Hindsight being a wonderful thing and all that, I don't know why anyone would voluntarily go to Paris tbh. It's one of the most deeply unpleasant cities I've ever visited in just about every aspect.

I do wonder if the old reputation of English fans still exist in some European countries so areshole police/security don't give any benefit of the doubt and have an excuse to be pricks.

It's a gorgeous city in places but the traffic is atrocious, hospitality staff on a whole are as rude and ignorant as I've ever experienced anywhere, grifters fucking everywhere, armed police all over the place and loads of dodgy areas between the touristy spots I simply didn't feel comfortable walking through.
I'd love to pile on the Liverpool fans for this one but aside from the cunts who used the situation to their advantage to scale the gates and pull another Euro final, the actions of the Parisian authorities don't surprise me in the slightest.

Well, about a dozen of the arrondissements are completely stunning throughout so "in places" doesn't quite cover it and if you go to touristy places in any similar place (Venice, Rome, London, New York etc.) you have a good chance of rude service. Armed police is common in many European countries like Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany... Shame you didn't have a great time there but it's not the hellhole you're describing. |

My wife is French and she hates the place with a passion.
I didn't mind it but once you do the touristy stuff then yeah, it's a weird place. Incidentally given the choice of working in Paris or Prague tends to be when you decide to move to Spain instead.

Youβd think Boris could use the occasion to drum up some support from the anti EU crowd and also even some Liverpudlians by demanding an investigation into the mistreatment of the fans.
Though he would probably tear gas the same fans himself if he could.

And like Milan or London or Munich itβs less friendly than other cities in the same country. I prefer the likes of Bordeaux and Lyon but Paris is a beautiful and fascinating city |

I tried learning a bit of Greek when I went to Cyprus last year, to try seem less like an English dickhead in Cyprus. Quickly discovered that pretty much everyone working in hospitality there is Eastern European with a decent level of English and not a word of Greek. Turns out itβs about as useful as learning Welsh for a trip to Cardiff. |

Tbf, The Cypriots are pretty fluent in English or at least the ones near any military camps. Lived there as a kid and they'd only ever want to speak in English with us rather than teach us Greek.
Out of all the countries I've lived I the Dutch are the best at English. Better than most Brits.

Paris is among my favourite cities in the world to be a tourist. Beautiful and fascinating. But I think Iβd hate to live there. I lived there for 3 years and loved it, however I was in my 30s, now I'm a middle-aged old fart I would't be as keen. Lyon is awesome, like a mini-Paris but less intense and stressful + better weather. |
