Good list, although the Clipse being there over someone like Mobb Deep is a surprise. 1. It Was Written 2. Ready to Die 3. 2001 Stuff like The Diary, E.1999 and Lauryn Hill are always in with a shout of getting up there. What's the link between Clipse and Mobb Deep?
I love Mobb Deep but, even though I've only listened to Hell Hath No Fury, apart from Ain't Cha and Trill, I'm not that bothered about it
Do you like Wu-Tang Clan by the way? I can't remember if you've mentioned them. I know you said you're not a fan of GZA

No link, just a rap duo and Clipse were influenced by Mobb Deep so surprised she enjoyed Clipse more. Pusha T on his own has better material than Clipse as a duo.
Must have me confused about Gza, I'm a massive Wu Tang fan. Individually and as a collective.

Might have been spooky then. I remember someone saying it was their unpopular opinion Everything related to Wu Tang is just so good

Wow. That is genuinely a great list, with something for every hip hop fan. Including several of my favourites from this year (Ka, Armand Hammer, Skyzoo, DTS and so on). Nice.

Wasn't feeling the 2021 list but they've got a 2010's list which seems decent
Kendrick Lamar, Freddie Gibbs and Killer Mike sound good so far (only listened to a couple of tracks)

Continuing my rap blog; Kanye is so hit and miss for me (mostly miss). Nearly falling asleep listening to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and then there'll be a pretty decent track Still think he's the weakest rapper I've heard by quite a way. There's parts that just sound plain bad to me but make it into the final cut anyway. It's weird Example of what I'm talking about
The "Forever ever, ever ever, ever ever..." bit sounds so weak

What is this shit?
My expectations were low but Jesus
Can't be arsed to link Lil Wayne but also Jesus. According to Wikipedia, one of the greatest rappers of all time

Listen to Mona Lisa by Lil Wayne Feat Kendrick. It's great.
He has his moments but overall I really dislike the majority of his stuff. Really can't stand any Drake stuff.

I thought that just a homage/callout to the Outkast line. Kanye is weird in that he's far from the greatest rapper, but he does often come up with some great lines/wordplay and so always entertaining to listen to. Particularly on MBDTF and Watch the Throne, his bars were pretty good imo. Lil Wayne, again not the greatest but I quite like his unique rasping style (though only through guest features, never actually listened to his albums). He's quite good on Tyler's latest, for example.

Kanye's songs depends on who he has ghost writing for him. When it's someone like Rhymefest or Lupe they're usually great songs because he was a very talented producer. Before he crawled up his own arse and died.

Ah, didn't realise he had the likes of Lupe ghostwriting for him, but that makes sense. Also Lupe needs a lot more love, his output can be very hit and miss but he's up there with the greats imo.

Lupe, Common, Consequence, Rhymefest, Pusha T. That's why I'm so conflicted on Kanye. I loved those early albums, but they were never really him.

I read that he put out an album where he sang on a lot of the tracks and used autotuning. Makes sense because his voice is really weak in my opinion. I'm not overly a fan of emo hip hop, which I'm assuming is also his fault one of his innovations
On the whole I definitely prefer what I've heard from the 90's so far overall
edit: Kanye's second album is the one I liked the most

Same as Dr Dre and people like Puff Daddy. None of them write their own stuff but it's definitely their vision on how it turns out.

Pusha T's Drake diss track is rather nice. I hope he wrote that one

It's normally only producers that use ghostwriters. Funnily enough Drake uses them, has a whole team of writers for his awful shite.

And for underrated rappers, give AZ a listen. Always shines on his features and Doe or Die is a great album.

Of everything I've listened to recently, Shabazz Palaces' Black Up, Apollo Brown and O.C. Trophies and Oddisee's Tangible Dream are real stand outs. Distant Relatives is a cool collab
DJ Drama can join Westside Gunn for ruining whatever they're on with their bollocks

I thought Gravel Pit was covered/sampled for the Flintstones film song that I remembered from back then but having seen the video, that actually was Wu-Tang. That was odd

Best track on The W is I Can't Go To Sleep. Ghostface, RZA and Isaac Hayes singing about poverty.

Best track on The W is I Can't Go To Sleep. Ghostface, RZA and Isaac Hayes singing about poverty. Hi spooky, you haven't posted in here for ages
I'm currently poking around the Wu Tang and associates discographies and there's so much to take in. I didn't even know Gravediggaz was RZA. So far listened to;
Enter The Wu-Tang
Wu-Tang Forever The W Wu-Tang: Iron Flag
Liquid Swords (GZA) The Pick, The Sickle And The Shovel (Gravediggaz)
Ironman, Supreme Clientele (Ghostface Killah) Tical (Method Man) Heavy Metal (Killah Priest) Only Built 4 Cuban Links (Raekwon)
So far, so good. They're like a genre unto themselves. Anyone got any recommendations/a list of the best stuff?
Re: The Wu, Careful (Click, Click) and Let My Niggas Live are really good too

You HAVE to listen to Only Built 4 Cuban Links. Yes!
Added it to the list. There's so much it's hard to keep track of
Also been listening around to Nas, Life Is Good is great. I know he's suppose to have a couple of bad albums but nothing yet
