U-God's Golden Arms Redemption is pretty shocking for a Wu Tang album. I don't know what the worst hip hop song I've heard is but I think it might be on this album. Could be Hungry. Yikes Hopefully Inspectah Deck is better Inspectah Deck is a beast of an MC. If you haven't already you should checkout Czarface (him, Estotric and 7L going absolutely HAM)

If that was your first listen of Illmatic, I'm almost jealous. Not entirely because the album never gets old and I've listened to it so many times, but it must've been a joy for that first time NY state of mind comes on with one of, if not the, best Premier beat ever.
I have to be honest, my 2Pac knowledge is really lacking, I'm not a huge fan of his but he does have some bangers. I was always a Biggie Stan though. His verses on Victory and Notorious Thugs always get me some tough bits of exercise to the point they get me gassed (the rocky theme tune also helps). I actually think his verse on Victory is a Nas dis but I could be wrong. "You hesitating, I'm in your mama crib waiting. Duck taping your fam, Destiny lays in my hand. Gat lays in my waist" Nas's daughter is called Destiny.
Edit: Whilst I have Nas on the brain. I really love his and Damien Marley's Distant Relatives album

2pac thought Nas was dissing him on The message so did what 2pac does and went after him. He openly dissed Nas on the Makaveli album.
They were then meant to meet in Las Vegas to patch things up but 2pac died. Nas writes about it on Death Row East from KD2.

I haven't heard Victory but I'm going to give the Diddy album (No Way Out) a listen later on. I avoided Diddy up to this point because Rum mentioned him cashing in on Biggie's death but also I've read he was responsible for a lot of the pop rap stuff
Czarface was indeed excellent anyway. Also listened to Masta Killa's No Said Date. I think I've covered most of the Wu Tang solo stuff now, although I didn't even know Czarface was a thing until it was mentioned here and didn't realise Gravediggaz were a RZA project until I read it in passing after I'd already listened to it so there's probably other projects!
Listened to GZA, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, ODB, Method Man, Gravediggaz, Killah Priest, Czarface, Redman (I think he's affiliated?), Cappadonna and U-God (boo)
Only one or two albums each (usually the first couple) but they all have at least one great album apart from U-God. What an incredible collection of talent
edit: I am going to go through the discogs for everyone, by covered I meant listened to something by every member!

I guess Redman is associated through all his work with Method Man (including a sitcom, weirdly). Redman also had by far the best MTV Cribs episode I've ever seen. Just his bummy assed condo in Newark with his friend passed out on the floor and loads of VHS porn tapes

Yeah Diddy did cash in and there is a lot that can be said about him... BUT Diddy as a producer. He's up there with Dre and Premier in my eyes.
Speaking of, the latest Gangstarr album was great. But I am a sucker for Preemo boom bap beats

I enjoyed that! Two of my current favourites - can't not like it.
S10 of Fire in the Spoof just started. Not sure how many of you follow them on YouTube but they've got a seriously talented team.
It was Pikachu today, he came through pretty hard. So many Nintendo game references. Love it.

And loads of Benny's stuff doesn't have him on it. Usually says he's featuring if he's on a track. Obviously the group stuff you'd have to avoid, but Griselda solo stuff you should be fine.

Re: Benny and Conway, it's not actually when WG features on a track that bothers me so much - I don't like his voice but it's fine, it's just his stupid brrrrrrrrrt fofofofo boom boom boom boom boom stuff. It seems to be present on anything even remotely related to Griselda as if he just has to put his mark on it like a dog with a lamp post. I was listening to a Rome Streetz album and it had all that shit
How do you feel about stuff like Run DMC?

What do people on here think of Aesop Rock? I've found occasionally he has an absolute banger track but a lot of his stuff sounds quite samey to me but it might just be my low-effort listening.
However I'm loving the new EP with Blockhead "The Recycling Bin". Think it's a bunch of remixes of older tracks, following on from their recent collaboration Garbology - which to me fell into the samey category.
Anyway, loving the EP. Here's a track.

I think he's a great MC, really deep and dense, but that can also make him quite inaccessible. I find the quality of his earlier work to be really patchy, despite being held up as some of the underground greats.
He's grown as an artist, though. His last few records - since he went to Rhymesayers - are great, though (Skelethon, the Impossible Kid, Spirit World Field Guide) and I really like Blockhead, so their collab is really up my street.

An old-school rap group that I love but never hear/read recognition of is Poor Righteous Teachers. Wise Intelligent is a brilliant MC. I guess it's because they were pretty political/religious. But that aside their albums are worth checking out.
