I've done a lot of side missions but I agreed with myself not to get embroiled in the Sujimon or Dodonko stuff until after the game which is probably where all the time is. I was finding it too easy early on as I was severely over levelled due to doing every bit of side content I stumbled across. Like I say, the last 15-20 hours was just purely story focussed with the odd drink link or bucket list thing I was naturally passing.
By the end the main quests had just about caught up with my level so the last few chapters felt really nicely balanced in terms of challenge. I think if I'd have done much more on the side it would have been a bit too trivial.

Oh I can relate. I am finding the battles very easy also. It does seem detrimental to the main story progression to give you all these extra missions and content to do which results in you becoming massively over-leveled.
I think I may take a leaf out of your book and concentrate just on the main story. I cannot remember the original game having this issue?

If anything the last game had the opposite issue. There were a couple of pretty chunky difficulty spikes towards the end of the game you had to go out of your way to match up to even if you'd done your share of side stuff.
Hopefully the next game they can find the perfect difficulty balance as I think the battle system is first class.

Yeah I remember in the original game having to grind somewhat to get my characters up to level. No such issue in this game yet.

I remember in the last game having to completely level a few jobs as I had hit a roadblock and really needed some weakness exploiting skills. This time as soon as someone gets a job to about 12 they switch to another with an eventual stop at 16.

I remember that Peerless Resolve skill being basically mandatory for the last boss and most of the endgame. There was some serious bullshit in parts of the last game. Feel like they've almost been too safe at times with this one.
Or used it as incentive to try and sell a few shiny NG+ passes.

It is pretty easy so far, haven't een unlocked the job classes yet. But then is it any easier than any of the others in the series? Bar some explicit fights like Amon, everything on the main path is pretty smooth sailing. For a game that's over 70+hrs in main campaign alone I'm sure they want you to reach the end of it.

I got distracted by Dondoko when it unlocked, now so far in I have to debate finishing it vs continuing the story...

How do the Judgment games play, combat-wise? My only RGG experience to date was with the combat demo for Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and I bounced off it hard.
Some of that was on me - I'd gone in anticipating a fast-paced katana-swinging affair like Nioh, Sekiro, or Ghost of Tsushima, which was way off the mark - but even allowing for my misguided expectations, gameplay felt insanely stiff and clunky.
Everything I've read suggests that the Judgment games represent the pinnacle of RGG's action brawler combat to date; however, without having access to a PS5 demo, I can't try before I buy.
Any thoughts, you lovely lot?

You could argue they're the best of the brawlers. Yagami's fast and agile, not as heavily affected by the physics as the previous Dragon Engine Kiryu games. Running around, bouncing off walls into Heat moves is super fun and flows really smoothly.
Ishin is very stiff in comparison because it's based on the older engine; it works better in the mainline series.

Thanks, uiruki. How fast is Judgment's combat compared to that of, say, the Arkham series? (Those are the only beat 'em up/brawler games with which I have any first-hand experience!)

In terms of raw speed it’s about the same, maybe a bit faster in Lost Judgment. It’s more based on actual move lists rather than the more context sensitive nature of Arkham combat so it feels more direct, and you get to swap between styles to further mix things up.
The original RGG6 demo actually had very Arkham-like combat (and you see echoes of it in Kiryu’s Kiwami mode in 8) but they pulled back from that after negative feedback. As a result 6 and Kiwami 2 still feel quite spongy because they couldn’t get the balance right; it was only with the original Judgment that things got really fun again because it encourages you to do things like sprint towards enemies at full speed. Lost Judgment has a counter-heavy defensive style that’s loads of fun because you just trounce the enemy and then 'kill' them by making them tap out or faint.

Thanks again, uiruki. One last thing, then I promise to stop bombarding you with Yakuza-adjacent questions: how heavily does Judgment lean on the RPG side of things, compared to Ishin? From what I can tell, Ishin has a lot of RPG mechanics, especially when it comes to farming for materials and crafting better gear therewith. I'm a bit RPG'd out at the moment, though, especially with Dragon's Dogma II and Rise of the Ronin fast approaching - is Judgment more of a straight-up action affair, or is that wishful thinking on my part?

Not much, advancement and equipment are much more straightforward, more like a 'normal' open world game with picking stuff up off the floor and putting skill points earned through fights and ingame challenges into upgrades. Ishin's RPG stuff was at least partly intended to be played with the Vita companion app, which let you run through dungeons using your console save data, and there's no such thing here.

Finished Infinite wealth yesterday after a month and I think it was just long enough*
Finished the sujimon story but never went back to dondoko island after getting 3 stars. Might go back sometime and finish that but fuck the optional ng+ dlc

I finished the island to 5 stats as it basically throws you enough money to never have to worry about money again.
Still haven't finished but I get the impression im getting reasonably close.

This Reddit review of Ishin's ending made me smile - it seemed very Font Geek, somehow: https://www.reddit.com/r/yakuzagames/comments/15hxzbo/just_finished_ishin_and_that_ending_was_uh/

TV show coming in October then. Amazon treatment.
Quietly optimistic about this one. But if there's no episode dedicated to Dodonko Island I'm kicking right off.

On chapter 3 of Infinite wealth and so far its good, the Hawaii setting is nice change and looks great (always thought Yokohama setting was awful and ugly for a lot of the map)
So far the substories have been meh, give drinks to npc, look after some simp who is giving his money away. Nothing fun compared to past games

How's saving in those games. Can it be done anytime? You just save via the menu (edit: in the open world in Like a dragon - I should say)

Dungeons have save points and someb'story dungeons' (base invasions etc) but in the general open world you can save any time in the newer games (or at a telephone box in the older ones).

Near the end of chapter 4, it recommends level 13 and at least 2 star armour and weapons. Tomizawa had all 1 star armour but 2 star weapon in the end. So got to level 13 from 12 and upgraded the gear for Kiryu but nearly everyone was nearly level 14 when got to the dungeon
The laser bit was really bad game design as your character is heavy when you move and takes a moment for ichiban to start to move. its like the devs didn't understand your character's movement does not move fast when they designed this bit. You lose 30 HP everytime you get hit and possible to get hit multiple times. A minor annoyance, they better dump it for the next game.
The game came with all the codes from day one, so got some resources and 2 extra job classes. If sega keep going on this way the game will become like EA or how namco do some of their JRPG.

I played Infinite Wealth with zero DLC and didn't feel I was missing anything. The only Yakuza DLC I ever bought was Lost Judhment's season pass for the extra campaign (once it went on sale admittedly as I would have preferred the whole thing on disc).
