Massive thanks to Frog for the Impenetrable Thorns spell, I wanted to fight him with all possible summons (it fits, too, all things considered) so the Bleed damage was gigantic! How many did you have for him? I can only summon one. Two, Ansbach and Thiollier. And Mimic obviously. Thiollier's questline is very obscure though, you basically have zero reason to go to the place where it happens The Fissure and then you have to follow some rather unintuitive steps like willingly imbibing St. Trina's nectar multiple times so she eventually speaks to you on the death screen

Didn't realise Ansbach was the other. I don't have him. Then again I wouldn't as I kind of helped Leda kill him. Which in hindsight - knowing that she turns into a bit of a bastard - I regret.

Ah, yeah, that'll do it too. Honestly, you might have drawn the short straw, I'm not sure how much the one you don't have did! Then again, he'll probably have less health with only one summon, so...

Also (unrelated to summon talk), in hindsight, I think we may owe Mohg an apology...

The boy is off school now so I keep expecting a text any minute saying “I did it!”. Annoyingly I know he’ll kill him first anyway. He’s better than me. Curse my old man reflexes. Trust me, I know how you feel...

What I will say about the final boss is that he's a better fight than Radagon / Elden Beast. He at least feels appropriately epic and, to be honest, I prefer this iteration of him. Rather than him riding around on a stupid little horse, he's a proper badass in this. (To your spoiler) Which makes sense, considering his main game fight was him having gone insane after who knows how many years of the Scarlet Rot eating away at him, whereas the DLC one was essentially Radahn Prime plus Miquella, a la Lorian and Lothric from DS3
Now imagine how terrifying a Malenia Prime in the same vein would be... Brrrr...

I’ve got him down to the ‘a’ of ..ella twice, but I can’t say I’m enjoying it, esp the wombo-combos.
I’m a couple of levels down on my scadutrees, so that might be next

Did anyone actually make it onto the right side of the map without a guide? I’m at the point end of my fucking rope with it.
Or have I fucked myself by trying to explore without progressing the “story”? (The last beat I hit was beating Mesmer and I’ve just been pissing around ever since)

Or do you mean the woods? That's the bit I mean anyway, to me that's like the center but I guess it's to the right of a lot of the map.

Dunno what the names are as I’ve been trying to avoid guides but the area to the right of the shadow keep and down about half way down the map. Above the (seemingly empty) finger ruins.
I also can’t get to the red bits on the cerulean coast.
The problem is that I’ve been dicking about for so long I’m absolutely steamrolling every area I can get to.

I’m not precious about the ‘no guides’ thing, I just always wondered what the main game was like from the jump when nothing about it was on the internet so I’ve been trying to play it blind.
The answer seems to be: a bit annoying

That should be the Abyssal Forest, yeah. And for the red bits of the Cerulean Coast you have to (tagged in case you don't want to know) do some creative pathfinding over the gigantic dead dragon near the Dragon Communion Altar in the Jagged Peak Area

And done. Fingerprint shield and Bloody Helice. Me and the boy co-opped him and made the fight a bit trivial. Froms hardest bosses seem to be best done that way. Nameless King and Gael both can’t do shit if you use the right greatshield and manage stamina. Bloody helice meant you can poke him from behind the shield and proc bleed.

Bit sad it's all over now. Every thing is dead.
Although I need a break. Kind of blitzed it.
Fucking loved the shit out of it to be honest. Which took me by surprise as I genuinely wasn't keen to get it. It's the map. Again, I know it's a bit divisive but I've never played something with a game area so massive and so hidden. It was a genuine puzzle getting anywhere and - as someone who loved the exploration part of Dark Souls first and foremost - for me, it was an absolute gift. So many stunning areas as well. Their engine is not as advanced as some but thanks to the art direction, it absolutely fucking soars. It just looks utterly amazing at every turn. It's a real thrill to emerge in any area, From once again showing other companies how it's done. Why icon bloat a map when you can just fill it with fucking wonder and just draw the player in completely.

Agreed. Just took down the last undefeated boss myself last night and have clocked in at around 45 hours. Brilliant stuff. My only disappointment is that I've been completely paralyzed by choice in trying out new weapons and builds, so ended up settling for a fairly boring but functional strength/shield build for most of it, which is entirely on me. Maybe NG+ or a new character might get me to switch things up a bit. Only on blessing level 17 so might hunt around for a few more seeds for a bit too.

And completed the final boss this morning. Thanks to peacemaker and wunty - I was getting nowhere with my trusty brass shield, so upgraded the Haligtree great shield (don’t have fingerprint, can’t handle the jumps) and tried Bloody Helice and got him second go. Pierce damage and lots of stable defence is the way to go. Suited my character as high Dex and Arcane, Talismans focused on defence too. All in all, I really enjoyed the DLC. Some really cool areas with Shadow Keep a stand out. The Catacombs a bit of a low; not keen on cannon head enemies & bullet spamming mages and they took ambush bullshit to a new level. So it goes I’m having a breather, and might take my main or my Strength character through at a lower level, but not yet Cheers all

loto awesome! Yeah I’m probably not a huge fan of the mages in the catacombs but I do enjoy the catacombs themselves. Probably because they take me back to the good old days of chalice dungeoning in bloodborne. Glad the bloody helice helped! That was the boys suggestion so he’ll be chuffed it worked for someone else (although he probably got it online somewhere…)

Yeah, cheers to your lad; the Bloody Helice worked a charm and wasn’t a weapon I’d tried before. I had used Mohg’s trident which is split pierce & fire damage. But that boss is very resistant to fire and the spear’s move set a good bit slower. Edit JonFE - I tried the thorns, but couldn’t get it to work consistently and the cast left me wide open. I’m only 9 Int, so it wasn’t for me but I could definitely see it working extremely well for the right character

Can confirm (not that you lot need my seal of approval) that the thorns spell Frog was praising the other day is indeed great; first attempt with that at Messmer and he is down. Not a clean fight I'll give you that, but a win nevertheless

Should also say thank you to all in here for the other tips though. Fingerprint shield worked a treat, and Duffking's general tips on avoiding certain attacks really worked. Particularly the running then jumping to avoid the meteors, as well as the spamming back and rolling to get away from the aftermath of the force pull move . Definitely helped keep me alive. I was going to try the thorns as well but there was a bit of grinding and re-speccing involved to make it viable and I couldn't be bothered!

I found my way through to at least part of the map I had missed before. I could have kicked myself for missing it the first 100 times I ran straight through it, especially since I recognised the other sinkhole immediately.

I can also help people on the last boss as it took me at least two hours to beat and then I’ve helped people for maybe four hours now so I feel like I know every move and pretty much never die when helping now. Turtle build for the win. Haven’t actually tried the thorns yet, I got them ages ago and saw loads of people using on the last boss to great affect.
