Yeah the key just seems to greatshield up and get hits in when you can. Had a couple of goes and got him to about a third so he’s doable. Just can’t handle a lot of his second phase shit right now. Will try him again tomorrow.

Just purchased this and fired it up. First time back in Elden Ring since I completed it a million years ago. I have NO idea what my build is all about, I must have geared it all towards beating the end boss cos I don’t remember what any of it is for! Just wandering around the world again is a joy, I should have come back long ago.

Folks, consider this your official "no shame in being dragged by the final boss" certificate (he beat it the next day, but still)

Think it is starting to click back into place. Killed the stupid Messmer Flame Guard invader tonight who was causing me grief before. Remembering how the game generally plays as well. A good five hours or so to dust off the cobwebs. Yeesh.

JuniorFE - i was ‘enjoying’ watching his attempts on YT. Bearing in mind how easily he could defeat Malenia; it’s a worry for this boss. Yikes etc

Anyone that is struggling, that new thorns spell absolutely ruins the last boss (and every other boss). Needs arcane build and I ran it with a greatshield as well because no way can I dodge all of that shit.

What's its full name? There are a few thorns spells, but they seem to be for faith builds.

Impenetrable thorns youtu.be/kpEWcbHMpEE?si=BROJyVYdumt5WVTXThere are a couple of bosses shown in the video if you are worried about seeing them for a few seconds. I used alberich armour with the white mask and fingerprint greatshield so it's a little different to the one in the video but same theme.

Said I was going to start progressing the main path of the DLC, but ended up switching my build up by following this - www.thegamer.com/elden-ring-best-faith-strength-build-guide-walkthrough/I was already basically there stats-wise, but I did do a respec to get the exact numbers, particular with my strength, which was a few points lower (my level was high enough to pump a bit more into my vigor and endurance). Then spent a couple of hours collecting the incantations and talismans. Seems ok, although not certain about the weapon yet. Feels a bit slower than my Great Stars. It also does a lot of the damage in holy. Not really calculated, but the pure physical damage of my heavy Great Stars seems to be about the same or maybe even a bit more than the physical plus holy damage of the Golden Halberd. Plus the Great Stars has the added bonus of bleed build up, which is pretty effective against a lot of enemies. Guess it depends on the enemy and what their resistances are. Pity I couldn't find any guides specific to the DLC. Seems faith has had quite a bit of love in it.

First chance to use it was against two Tree Sentinels and it destroyed them in seconds. Then I went back to Commander Gaius and while it wasn't plain sailing, second time, once Tiche was drawing the aggro the thorns destroyed him. I'm Faith 50, Arcane 19.

What I will say about the final boss is that he's a better fight than Radagon / Elden Beast. He at least feels appropriately epic and, to be honest, I prefer this iteration of him. Rather than him riding around on a stupid little horse, he's a proper badass in this.

I’ve got to the final boss too. I haven’t survived and I don’t know how I will. I’m going to explore peacemaker great shield option, but I don’t have the endurance so I’ll be fat rolling The route there was really annoying too, kind of redeemed a bit by seeing me cool NpC chats.

If you use mimic you get double thorns too Feline, just make sure he doesn't have access to other spells than thorns and golden vow and maybe the holy resistance too.

Pity I couldn't find any guides specific to the DLC. Seems faith has had quite a bit of love in it. The Golden Halberd is great because it has a really long reach. It's not perfect for everything though, it's worth having some other Str/Faith weapons as well such as Gargoyle Blackblade, Blasphemous Blade, etc. I got some good use from Marika's Hammer especially the L2 for a faster Str/Faith scaling weapon. Also consider farming a Fire Knight's Greatsword once you're in a certain dungeon. Also handy because a lot of Fai scaling weapons deal Holy Damage which many bosses resist, and others do Fire which others resist. So it's good to have both.

