Ok but separately, most journalists have made it clear that Elden Ring is a return to the Dark Souls gameplay. Just in relation to the ‘backwards from Sekiro’ comment.

Turned it off after maybe 90 minutes. Fought three bosses. One in a cave, one everyone probably fights straight away and one most people have seen in preview videos. So disappointed. It's basically dark souls. Bloodborne and sekiro showed how from software can create new i.p. that while keeping with the formula make the combat totally fresh and feel new. This is dark souls, in a map that makes you be able to go around more freely but has none of the interest of botw. Each boss I did the same old boring strategy. Hold shield up, walk left or right until boss misses it's attack or I block then hit back once or twice depending on the window of opportunity. One boss had a better second phase but that just ment a little bit of dark souls rolling to beat.

Did not make a dent on the dragon, so left it to it. Found a dungeon with another boss I'd not seen, and then made it to the "end" of the fortress (as far as the test let you anyway). One proper shit me up moment in that section too. Quite a few challenging bits throughout the map, found some new areas, still couldn't work out some thing (lights on the beach for example) and still got twatted a lot.
Really loved it. Think I'm going to be putting a lot of time into this come February (and beyond).

Well..I just did another three hours and I bloody love it. So there!
It really is just Dark Souls + greater freedom to explore + shit loads of quality of life options including essentially various easy modes (e.g. summoning wolves, that truly op homing soulmass weapon art).

I didn't beat the end boss (I assume he is) before they unplugged the server - he's more of a challenge...still, I got him down to a third of his health. I haven't tried the horseback dude or dragon. The dungeon bosses though become pretty easy if you have a decent summon e.g. the wolves and use something like the Glintsword Arch (that's the homing soulmass thing) and Carian Piercer...but this relies on you being an intelligence build, I guess (I've been playing as the Enchanted Knight). You can take huge chunks off their health while the wolves distract them. |
