (I'm guessing you'll be able to make Geralt look like Henry Cavill or something.)
As much as I'd love to see an updated combat system, to make it more akin to something like Ghost of Tsushima, it seems improbable.
Speaking of GoT, the remappable controls they added in the Director's Cut would be great to see in The Witcher 3.

Push Square fulfilling that article quota. Ha, it's amazing how many of these type of articles exist I imagine purely for SEO.

After dropping it for years due to a PS4 Pro crash losing a few hours off my save file, finally went in and finished Heart of Stone. It was good, but I'd probably have liked it better if I played the entire DLC through in a week rather than half one week then the other half two or three years later. Wondering whether to start Blood and Wine or wait for the definitely still coming this year PS5 patch. D: May be worth doing now so I can just start a completely new game on PS5 rather than just play about 10 hours or so then uninstall.

It's due on December 9th if the recent leak is to be believed... But I guess if you're in the mood for more right now just go for it.

You could start now, then when the update drops you could roleplay that Geralt bought new contact lenses.

Gwent is just a rip off of the board game Condottiere. More different units and cards but the basic game is literally the same.
That wouldn't bother me but afaik the Gwent designer claims to have made it up himself, which is just utter bullplop.

I actually think Gwent is fine, I'm just a very sore loser. It's fun when you're playing against nobodies, but when you find some of the "pros" that have special cards, they always have a cheating ass deck where once you're near defeating them for the second jewel, they pull out some ridiculous card that quadruples their score or some nonsense.

I much prefer the modified version of it that's in throne breaker. Couldn't play normal Gwent after.

Nice. I tried The Witcher 1 a few times over the years but always struggled with it so I'll be looking forward to a remake.

You and me both, Doc!
I'm pleased with the news about the remake - the original came out 15 years ago today, apparently - but it'll be a long way off yet.
The updated version of TW3, meanwhile, is still due out this quarter... allegedly.

Nice to hear about a remake of the first game, but who knows how long that'll take.

Well it's using UE5 so you'd hope it shouldn't be that long, perhaps 2025/26?

I like the cut of your jib. Maybe call it the "definitive edition" to really show how premium of a mobile port it is.

They need to make sure that the rain goes in front of everything for hyperrealism.