(What I think may be) The final dungeon is breathtaking I'm still on track to have all Scadutree/Revered, too, and I've done the sidequests that I think will let me have summons, so I probably have no excuse not to beat the final boss when I get there, greatshield strats or not... Found the thorn spell Frog mentioned too (not sure how I missed that, I'm sure I rinsed the area it was in), so I even have that in the back pocket if necessary!

Some tips for the end boss: When he does his rocks from the sky attack it's most consistently avoided by sprint+jumping to the side instead of rolling. I never once got hit jumping but it happened a few times rolling.
When in the second phase he'll follow that up with a shit load of attacks, you can block it all with enough stamina but you will take chip damage from the AoEs. You can avoid it mostly by just keeping sprinting in a sideways direction, but rolling on the 5th attack (count out each hit 1, 2, 3, 4, roll). He sometimes does that neutrally as well.
Assuming you don't get hit by the upswing of that rock attack, you've got enough time to chug a potion before you start sprinting to the side before he chucks those rocks. Basically it's a free heal window.
No idea how to consistently dodge the clone dash attack.
When he does the grab attack it's a free heal/attack window in the second phase, if you have a hugely damaging weapon art that takes long enough that he'll recover while you're still attacking I kinda recommend just trading the blow with him a lot of the time. But you can give yourself a bit more time if you dodge forward and diagonally as he'll have to turn before attacking you.
The best moments for getting damage in outside the grab are IMO:
- At the end of the 3 hit combo where he crosses the swords before the final hit. Roll forward through and hit. - He does a long combo starting with an overhead strike with his right arm, two sweeping strikes across his body left to right, then a big and quite delayed slam/sweep from right to left which is followed by an AoE. In the first phase you can roll the sweep and then deliberately block the AoE for a free guard counter. In the second phase, you'll want to wait a beat and then roll FORWARDS through the AoE to avoid getting hit, then get a hit in. - The move he normally opens with (the long range purple electricity slam) is super easy to punish, roll forward through it and get a hit or two in. - The jumping somersault is another obvious one. But watch to ensure he doesn't do a second and catch you in it.
When he does the gravity stomp/suck you in AoE, if you didn't manage to roll it to prevent getting pulled in, start sprinting away from him as soon as you can and roll back twice when he crosses the swords. You should avoid damage pretty consistently.
Oh, the huge AoE he often opens phase 2 with is avoidable if you run far enough away but good luck spotting it and reacting quickly enough. I suggest just blocking it. You easily have time for 2 flask chugs afterward anyway. I usually snuck in a boiled crab for extra damage resist during the windup and then healed and used a mana flask after.
Tempted to go in on NG+ at some point and do it shieldless. I'd have 15 more weight to play with for my defense...

I’ve noticed I’ve had to nanny the mimic tier more now. Don’t know if it’s changed or I’m only just seeing it but it seems a lot more likely now to A) use spells B) use spells that are absolutely fucking useless

The boy is off school now so I keep expecting a text any minute saying “I did it!”. Annoyingly I know he’ll kill him first anyway. He’s better than me. Curse my old man reflexes.

Yes, I was thinking similarly. Mine seems partial to crab meat, even when mein host is getting pummelled on stage left. The spirit ashes need a health buff for the DLC, they’re nowhere near where their HP needs to be.
Edit - I should have clarified. The Mimic’s health seems fine and it does a good job of damage/ distraction. I meant the other Spirit ashes. They don’t survive the DLC

Okay. So.
Doable. With the thorn spell and at capped Scadutree/Revered, but doable. Just have to learn him.

Not had too many issues with the mimic, although I have seen it a few times charge up to a boss and then cast a buff right in front of them. Mostly it does the job of being a distraction though and I'm often surprised at how much damage it is able to output.
Biggest change I feel in the DLC with my mimic, is that bosses seem to be much more ready to shift their agro from it to me. They do it constantly, even mid combo and sometimes when I haven't even attacked.

Tiche is apparently pretty good in most of the DLC bosses. Even where the mimic struggles.

Massive thanks to Frog for the Impenetrable Thorns spell, I wanted to fight him with all possible summons (it fits, too, all things considered) so the Bleed damage was gigantic!
