Been playing RE4 (just got Ashley) retro74 how are you able to complete it using the knife only? I’m not sure you can, it was RE1 remake I did knife only recently Some of the bosses must be impossible knife only on RE4

Even in RE1 that seems like quite a feat though. Do you just avoid all the enemies and tank the damage for bosses?

Yeah you avoid nearly all the regular enemies, it’s worth killing a few if you have to run past them often but you need to avoid making crimson heads
IIRC I only needed to fight a few bosses. Crimson Elder, Yawn once - run out of the door first encounter - and Tyrant once, you can avoid the second fight with the bad ending
Oh and the Plant, that was annoying but not difficult

Yeah Krauser is actually easy with the knife if you get it right, it decimates him

I’m sure we’ve discussed this before but did everyone else feel like the third zone in RE8 was about half as long as it was supposed to be? I thought it seemed to be setting itself up for something longer and more complicated and the boss fight felt like a pre-boss fight fight and that there should be a final form to battle again in a new location after defeating the one we got

It did seem like a cut corner that there were more werewolves there rather than something boss specific

Tbh it sounds like an enemy that's more annoying to fight and I imagine after a while it would become very laborious just like having another invincible stalker enemy. More is not necessarily a good thing.

A second stalker doesn’t sound great but I think a zone specific zombie replacement enemy would’ve been good.
That article reminded me that Capcom were promising DLC after having originally not planned for it too. Hopefully that isn’t too far off, although at this point they could be targeting a surprise release on the games’ launch anniversary maybe?
Hopefully the DLC is more story content like 7 had and not just a survival mode like they gave 2.

Anyone know if it's possible to get back into Castle Dimitrescu after the boss fight? Want to go back in for some loot but it's not looking doable

No you can’t go back in once you’ve defeated the boss IIRC. You’ve probably not missed anything important though

It's the necklace and gem for the ring, so I'll just have to sell them as they are. Not a big deal really. Only need 90,000 to max out the shotgun to get the infinite version. Although Chris's machine gun is so OP it doesn't really matter. Shotgun is cooler though

That section at the castle in the cage in RE4 is brutal if you haven't got a plan, or a grenade
Interested to see how the remake of this goes. Part of the charm is the campy video gameyness of it. The more recent RE games are quite a bit more edgey than the originals
Also I hate sliding block puzzles, ugh

There’s a few brutal sections in the castle, Water Room first time around is a nightmare
That’s why I love going back completely OP and destroying all the MFs
The room where the red cultist gets on the Gatling Gun, and the one with the switches and the bazooka guys behind the panel - nightmares!

Yeah, was dreading those bits but they went pretty well. The dogs in the hedge maze were a massive pain though, especially the three that ambush you after getting the second puzzle piece. It's such a great game though where every section feels like a unique challenge Only upgraded Red9 and the Semi-auto Rifle so far. Waiting on the Broken Butterfly and Striker. Skipped the rifle as well - I think Red9 with the stock is good enough until you get to the castle. The only place I think it's really useful is the lift section but you only need one shot to knock them off anyway
Can you get critical hits with grenades? I managed to end the first phase of Mendez with one (wasn't a successful attempt though, sadly!)

All about that Blacktail baby, that and the speed boost you can get with the Striker. God damn I hope they don't fuck up the remake, probably one of the best games I've ever played and my first ever imported game.

I imagine it will be a bit different. RE3 was all action and I've enjoyed it a lot more on repeat playthroughs but it doesn't feel like RE4 at all. RE4 itself still holds up really well though so I'm all for a mondern take on it

I do have faith in them after the other remakes, but it is an odd one, as it still looks pretty good and isn't that old.

I think they're trying to unify their Resi games with a shared visual style and presentation, Resi 4 is somewhat outlandish for a game about zombies but then Village is way out there so I can definitely see something similar to Village in it's visual style.

I'm confident that whatever happens, we'll get a good game out of it. Capcom have been on great form in recent years

I know, there was a time when I really believed they were going to go the way of the dodo. It makes you wonder what could have been with Konami, you know, if they actually gave a shit.

I’m confident too. RE4 is too good a game to create a bad remake

I've always found that despite different gameplay styles, there's always been a consistent tone to Resi games. RE4 totally is a Resident Evil game. Personally I like the shifts in gameplay. If you're going to make a game in your series that's more action orientated, you can do worse than it being one of the best action games ever made
There's only really 4 and 5 in that style. The Revelation games are kind of inbetween that and the earlier games. The first person games are their own thing but we're still getting remakes like 2
It's easily one of the strongest game series with the most 'classic' entries and that doesn't just tread water and release the same thing over and over to a complacent fanbase

Yeah I agree, despite the two camps (Traditional Resi vs Action Resi) I love each side of the franchise
Except RE6 which I actually hate with fiery passion

In some ways, RE6 is so bad it's good. Some of the dialogue is great and it's so OTT it's ridiculous. I don't think there's an idea they didn't put in the game. Protagonists? Let's have 7! And 2 Adas! Shall we have a vehicle section? Yeah, let's have all the vehicles! Where should we set it? EVERYWHERE

At the very least it made them have a good rethink about the future of the series. It served a purpose. I don't think we'd be where we are now without it

I know, there was a time when I really believed they were going to go the way of the dodo. It makes you wonder what could have been with Konami, you know, if they actually gave a shit. I don't think there's anything Konami or anyone can do to really bring Silent Hill back as it was. SH 1-3 were a perfect storm. Most SH fans seem to not even like SH4, which was also made by Team Silent. PT felt nothing like Silent Hill to me despite how well recieved it was. The best SH not made by the original devs is Origins but that apes Silent Hill 1 so much that it doesn't feel like anything special
Bloodstained shows that Iga could still make great Castlevania games though and I liked Phantom Pain a lot but am not overly familiar with MGS before that (played but not finished 1 and finished 2 - was OK)
