If that was the PL, they would still be looking at that.

They've deserved that.
Remember how Spanish football reacted when José's Inter team took a 1-0 lead to Camp Nou and parked the bus? "Anti-football", they called it. But when they do it - Atlei, or this Villareal side, it's "game management" and PL clubs need to "get over it".
Well, fuck em. Sucks to be you. Let's have a couple more.

That sounds far too bitter for someone who doesn't remotely support any of those teams.
Villareal do play very nice, tight defence and are generally nothing like a Mourinho team.
Liverpool are by far the better side, though.

Villareal, population 50,000, stadium capacity 23.000, playing Liverpool away and you expect something different ?

The game's about winning, after all... it's the hypocrisy mentioned and the whining from the fans and media that it's somehow different when they do it which is annoying.

Seemed pretty routine in the end, that. An away goal (rather, a goal in the return leg) for the Reds should seal it.

The Mourinho thing was years ago, so I don't have specific examples but there was a general opinion that they had somehow cheated everyone's favourite club. As for the other, have a look at the recent Spanish press, or fans on Reddit supporting Atlei's "dark arts" following their antics this season. Villareal aren't in the same league as that, but they got absolutely dominated by a much better team last night and they're lucky that it wasn't worse.

So you're lumping all of Spanish fans together over a period of years? Fans are dicks that will defend their club over anything, that's everywhere, nothing specific to Spain or anywhere else. Few football fans enjoy parking the bus but when the gulf in financial resources is so huge, you have to be realistic. Last night's game was rubbish but maybe Villarreal just wanted to keep the score down so that they still have a chance at home.

I'm telling you - anecdotally - what I have seen from a the fans of a variety of teams and heard from a number of people I spoke to over the years. Crying when it happened to Barca, support when it was done by another team in the Primera.
You keep talking about a gulf in resources, but Atleti have a 126m Euro player in their side and parked a 747 several times this season. Plus, they played like a bunch of cunts. You'll forgive me (or not, which) if I wasn't sorry to see them unceremoniously dumped out of the competition.
For years, the Spanish clubs have played this narrative of "poor little us, we can't compete" and then signed galatico signings on massive wages because they don't pay taxes, whilst trying to usher in the Super League to ensure their dominance can continue. My sympathies for them extend about as far as they do for any one else in professional football - not far.

+1. The smaller clubs used to get shat on with La Liga income (which I think has now changed) but Real, Barca, Atleti can get fucked.

Worst performance all season has come at a very bad time. If we go out I can see us having a much tougher game against Spurs for the headgame aspect.
Need a half time head wobble.
