Game of thrones! I’ve never re watched this and did the first 3 episodes last night. Such a great show it’s an interesting watch when you know what is happening in a few series time. Recently finished this too. Previously binged seasons at a time as they came out on Blu Ray basically. It is better than you remember even up to the end, although the first 5 seasons are where it’s at. Genuinely think there was another internet hate train back in the day that is now the received wisdom about it. Yep there loose threads but it never stopped being enjoyable. It does make House of the Dragon look quite plain in comparison, mainly IMO because dragons are the least interesting supernatural element of it all

After trying and failing to get past season 2 a few times previously, I’ve finally managed to persevere and actually get properly stuck into The Walking Dead and am now in season 6.
I’m really enjoying it. Well, if that’s the correct expression considering how depressing and mopey it is most of the time.
Rambo Carol is the best Carol.

This American version of Have I Got News For You feels really off. Very stilted and like they’re actually trying to play the quiz rather than just using it as a platform for telling jokes.
I guess its because this kind of comedy panel show genre doesn’t really exist in the States in the same way that its inescapable over here.

You all weren't wrong about Colin from Accounts, fucking lovely show, we're only four episodes in but loving it.
(I love that the main two characters are married in real life)

Really enjoying experiencing it all again (save the awful bits...Mountain and the Viper was just as hard to watch second time round).

Watching some train thing on iPlayer, Night sleeper. Jist finished episode 2 and it's decent so far. Can't take the main women seriously as the head of the cyber attack team.

The clip they showed on googlebox looked like a parody of your typical low budget BBC drama.

About 10 years late or something, but I just watched the first episode of The Walking Dead season 7. Holy shit. I did not see that coming. Well, I guess I did if I really think about it, as old Glen was starting to feel like a bit of a spare part. But still…crikey. I did like how unceremonious it was though. Takes a lot to shock a cynical old twat like me too, but the way he went out was quite oof. Intrigued to see how or even if they try to give a complete psychopath some kind of nuance, but it certainly is a way to introduce a new antagonist.

That was when we turned it off. Couldn't deal with more unrelenting bleakness (and the rinse and repeat cycle it fell in to)

I think I lasted another series or so - I can handle bleak but it just started getting really naff. No idea how the series bowed out, but apparently Maggie and Negan got over it as they ended up in a spin off together.

Watched the 1st ep of The Penguin, its really good. Its more like Gotham: The sopranos (as its more rooted in realism than other versions of the penguin) No Batman, will need to read up on what happened in the last film as I don't he left gotham

Yeah, read a write up the other day. Looked good, like the more realistic approach.

Been watching a lot of Robot Wars recently on that digital channel that only shows Robot Wars on a loop.
First, the early series where they do obstacle courses have totally misunderstood the concept.
Second, Craig Charles is absolutely masterful during his era. Up there with Dominik Diamond and Richard O’Brian in being the perfect host for the show he’s on.
Third, the house robots are bullshit. You’ve got contenders doing solid competitive battle then some suped-up tank just crushes them because they got too close to the corner? Nah mate.
I do love seeing the teams though. I feel like this kind of folk had a real high point during the days of Time Team, this and Scrapheap Challenge and you don’t see honest enthusiasts on tv anymore.

First episode of David Mitchell’s Ludwig seems like a promising start. A sort of comedy-adjacent detective show where he’s an expert puzzle setter who ends up having to solve murders.
I suppose its potentially on a similar wavelength as Jonathan Creek or the Stephen Mangan version of Dirk Gently in that its neither fully comedy nor fully drama.

I’d like to rewatch some Robot Wars. I vaguely remembered there being a team from a girl’s school (“Team Femme Fatale”?) who were captained by their male teacher - and he took it way too seriously - storming out when they lost and such. It was pretty weird to watch.

There’s that digital channel that loops them or hundreds of episodes here. The enthusiastic amateurism of it all is very charming. Although you can probably just skip the Clarkson series at the start. youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgeJ6bGP6EDk-zt_1Sg-pAqYKOHwu6Esz&si=-MWrqQeydrrfAgALIncluding some international variants. It’d be neat to see some kind of revival but they’d probably give it to someone like Romesh Ranganathan who wouldn’t have the right level of enthusiasm. It’d need someone doing a job like Rab did for the Gamesmaster revival and being fully invested.

The issue, I guess, with Robot Wars was no matter how cool you made your robot look, it was always going to lose to the simple wedge shaped robot that could self-right and ping you out of the arena.

One of my local schools had a team that entered a few times - going to see if they’re in there too.

Controversially, I'm rewatching People Like Us, which is a 90s mockumentary focusing on the mundane professional lives of people in Britain. It did the Office before the Office did it. Controversial and never repeated because it stars Chris Langham... Appreciate many will stop reading now, and I'm sure some want nothing to do with his work, which is fair enough. Personally, I'm inclined to trust the judgement in his case, which essentially accepted his 'research' reasoning and said he wasn't a paedophile but found him guilty of downloading 15 images and sent him to prison because that's still illegal and he still deserved to go to prison. If you're interested, this interview is a good read. www.theguardian.com/film/2011/sep/25/chris-langham-interviewAnyway, I haven't seen it for almost 30 years so have forgotten almost all of the lines. Just watched the first episode and it is every bit as good as I remember. Without Langham's downfall, I think it'd be a cult classic. To give a flavour, the first episode follows Peter the boss of a small electronics company. Peter has to fire one of his loyal employees and this is the narration before he breaks the news: "Being cruel to be kind is never easy and since Peter isn't doing this to be kind, his task now of simply being cruel is even more challenging." You can find it here

My favourite line that's been seared into my brain all that time was
"Arriving at fifteen minutes past nine, David is just in time for being late."
The delivery is perfect.

Just watched the first episode of the new Brassic. Absolutely laugh out loud, tremendous stuff that feels like it’s gone a bit back its vintage best. I felt there was something a bit off with the last series or two (still got enjoyment from them).
