Some amazing vistas just south from the starting area. Presumably areas you can get to later. Miyazaki was having a laugh when he said this DLC was about the same size as Limgrave. It's massive.

Yeah it has the usual amazing vistas, been taking a few screen shots here and there.
I’m done for the day, the weather is too good so I’m feeling guilty. Turned it off after being lvl 3 in attack power and lvl 4 in horse and summon power.

That's the trouble. Lovely weather forecast over the next week or so, which means I'll play this far less than I would otherwise. Saying that, I don't seem to have the attention span for games above an hour at a time any more, so I'll be curious to know if this will be able to keep me playing for a longer session.

Imo, demons and dark were about right, maybe bloodborne too. Rest went shit. But theyre the type of game that you cant really chagr the difficulty - mp wouldn't work for example. Or at the very least, itd be complicated as fuck to implement surely In fact, do we need any more souls games tbh?

The difficulty debate is always bizarre to me. You can make the games easier by overleveling, there are always OP builds and weapons, you can summon other players to beat bosses for you and it's considered part of the game to discuss everything online and use wikis. All of those things are already in the game and make it easier, even to the point of removing the challenge completely (and people love those features) Yet the inclusion of an actual easy mode offends people and clearly difficulty isn't integral to the experience or they wouldn't include all that stuff in the first place. Also, the difficulty of the games is way over sold and always has been
If difficulty is so important, why is the difficulty curve in their games all over the place. Some bosses are really difficult and annoying, others are a push over. They aren't that well balanced- see the constant changes they keep making to ER. When was the game the 'intended experience/difficulty'? Before or after the rebalancing

Just realised I deleted my save file before I transfered to ps5. Don't have the conviction to do another run to play this. Very frustrating. Got ps plus? Check is there is a cloud save you could pull down?

Got him! Okay, it's a relief to have my first DLC boss down - and he wasn't that difficult.
Now only another 97 to go, or whatever it is.

Probably shouldn't bother engaging with the debate, as it really is quite tedious, but I think you kind of say it yourself. You can adjust the difficulty yourself, through the items and builds you choose to use. But, every Soulsborne release needs to be accompanied by the debate over an "easy" mode, asking for the most boring implementation of difficulty you can possibly have that just adjusts how hard an enemy hits or how much damage they do by some simple percentage amount. Personally, I think the way From handle difficulty is far more interesting and feeds into the sense of discovery and self expression that I love from their games. The only reason I can see to adding an easy mode is just because every other game handles difficulty in a mundane way. They could probably improve their signposting on some of the available options (such as class selection saying things like "this class will have an easier start, this class will be weak initially but powerful in late game", etc), but I'm fine with them not boiling difficulty down to just an option in a menu. Now, I think there is an argument for accessibility, but I personally see that as different from an actual easy option. To be clear though, if they released their next Soulsborne game with a difficulty, I wouldn't really care that much.

The Malania katanas ash of war has helped so much so far. Most areas I’ve found have multiple enemies coming at you most of the time so it’s special move has removed that possible difficulty spike. Highly recommended for fellow katana users.

My thoughts on the subject come down to this: there are hundreds of games released constantly that do offer difficulty options, that do cater for any demographic. Only a handful soulslike games are currently notorious for their difficulty and among them From games are royalty. Yet we, the gaming public, demand all games to be for all people, as if we cannot have these few games standing out like sore thumbs, why? As a kid ,I always envied people in the arcades mastering Street Fighter 2 or Ghost and Goblins, but I never put in the time and patience (and coins, lest we forget) necessary to be like them, so why would I complain? Also, as AuntAlison says, there are ways to overcome such difficulty spikes, either by farming/over-levelling or playing around the various game systems (only Sekiro is brutally difficult in that regard and even that leaves a window for farming/prosthetic arm use), so where's the harm? Leave them be, I say!
Edit: I should probably say that the above does not cover any accessibility options that should be considered for the less fortunate gamers among us. For example, having a reaction time slider that would affect the enemies' reaction times so that the player can easier respond wouldn't bother me personally.

