Appreciate I'm 2 years late and everyone has now moved on but back in OG ER I finally beat that fucking pladiciux dragon or whatever his name is. I think that's everything! With the exception of getting the various multiple ending trophies!
I will take a break before diving into the DLC as I have boss-fatigue - enjoy!

I would say ultimately it's up to them. They might be concerned that a series of games that is famous for being difficult might 'tarnish' (sorry) its brand by toning things down. What you gain in more casual players you might lose in the dedicated fanbase. Gamers can be a fickle lot. Hard games exist outside of From and Soulslikes. The fact that From games are so successful is what really makes them the target for this discussion, but then they must be doing something right otherwise... You don't fool me, you are not sorry, that pun was totally intended
EDIT: Your post to Aunt Alison shows I'm right
As for difficulty settings, Rise of the Ronin has some, but I'm not sure people love it more than the Nioh games (or Wo Long for that matter) because of them...

Being able to summon other players completely undermines his point. Makes no sense You still need to find someone actually competent and/or be decent enough not to die yourself in the process, it's far from an instant "I win" button... And, unlike a difficulty slider, it enhances the feeling of cooperation they wanted to have there since the start, players helping each other whether it's through the wiki, forums, in-game messages etc. That's reasonable but I've never played a souls game online, or used any community stuff and still really enjoyed them all. So it is not integral to the experience. People play the games and enjoy them in different ways. Why not a less punishing one?
No one is trying to take your game away from you or change your experience. It's about allowing people to enjoy all the other things you love about their games who aren't great at the combat. You need to look at it from the perspective of someone who likes everything they see and hear about their games, see everyone hyped for them, but can't get into them because of the combat. I have no problem with those people getting to enjoy the games and the things I listed in a previous post are ways they could add an easier difficulty without rebalancing the game

Two bosses and a dragon down, not bad for a couple of hours play. My initial worry about difficulty has been alleviated, for now.

I will leave the difficult debate now, not because I have been defeated, but because I am nice and do not wish to sour anyone's release day hype It was Jambo/Eurogamer's fault anyway Have fun!

Met my first boss. Fucking ow. If it’s your first cut scene main boss that I came across I fully agree! It never stops attacking when lower health! Who knows though, maybe you’ve gone a different way to me. Is it the one where just before the boss gate was a staircase and just before rhat spiral stairs? Don’t want to get too specific Nah, I suspect I'm on the opposite side of the map. Had a lift immediately before mine. Pretty relentless from Phase 1 as well.

Nice. Different boss then! Mine was the obvious main one in all the trailers. Was also nails but I had mimic and a summon for the w.

Might head over there instead, this one is getting on my nerves a bit. Phase 2 has some real gotchas

Ok it's release day, let's not have this conversation again. Make an Elden Ring difficulty thread or something. 50 vigor is feeling like it might be low this time round. Either that or I need better armour. Dude I'm 66 for vigor and in the 20 or so minutes I've been hit hard. I have excellent armour too.

I'm dodging the big spinny poise guys at the moment, they absolutely rinse me in seconds.
Progress ok so far, seem to have done loads without hitting a boss yet (other than usual wandering one).

Erm, I think Dancing Lion might be my least favourite souls boss ever already. Awful camera, nonsensical hit boxes, and almost no windows to attack from the start and only gets worse as the fight goes on.

Seriosuly, as soon as the elemental stuff starts it's like "no no no, only I get to attack. Fuck you". Then you accidentally walk within 20 meters of a wall and get instakilled because you can't see anything.

Been going for ages now, run out of flasks and not found a bonfire. Not sure I'm getting to one either as I am at 50 percent health.
Pray for me.
Edit: Oh bollocks I found a boss door instead.

First castle boss spoilers (the one northwest of the starting area) I agree the Lion Dancer is awful. I mean, seeing it in the trailer immediately made clear it would be a shit boss, but somehow it turned out even worse because not only the design is shit but it's also a broken mess. I'm not sure I'll talk bad about Tree Spirits again because now we've reached Demon Centipede levels of failed boss design. Hell, there actually is a Tree Spirit in a poison swamp nearby and somehow that's a better fight.
It's incredible. How is this made by the same people who made bosses like Radagon?

Probably shouldn't bother engaging with the debate, as it really is quite tedious, but I think you kind of say it yourself. You can adjust the difficulty yourself, through the items and builds you choose to use. But, every Soulsborne release needs to be accompanied by the debate over an "easy" mode, asking for the most boring implementation of difficulty you can possibly have that just adjusts how hard an enemy hits or how much damage they do by some simple percentage amount. Personally, I think the way From handle difficulty is far more interesting and feeds into the sense of discovery and self expression that I love from their games. The only reason I can see to adding an easy mode is just because every other game handles difficulty in a mundane way. They could probably improve their signposting on some of the available options (such as class selection saying things like "this class will have an easier start, this class will be weak initially but powerful in late game", etc), but I'm fine with them not boiling difficulty down to just an option in a menu. Now, I think there is an argument for accessibility, but I personally see that as different from an actual easy option. To be clear though, if they released their next Soulsborne game with a difficulty, I wouldn't really care that much. The difference is in order to do those things, you need to be in the know and find certain weapons/items in the game in the first place. That doesn't help people who find the game difficult from the start or in general, or who want to play casually. So it's OK for proper fans to make it easier, but not people who might otherwise not play the games because the combat is too intimidating/punishing
It doesn't even have to affect the balancing of enemies. Just increase the level scaling- you gain more souls on lower difficulties, require less to gain a level. Only lose a percent of souls on death or none at all. Have a starting class with increased stats, lower equipment/load requirements. This would make no difference whatsoever to anyone not choosing the lower difficulty options
That sounds like a really good idea to me

I think the boss we are all talking about is probably the first boss a lot of players will fight and from do like to have the first boss as a bit of a fuck you, you think this is easy!?
That’s the one I said where I had a random Npc summon at the door for some reason and I used my mimic and they did all the work in the second part. I mostly spammed dodge thinking how I hoped they killed it first try as I’m not seeing any attack windows here. In fact for ages neither summon could get an attack in on it because it has such a relentless hard on for me they couldn’t get to him.

I had the summon and mimic as well, thought it went pretty well tbh. A couple of hairy moments but overall quite doable.

I know it’s optional but it does remove that excitement of when you finally beat a boss. It’s there though and it stops any rage issues and allows me to carry on exploring. So far there just isn’t that sense of dread that I normally have because I know I have a mimic in my back pocket.
