Me? It’s hard to say. Campaign wise, probably not very. Ive just hit the specimen room in the shadow keep. I’ve done a *lot* of fannying about, though. Killed a few dragons, explored a few dungeons.
I’m 9/9 in tree fragments, I think.

Oh, now that you mention it, the boss I'm talking about above gives you an improved version of ye olde Hoarfrost Stomp as one of its Remembrance rewards! Yup. Using it with the wunty flail in fact.

I'm about the same place as Bongo (likely almost finished the Specimen Room - and actually second time here, as I came through the back way into Shadow Keep first) and agree that I don't think it is any harder than other DLC From have done. Maybe there are just a lot of new players given the popularity of Elden Ring, but it is pretty much what I expect. If anything, the overworld is a bit easier.
A few people have probably not appreciated the importance of the Scadutree fragments as well.
I have also just accepted the fact that I will probably need to use the Mimic against bosses, so don't really bother trying them without. Not really been stuck on any for ages, although there have been a couple that I've tried a few times and then decided to save them for another time.

There is worse coming Jambo! Fair play Nick, I've only ever used spears from behind a shield as you can poke whilst being fully protected. Oh believe me I met it. Just had a fight with some very uneven odds. Took me about 7 goes, I honestly don't know how you would do that alone.

How do people tend to explore the open areas? Methodically or just randomly anywhere that looks like it might be interesting? I do find that aspect of the game the most daunting
I think you can use any thrusting weapons from behind shields; rapiers, estoc, spears
Just discovered Commander O'Neil- that boss is going to be horrible with the adds. The red sky with yellow trees looks lovely though

I do find that aspect of the game the most daunting Map fragments first, then scan the map, mark a couple places that look interesting (buildings, caves etc), proceed to get sidetracked by half a dozen things on the way to my markers

Lost a couple of hours of progression from last night's session (stupid PS sync issue) really didn't fancy redoing that part of the map again, so went a different way and found another route and got to the Cerulean Coast. Found another mausoleum and boss, a nimble sort who handed me my arse on the first attempt. Second attempt I used Wave of Gold and it stunlocked her so I have to admit I cheesed it and spammed that move until she went down.
Got a very nice sword with a weapon art called Unending Dance...you become a whirling spinning top of death, so great for vengeance on all the spinning bastards on this map.

The way I look at it, enemies in this game are quite happy to spam their bullshit and stun lock you, so don't feel bad for doing the same thing to them!
I haven't found another mausoleum boss since that first guy right near the starting point, I keep expecting to find one whenever I see those glowing worm things, but there never seems to be one.

I start off methodical, but then there is a tunnel that leads to another area and before I know it I am 2 zones away from where I am supposed to be.

The church of the bud is absolutely stunning. One of their best looking creations with the light shining down.

I tend to do a more extreme version of what I do in most games. Pick a point on the map in the opposite direction to the one the game wants me to go in and go in it. There’s usually a little group of buildings or something on the map showing a POI so I wander over to have a look.
It’s one of the reasons I’m not far along the critical path. You just find dungeons all over the place.

The map is nuts. I know I keep saying this but it’s dark souls deviousness on a grand scale. Just founds access to a new area with tons more to do by bashing an illusionary wall in one of the main dungeons. Ridiculous. New mausoleum, catacomb and shit loads more.

That patch has made a big difference; I bet they bloody nerf it again.
Got a shiny new katana and upgraded it. Did a bit of messing around with other weapons then back into shadow keep where I swapped back to the katana. Enemies there took 6/7 hits, which I thought was strange - turns out I’d equipped an unupgraded Rivers of Blood. D’oh!
Shadow Keep the s just a fantastic area. Every time I think I’ve explored it all, I find new doors/ lifts/shortcuts - just brilliant. I’ve found a ‘does not open this side’ door near Main plaza, but not a clue what is behind it.

Thinking about the earlier collection of flowers question, the glovewarts are quite important as they upgrade your summons.

I love how open this DLC (and the base game, come to think of it) is. So far, I've beat three main bosses, Rellana, the Hippo and the Lion, yet I stumbled right into the cover art boss, who promptly handed my arse on a platter several times. Since he feels like an end-game boss, I'm probably not ready to face him, not to mention I still have two huge areas undiscovered on my map, so roughly I'm just 50% (lousy maths I know) into the game and that's nowhere near the end now, is it?!?

Last night, I found little Yoda , but haven't tested any of the new ones...

Had to use YouTube to find how to get to the n.e part of the map. Not sure I would ever have reached it without it. I haven’t come across a summon ash upgrade thing for what feels like ever now.

If you're running a bleed build, the bloodfiend ash seems good. He casts blood spells and can tank a lot of hits. I ran him for a while but fell back to the mimic tear when I started trying other weapons.

So far I've got a few. A twinblade black knight chap, the twin disc jumping skinny omen cunts, the bloodfiend and a couple others. Just found the manfly one. Levelled up skinny jumping omen twat but not used him as realised I didn't have enough FP to summon him!
Still missing one map fragment. No idea how to get there but still got a shit load of nooks and crannies I've not been to yet.

The bloodfiend requires health which I have quite a lot of, which is also why I lean on the mimic tear. I don't tend to have a lot of magic to spare.

I'll maybe give the bloodfiend a go next then. I do like a bit of bleed. In fact. I'm all about the bleed.

Whoever though that an enemy during a multi boss fight should have a 1-shot ability should be tied down to a chair and made to listen to the star trekking song on loop for 24 hours whilst have their toes tickled.
Felt like luck more than anything when I did it!

So far I've done Belurat and Castle Ensis , is it one of those two? (And yes, that does mean that Rellana got fed knuckle sandwiches and dropkicks for dinner. Damn her swords and armour are cool!)

Shadow Keep or whatever it’s called. Barely scratched the surface of it and I’m off somewhere else now Ah. Haven't gone there yet. Ostensibly it should be my next destination, but I have two other big areas I've barely even touched and possibly a third down south if I can find the way there, so

Well, going by where I've discovered via an illusionary wall from it, I'm not going back for a while. Far too much to explore down here now.
This is, in all honesty, becoming my favourite map / world in all their games. It just begs to be explored, every nook and cranny.

Agreed. I wasn't too fussed on the open world nature of Elden Ring. It had its moments, such as stumbling upon a lift that just keeps going down, and down, and down, but mostly I preferred the tighter structure of their previous games.
This DLC justifies the move for me though. It is really stunning how they have managed to integrate the two styles, both within the dungeons and the world map itself.
If they decide to do open world again, I hope they do 3 or so maps this size. They can just be connected in a gamey-way, like the arch stones in Demons' Souls or just linearly connected in some way.

Yeah. I can see how people can possibly bounce off it, perhaps wanting exploration more akin to the base game but this is absolute peak for me. I was curious how Miyazaki would do what he hinted at with his changing perceptions of the legacy areas and the open field areas but they've done it imo. I'll be gushing about this for a while. Enemies? Bosses? Sure, some bug the shit out me, but this map. This glorious map. This is it.