Now, I think there is an argument for accessibility, but I personally see that as different from an actual easy option. To be clear though, if they released their next Soulsborne game with a difficulty, I wouldn't really care that much. The difference is in order to do those things, you need to be in the know and find certain weapons/items in the game in the first place. That doesn't help people who find the game difficult from the start or in general, or who want to play casually. So it's OK for proper fans to make it easier, but not people who might otherwise not play the games because the combat is too intimidating/punishing
It doesn't even have to affect the balancing of enemies. Just increase the level scaling- you gain more souls on lower difficulties, require less to gain a level. Only lose a percent of souls on death or none at all. Have a starting class with increased stats, lower equipment/load requirements. This would make no difference whatsoever to anyone not choosing the lower difficulty options

Leave them be, I say! Street Fighter 6 added a new, easier control method and people loved it. I believe even some pros use it now
The difficulty argument would work better if From's games were balanced in the first place. Are certain bosses intended to be stupidly easy or difficult? The difficulty is up and down all over the place. If the original vision for the difficulty was so strong, why all the rebalancing in patches?
It seems like it's OK to make it easier if From decide to do it but if people ask for it, then it's not respecting the vision
There's more to their games than the combat - there's the exploration, atmosphere, lore, visual design and everything else people love about the games. It's a shame people can't enjoy that stuff if they don't want to spend all the time to learn the combat

Jesus you are a broken fucking record. Can we agree to disagree and move on? The broken record comment works both ways. You still chose to post your opinion and Jambo asked if anyone had any thoughts, so chill out a bit. It's just a game
I addressed your point. You threw a tantrum
If you don't want to discuss it, don't. Don't make a post and then complain if people respond to it

Met my first boss. Fucking ow. If it’s your first cut scene main boss that I came across I fully agree! It never stops attacking when lower health! Who knows though, maybe you’ve gone a different way to me. Is it the one where just before the boss gate was a staircase and just before rhat spiral stairs? Don’t want to get too specific

Exactly like I explained last time we had this discussion. Being able to summon other players completely undermines his point. Makes no sense You still need to find someone actually competent and/or be decent enough not to die yourself in the process, it's far from an instant "I win" button... And, unlike a difficulty slider, it enhances the feeling of cooperation they wanted to have there since the start, players helping each other whether it's through the wiki, forums, in-game messages etc. Ultimately there's no real point in us having this discussion again because the end result will be the same: a difficulty setting is not the way they want to let you make the game easier for yourself, all these other methods are. It's like going to an Italian restaurant and complaining that they specialise in pizzas but don't offer many pasta options. "But they're an Italian place, they should have both-" Well they don't, and that's their choice.

I would say ultimately it's up to them. They might be concerned that a series of games that is famous for being difficult might 'tarnish' (sorry) its brand by toning things down. What you gain in more casual players you might lose in the dedicated fanbase. Gamers can be a fickle lot.
Hard games exist outside of From and Soulslikes. The fact that From games are so successful is what really makes them the target for this discussion, but then they must be doing something right otherwise...

It is their choice but I don't agree with their reasoning for not being able to include one. I'm not saying they have a duty to include one. It doesn't affect me- I have played and beaten all their games. I'd never use an easy difficulty. The summoning mechanic is there to help people beat something if they're finding it too difficult, to make it easier It's a debate, a discussion. But people are far too defensive and precious about it

For me the mimics are way too good to not use. I don’t have the self discipline to not use them now. I really summon people which is a shame as that used to make it more of a joint effort beating a boss. Now a mimic just joins in with what seems like a million hp.

Ok it's release day, let's not have this conversation again. Make an Elden Ring difficulty thread or something.
50 vigor is feeling like it might be low this time round. Either that or I need better armour.
