I was knocked out with gas when I was a kid to have teeth removed and it was a pretty horrible experience. Could smell the rubber for ages aferwards as well

Yeah, my wife had an endoscopy with gastro issues....was pressured by the local hospital to have it without sedation, in the understanding that if she couldn't cope, they'd sedate and try again. Except when it came to it, they refused and booted her out, whilst bigging up those who managed it. She chose a different hospital, was sedated, much more pleasant. Gastritis that she was on omeprazole for too but has now mostly passed. Stress is my guess.

Actually sitting waiting for an endoscopy now. Wanted to sedate me but I've no one to collect me and live alone so not an option. Had to do a PCR and isolate for the 3 days before and that's cost me over half a week's wages so I'm flipping back and forth between I hope I get the all clear and they better at least find something to justify the loss.

Other than the awkward conversation, my lasting endoscopy memory is watching the camera- interesting when it is inside (and a good distraction from the bits where they inflate your guts with puffs of air- yuk!) but holy hell I wish i hadn't had sight of it when it was making its entry. Was like my worst Sarlaac nightmares.

That's why I didn't take the sedation as I "enjoy" watching it, even the colonoscopy was interesting. Though being awake to hear them say "ooooooh" before cutting the polyps I could've done without but still fascinating to see.

Just had my first blood test in years and unexpectedly didn't faint like a massive fanny. I feel like a boss.

Imagine if we're still here in 10 years. We'll have to start an obituary thread.

*phew* Found a lump in my right moob a few months ago, finally got around to getting it checked properly. All clear, but after some doctor poking around, being sent for a mammogram, then for an ultrasound, then back to the original department so they could explain the results, I don't mind admitting I'd convinced myself that I was dying and was shitting myself.

Today is three weeks since my toe surgery. The wound has finally fully scabbed over so I don’t need to keep it bandaged up anymore. Planning on trialling walking out in shoes rather than sliders this afternoon. Hopefully I’ll be less housebound by the end of the week.
4–12 weeks recommended healing time is frustratingly vague.

So tomorrow I have some eye tests at the hospital, over the last two visits to Specsavers I didn't fair well in the visual field test, had to repeat them about 3 times, last time they referred me to hospital (about June 2020) and now finally I have a hospital appointment for some tests, apparently they're tests for glaucoma - joy.

So I have suspected glaucoma and have been prescribed eye drops, I say suspected the consultant seemed fairly sure and going by the size of my optic nerves at the back of my eyes it seemed pretty conclusive to me. Bigger is most definitely not better. Going back in a few months for a follow up to assess again and perhaps change the drops/dosage etc. Could be worse, plenty of other shit to get diagnosed with, hopefully they'll not deteriorate any further which I understand they generally don't with treatment. You can still play computer games with tunnel vision though right?

I had that years ago, no scans, they just stuck capilliary tube things straight in to get samples. Ouch.

Had the clichéd lump on the knackers a few years back, fortunately got the all clear, unfortunately it was some old duffer doing the fondling rather than some nubile young thing

Just make sure to be really diligent with taking them - really important that you don’t forget I use an app to remind me of the eight times a day I use the fuckers.

8 times a day? Jesus. I forget to take my one tablet a day a fair bit more than I should. Would definitely need an app.

jeepers Jeez 8 times? I'm only one a day so far, can't complain at that. Has your eyesight diminished in that period?

jeepers Jeez 8 times? I'm only one a day so far, can't complain at that. Has your eyesight diminished in that period? It has but I’m a little unfortunate as I have low pressure glaucoma. Already had four ops on my eyes to relieve the pressure but it’s not been as effective as hoped. If you’re on one dose of drops a day it may well be the case that your glaucoma isn’t as severe as mine. Just be sure to keep your appointments and take your drops. Most cases of glaucoma can be managed well by drops alone.

Ahh I see bummer that's not so good, he said mine was high pressure which seems a more common type, well at the moment I'm 'suspected glaucoma' which apparently is a thing, someone in the early stages with the various tests being in-conclusive so take preventative medication anyway.

Yeah, I'd be terrible at taking something that often. I only have to take 4 tablets a day currently, 2 in the morning, 2 at night and I can't even be arsed to do that so take them all in the evening assuming I remember.
LloydsDirect: We see you're getting low on medication, time to reorder. Me: That's what you think.

That sounds promising tbh (I’m not a Dr of course!); if they catch it early and you respond to the drops, the prognosis is good for retaining the vision. Good luck! One tip - when I was first prescribed the drops, they caused a fair bit of irritation. If that happens, you can request preservative-free which are gentler on your eyes. Need to be stored in the fridge mind.
