I only know one proper Man City fan who has a season ticket and regularly goes. He gets free train travel, though, because he works on the rails.
The others don't bother. Say what you like about United but they've kept their core market. You'll never fill a stadium when its target audience is in the poorer parts of the city.
I'd say there's definitely a mixed feeling from their fans around the ownership/ direction of the club and plenty have said they're not bothered if the oil money goes.

I wonder what will happen with Newcastle when the plastics start to latch on since we could regularly fill St James Park even during the relegation battles and Championship runs. The locals would need turning off to make room and the stadium being the middle of the city will make that harder unless we price them out.

Disagree with this, plenty of clubs which don't aim for the prawn sandwich brigade who fill big stadiums such as Celtic and Newcastle.

Rephrase: when your target audience SHOULD be the poorer parts of the city. Don't whack a stadium on the edge of Gorton and not cater to them.

Didn't Man City get the freebie Commonwealth Games Stadium in a different area?

One of my friends who is a City fan, has not really been that fussed on the team ever since the Arabs took over. He much prefers watching teams who are in a struggle, and now goes to watch AFC Wimbledon whenever he gets the chance instead.

I tend to find the ones who are less fussed remember the old guard and part of the enjoyment WAS the struggle.
As for the stadium- yes. But losing Maine Road was the start of the decline and the stadium was part of the attraction for the Arabs. Although I didn't see Maine Road, there seems to be a lot of sadness that it's gone, much like at West Ham.
But I repeat my point - it's a club that has, historically, been for the poorer fans and parts of the city, that now doesn't cater to those people and has little interest in doing so.

How far from Maine Road is the new ground? The fan base traditionally would have been made up of those who lived nearby. That should still be the case, unless it was my over 10 miles away or whatever to a non-residential area.

As the crowd flies "not far", maybe a couple of miles but, for a city like Manchester, it's moving from the south centre of the city to the East. I'd say if you were driving it, it's a solid 15-20 minute drive. Public transport would be a ballache, as you've got to do a couple of buses and maybe a city centre change.

Real shame, just want be another cultureless "elite" club.

It is, by far, the worst stadium experience I've had. Yes, some others are a bit shit and crumbling, like Old Trafford and Goodison, but there's a bit of character.
Man City is an absolute library. The stadium is just poorly designed for football and it's very soulless. The outside of it, from what I've seen, is very "here's everything that's happened since 2010".
Sadly, Leicester is like that. Yes, the Thais have been amazing but there's absolutely nothing to suggest that the club existed before 2010. Fans have long been campaigning for statues/ murals/ recognition of years gone by. The Vichai statue is something of a bone of contention among fans.

Again, that's football these days though. Gone are the days of tightly packed grounds on top of the pitch, with houses all around, with the fanbase from nearby. It's a global game and clubs prefer day trippers who spend in the shops and bars in the ground once a year rather than rock up at 2 mins to KO and not go near the concessions.

Anyway, it'll be a bit different in Madrid and I cannot wait. The near misses from this game will haunt them and there's something inevitable about this Madrid team, especially Benzema. I hope they can do it though, and they should have a stronger side in the second leg. Could go either way.

No, Villarreal need to keep it tight like they did with Bayern, so am expecting Liverpool to have all the possession.

You can't see anything other than a Liverpool win. But Everton did a decent job for a long time at keeping them out, and they're shite.
So who knows.

Considering Villarreal have put to the sword (love a football cliché) Man U, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Juventus in the last year or two, I wouldn't write them off. Plus the Emery in Europe factor.

If you are wondering why there haven't been 8 goals in this one so far, it's because I decided to watch it. Sorry.

Pretty much as expected. Nuclear powered big bus. Working well for Villareal.
Was never going to be the back and forth like last night. Hope we can dig out a goal, two would be nice, and avoid a sucker punch.
