JuniorFE - you’re in for a real treat then; superb area. I keep on meaning to try the DLC spirit ashes, must give them a go. I’m a bit stuck on mimic tear and Blackflame Amon, as his spells can melt boss health.

Yeah. I can see how people can possibly bounce off it, perhaps wanting exploration more akin to the base game but this is absolute peak for me. I was curious how Miyazaki would do what he hinted at with his changing perceptions of the legacy areas and the open field areas but they've done it imo. I'll be gushing about this for a while. Enemies? Bosses? Sure, some bug the shit out me, but this map. This glorious map. This is it. Dammit. This is doing my head in. I *love* maps and decent levels but I fucking hate stupidly hard bosses. Bah.

There's bosses in here sure, and you'll eventually need to kill them, but there's been nothing standing in the way of me exploring the map.

Also, I'm still using this flail after going back to it. I'm remembering why it carried me through the base game in my first run - now with the Dancing Lion ash of war. That and the greatshield recommended by Duffking. It's literally easy mode. The flail does some horrific poise damage and can stagger enemies in one or two hits, particularly after the shield riposte thing. Everything ends up dead very quickly.

Yeah the map really is excellent. One area in particular has 2 routes through it that as far as I know almost never meet. My mind was blown when I found the other one. Really top notch stuff.

Shield riposte is crazy good in this game, never needed it in the base game but there are too many enemies with crazy poise now that countering them is the best option. I imagine parry is just as good but fuck that 😂

Do it, Quaddy. I'm absolutely loving it - the map, the atmosphere, the dungeons, the bosses - all of it (so far) is pretty much exactly what I wanted from an expansion. I did find some of the enemies a bit of a grind at first, but within a couple of hours I'd found enough Scadutree Blessings to balance things out. If you enjoyed the base game you absolutely owe it to yourself to give the DLC a pop

Which greatshield wunty ? My daughters character uses the Haligtree great shield, which is fantastic, but just a bit heavy… I really love the stability though; especially against the spinner twats

Took me more tries to run past them to grab an Ash of War than most bosses in this place so far!

I use the fingerprint shield, it can eat hits endlessly. Afaik it's the best greatshield defensively.

Spent about an hour helping people on the final boss. A lot of people here! Every time it takes about 1 second to get summoned. So many sad near misses for some people where the boss is so close the death!

I imagine parry is just as good but fuck that 😂 I moved to a shield build with Morgott's Cursed sword and yeah parrying and guard counters have helped me massively. It's also helped me identify how many bullshit enemies there are with what appears to be bottomless poise.

I'm a fan of the Manor Towershield or Dragon Towershield (depending on which resistances you need to prioritise). Not *too* heavy, decent stability and they look pretty cool.
I remove their ashes of war so I can use my weapon skill one handed from behind the shield.
Parry shield of choice is a Brass Shield with Carian Retaliation. Best resistances for a medium shield and the skill gives you the parry timing if a buckler (plus you can parry spells).

Farmable from the knight just outside the Black Knife Catacombs in Liurnia (halfway up on the east side).

They are all pants vs verdigris shield with 83 guard boost before lvl up. (Get it near the end of the dlc depending on choices made). It’s basically havels shield with high protection against all attack types.

I met my first armoured furnace golem last night, but I knew the drill. I'm galloping round the area, looking for high ground to lob my pots. Couple of likely spots, I climb up onto a cliff and look out...ohh there's a spirit spring, that'll be the one.
Wait a minute! Where did the golem go? That's weird, I wouldn't have thought a field boss would despawn like that...
Turn round and the fucker is climbing up behind me. 80 foot tall burning iron man completely ninja-ed me.

I've not been able to even dent these big flaming basket pricks yet. The fact that I actually had to ignite one to get him to come alive and move out my way at one point was just stupidly cruel. Particularly when his brother woke up behind me.

Either I went north too early, the blessings buff was bigger than it looked, or the south is way, wayyyy easier lol. Oneshotting basically every boss attempt atm.

I owe you a beer. Spear and greatshield is S tier op. Blows my mind I never knew this after all these years and countless hours. Done so many strength, dex, int and faith builds but never ever used spears.

Had to look up how to find that last map fragment, I would never have found it otherwise.
Also that last boss eh. Fuck that I will come back when I have a few more fragments 😂

I should get this, but I'm a bit scared. The only character I've got at an appropriate level is my double whip character, and I'm pretty sure he's going to get... whipped... in the DLC.
Maybe I should try to get the double greathammer character up to a decent level, so far I've had a much easier time with her.

Particularly when his brother woke up behind me. The stone things that slosh flaming hot magma about? They have a jewelled butthole you need to circle around to hit for massive damage . Turns out the have the lowest rune to pain in the arse ratio in the entire game so I just avoided them even after I worked out 'the trick'
