Had the clichéd lump on the knackers a few years back, fortunately got the all clear, unfortunately it was some old duffer doing the fondling rather than some nubile young thing Nubile young things are much less keen on fondling middle aged men's knackers than certain media outlets would have you believe.

Managed a 45 minute walk around the village today without pain or gunk oozing out of my foot. The longest in time and distance since my procedure just over a month ago.
Only been managing to average around 2000 steps a day according to my phone. I’ve done almost 7000 today. A relief to finally get some fresh air and wear shoes like proper person instead of shuffling about in sliders.

Traumatic injury (stamped on playing football) resulting in a dead nailbed which needed to be removed. Basically my big toe is mostly scab at the moment.

Traumatic injury (stamped on playing football) resulting in a dead nailbed which needed to be removed. Basically my big toe is mostly scab at the moment. Ha, I still have the scars from that too some 20 years later. Wasn't as bad but the nailbed is still fucked and discoloured all these years later. Also got a permanently bruised metatarsal from similar. Only consolation is that I was also a centre back, so standing on people's feet at corners was a given. Got to take the rough with the smooth and all that...

I’m going to be permanently nail-less with a hard skin scar in its place. Is that what you’ve got?
Its not too bad now the initial rawness has eased off, main job now is keeping it out of situations that’ll cause it to leak. If it wasn’t for covid setting us all up to work from home I’d have had a month+ on the sick. Gutted.

Feel free to discuss health journeys/procedures and man flu tales here Just had my first ever MRI Had my first MRI a few months back, also for back issues. Had herniated a disc between S5 and L3 that eventually, after causing excruciating sciatic pain that travelled from my right ass cheek down to me toes, over a progressive two weeks of increasing agony that left me crawling on my hands and knees on Xmas day. Had to have an injection, then loads of meds, then an epidural, then eventually got the MRI. American healthcare sucks. First epidural had to be paid out of pocket as I had no insurance at the time. It cost $500. Second one was covered by insurance. However, I was on the hook for half the anesthesia bill, owing that place $400. They can go fucking swivel /tosses bill into file system bin Anyway, the MRI was also shite. It was hot and I soon had sweat beads popping up on my forehead, then slowly drifting down the side of my face. All while the machine banged on like a simple techno loop made in Rebirth. I quickly woulda paid top dollar for a piece of small print newspaper stick on the inside of the tube so I could have something to read. Hell, even a list of the various parts of the machine, would have done. At least it all worked and didn’t have to be repeated. And about 3 and a half months since my back first blew, it was finally confirmed for the doctors that I was indeed in a bad shape It’s mostly better now, but still starts to hurt quickly if I’m doing floor work, (my previous method of employment) or, uh, sitting down for more than an hour. Which kind of images me fucked Put me out of commission for two thirds of a year. And the impact it has on your state of mind - pushing fifty, facing a future certain to contain more blowouts, not able to work or do anything physical without being in fear - is not to be sniffed at

2021 has been a very ‘medically active’ year, now I think about it. And seeing as I’ve nothing else I want to be doing right now:
Had a stress test in the summer. EKG hooked up, walk on a treadmill that steadily increases in speed and pitch. Tapped out not long after minimum time required.
Heart is in fantastic shape. Which means I’ve got a good un cuz, you know, smoking, drinking and doing far too many drugs over the last thirty years should not return results like that
Having my tits shaved with two very prominent rectangles right as summer kicked in was a bit of a PITA
I’ve a colonoscopy story which is a doozie as well

FFS just back from the doc as my pelvic area at the bottom of my back has been killing me today, it's just muscular apparently, whole area and back muscles are mega stiff. Getting old sucks and sitting on an office chair all day clearly not helping.

David Chang has a new series on Hulu about food habits and trends, and he has one on breakfast. He lays the absolute fuck into cereal and how absolutely awful it all is. It’s brilliant and reminded me of this thread.

Anyone else skip breakfast entirely? I just have 2 cups of coffee, and a cup of soup around 10:30. Stopped eating breakfast as a teenager because going to school was so stressful that I couldn’t manage eating anything.

Breakfast is optional for me, but I suspect skipping it makes me much more likely to have unhealthy snacks both before and after lunch

Though I could happily, I probably have about 4 breakfasts a year, almost the same with lunches albeit with odd lunches out with the family or if I'm doing some proper work or decorating or the like, been that way for decades now. Humans are foragers, biologically speaking and thus we don't need to eat three times a day.

If I don’t eat food in the morning I feel woozy and bent out of shape pretty soon Yeah, this is me. With the added bonus of a potential migraine on top. These days it's a slice of toast or 2 Weetabix mostly. It's probably something you can train your body out of, but I really don't want to try.

I remember someone telling me it's healthier to eat throughout the day when you're hungry and having set meals usually results in overeating. That being said, I like cereal but I've always considered it junk food

Breakfast doesn’t need to be much to keep the wobblies away; bagel, muffin, shredded wheat, Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowl if I’m wanting the combo of flavor and shaving time off my life

I've started eating alpen for breakfast lately, which is way more tasty than I thought it was all the years until now.

Alpen is the tastiest breakfast. Mostly because it’s 98% sugar. Sugar free Alpen is an abomination.

I am hoping it's mostly an assault on Lucky Charms et Al. Not sure we have anything that sugary, bar crunchy nut cornflakes. Which I have to never buy as it's too tempting.
